I was at the show...didn't get into the pit, but was on the rail behind the pit. They were very strict with the no cameras policy, and I had a security guard right in front of me, so no photos were possible from my area.

It was a fantastic show, and it was evident as the show progressed that Danny was being featured in the setlist, and Nils spent a fair amount of time playing right beside him...so I had an inkling the rumors were true, and then the final bow certainly confirmed it.

Hopefully whatever his issue is is a short term and very treatable thing and he will be back, but I don't expect him to be on the road in Europe based on what I saw.

No surprise, hope he recovers completely and quickly:
DANNY FEDERICI TO TAKE LEAVE OF ABSENCE

Danny Federici, an original member of the E Street Band, is taking a leave of absence from the current Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band tour to pursue treatment for melanoma. Charles Giordano, who played with Bruce as a member of the Sessions Band, will temporarily fill in for Danny until he is able to return. Federici has been playing keyboards with Springsteen since the late Sixties. Said Springsteen, "Danny is one of the pillars of our sound and has played beside me as a great friend for more than 40 years. We all eagerly await his healthy and speedy return."

Federici has been actively supporting the Melanoma Research Foundation and its Wings of Hope Gala, honoring Dr. Paul Chapman.

Go to http://www.melanoma.org/memorialdonation.aspx and make a donation IN HONOR OF Dan Federici.

And then let's sit back and let the foundation tell everyone how great Pearl Jam & Bruce's fans are, that donations skyrocketed after the announcement about Danny.

Something good can come out of this.

wishing danny a speedy and swift recovery.

the giadano guy from SSB is a great musician also.

Was listening to local radio here in NY when the head of the NJ Sports Authourity (which runs Meadowlands) said that Bruce is scheduled for 10 shows Summer 08 at Giants Stadium!!!

a decision has not yet been made whether it will be the arena or giants stadium next summer and dates are blocked out at both so all the sports authority guy would know is that dates have been blocked out. time will tell and while i think it will be stadium i am hoping for the arena.

alltho details may vary from venue to venue- as well as the sectioning / sizes, ect,...

overall it is the same configuration whereas the front " pit " area is dedicated to the wristbands and the lottery, as well as the wristbands , and then finally the typical, non wristband GA ticket holder ( which goes to the rear ) .

arrive early ! GET A WRISTBAND ! rgardless of the number drawn have one of these on your wrist . ! GOOD LUCK !

Hey thanks! Yeah I'll be there early forsure!

In Detroit that is exactly how they did it, but I felt it bad for a couple I met inside...they had been waiting all day in line, told that it was the first 500 in line that would be in the 1st section, first come first in kinda deal, then they did the wrist band thing at 5:30, so they were pissed after being told it was first come deal, and the number drawn was 175 so the first 175 people in line were outta luck. Apparently they only let 500 people in but then let 200 more in from what I heard. I want the rail so as long as I get in that first section I'll be happy and get up there!!!

I just thought it was weird that the tix said Flr 1 thou cause for Detroit the Flr tix came up just as Flr GA...probably it will be the wrist band deal thou so thanks for the GOOD LUCK..I'll need it :)

  • I got me a GA ticket for Copps!!

I'm sure the floors will be the same as Toronto. I didn't win the lottery but I still got into the first part. It was sooo empty up there. It was good for as I got to dance, but I can't imagine how it must look to Bruce from the stage. Amazing show tho!
    I'm sooo excited!!

And don't forget: European concertgoers, we're counting on you for setlists and show reports. For both the website and the magazine, we hope you'll tell us about what you see. Please send your reports to onstage@backstreets.com (and scans of ticket stubs, ads, photos, etc. to images@backstreets.com). Thanks as always for the help!

PIT procedure for Madrid Night 1 :

"There were 200 pit bands issued, but no lottery; instead, just the mad dash of old, and a check for wristbands at the pit gate. By the mid-point of the show there must have been 600 crazies in there. As is typical for Spain and Italy, far more respect, sobriety, sense of community and love than on Bruce's U.S. home turf, reminiscent of the passion that used to be a part of the pre-1984 North American fan behavior. Exactly why Europe is the essential Bruce experience." "Darkness" was a standout, and "Thunder Road" was played by request -- a request that was echoed by 20,000 people calling for it, too. "Okay, okay, we got it!" said Bruce. A strong showing from Clarence, and Dan Federici wasn't the only bandmember missing -- Patti Scialfa was absent, too. Surprisingly, they kept "Tunnel of Love" in the set anyway, with Soozie Tyrell stepping up. And as for Giordano, Miller tells us, "There were points where he was clearly in awe. To paraphrase the old Oldsmobile ad: this isn't your father's Seeger Sessions show."

November 25 / Madrid, ESP / Palacio De Deportes
Notes: Early arrivals to the European opener in Madrid caught Charlie Giordano practicing before the show, getting ready for his E Street Band debut. Despite that pre-show entertainment, it was a restless crowd that had to wait until 9:50 for the concert to start -- they kept themselves occupied by doing the wave and chanting "Bruce! Bruce! Bruce!" Springsteen himself appeared to be suffering from a cold, but he fed off the energy of the wild audience, which sang and shouted along from the beginning. Ross Miller describes the scene: "There were 200 pit bands issued, but no lottery; instead, just the mad dash of old, and a check for wristbands at the pit gate. By the mid-point of the show there must have been 600 crazies in there. As is typical for Spain and Italy, far more respect, sobriety, sense of community and love than on Bruce's U.S. home turf, reminiscent of the passion that used to be a part of the pre-1984 North American fan behavior.
