Yup. Kate is indeed a goddess. I highly recommend checking out some Chris Brown & Kate Fenner albums. Also if you can find it, check out her solo album "Horses and Burning Cars". It's great stuff! For more info, go here:

I bought "World Container" a few weeks ago just because of the reviews I had read on it. I have not liked the Hip's past few albums and I haven't bought one in years (Henhouse is the most recent purchase I think).

All I can say is WOW. This CD is brilliant.

"World Container" is an unbelievable song. "In View", "Yer Not The Ocean", "Love (sic)", "The Drop Off", etc, etc, etc. The great songs just never end on this CD. Unreal.

Thanks to all those who recommended it in this thread!

You're welcome! Glad to see that you've re-acquainted yourself with the Hip.

Hey gang. Since today is the 17th anniversary of the horrific events that took place in Montreal in 1989, I figured the following link is especially appropriate. Please take a moment today to remember.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to hear the Hip's historic performance of "Montreal" live on Dec. 7th, 2000 at Montreal's Bell Centre.

An awful thing, my ex-husbands name, before he was adopted as a young child was Adam Marc Lépine. It is completely different since his adoption, but the gunman listed above was named Marc Lépine. I used to wonder if they were related. If it weren't for the story my ex told me about his name, I would have never heard of the massacre. My ex is Canadian, btw.

Anybody here planning on seeing the Hip open for The Who this spring in the U.S.? Personally I think I'm gonna wait until they announce their own headlining tour of the U.S. before I plan any border crossings. I'd love to follow the band down the west coast. I've always wanted to do something like that, but I've never had the cash.

I absolutely can't wait for the Hip to come to Regina. Day after my b-day, 3rd row seats, it will be a great night!
    Which came first,
the bad idea or me befallen by it?

Hey gang! If you want to hear what truly distinguishes the Hip from other bands and makes them one of the all-time greats, check out today's song of the day at thehip.com: an insane version of "At the Hundredth Meridian" from somewhere in the U.S. in 1996. It must be almost 20 minutes long! It's performances like this that put the Hip head and shoulders above their peers. The greatest rock n' roll band in the world. Yeah, that's right, I said it. Check it out:

I especially like the part during the extended jam when they start playing "So Hard Done By"-- kind of a song within a song within a song. They do it so seamlessly, it's amazing. Not many bands can do stuff like that and pull it off. I think that just shows how in tune these guys are to each other when they're on stage. It's remarkable.

Don't mind me, I'm just rescuing the thread from page 3. So did anybody here make it to the Holiday Jam at the Phoenix the other night? I would've killed to have heard the group sing-a-long of "Summerside of Life". You bastards in Toronto always get the good stuff. I wish the Hip would do shows like that out here, but it rarely ever happens. At least I got to see them at MacEwan Hall.

Oh, and speaking of the holiday season, Happy Festivus everyone! I'll get the alluminum pole out of the crawl space and we'll all gather around the table for the airing of grievances. Remember, Festivus isn't over until somebody pins me!

Hey Mr Wolf - I have been trying to post some sort of review of this show for a couple days now.....things in my neck of the woods have been insanely busy these days.

I posted in the Matt Mays on Conan thread....which was an amazing performance of a song that I was never crazy about - very intense. After seeing a fairly different side of the band a few days earlier I have become an instant fan.

The show was unbelievable - a very laid back and informal sort of night. Everyone got about 30-45 minutes.....wish it could have been longer

Alot of covers - which is always nice. Kathleen Edwards did a couple GREAT ones: I'm On Fire - Bruce Springsteen and Only Love Can Break Your Heart - Neil Young.

Sam Roberts and Matt Mays did a great duet - a song that I wasnt familiar with.

Unfortunately Gord did NOT join Sarah Harmer for Silver Road (was really hoping that would happen).

Sarah did a great version of Lodestar - where she sat in on the drums..... Hip Fans: If you have never heard "LODESTAR" by Sarah Harmer - check it out NOW.....one of my all time favs

.....I got to talk to Sarah after the show - her whole family was there and were sitting right in front of us (they had set up a little seating area in the middle of the venue)....she is so great/down to earth/appreciative of her fans. A few years ago I saw her play at my campus bar - the show had this coffee house vibe and she took requests all night. After the show she smoked a joint with me and a bunch of my friends (and my future wife)......a great memory - although it is a little blurry ;)

The Hip set was amazing. Not as good as the show at the Phoenix a few weeks back - but great in its own way (Gord was sporting the exact same outfit.....as the sweatiest man in showbiz - I hope he owns a few of those black shirts) Gord was clearly in great spirts - you could tell he was into the whole vibe of the night.

Only small complaint - as I haven't seen some of these bands before (esp.Kathleen Edwards) it would have been nice to hear a little "Hockey Skates" or "Mercury" or "Lone Wolf"......but it seemed like all the bands decided to take their usual set lists, throw em out the window and make it up as they go.....lottsa fun

The group collaboration of the Gordon Lightfoot song was a perfect way to end the night - a very different concert experience and I enjoyed it immensely.
In my world everyone is a pony,
and they all eat rainbows and pooh butterflies!
