Nope. In past years they've also opened for Page & Plant and The Rolling Stones.

I'll go you one further by keeping the thread at the top of page 1! This upcoming tour with The Who should be pretty cool. This is obviously a big deal for the guys, and I hope they gain some new fans because of it. After slugging it out for 20 years as a relatively unknown indie band in the U.S., they certainly deserve the extra attention.

From the sounds of it, it looks like it'll be a U.S. only tour. They're already doing a full-on Canadian tour just before the Who tour, so I doubt you'll see them back in Canada until next summer. Robby mentioned in a recent interview that they'll probably be touring the States in March, April, and May, and then come back up to Canada for some outdoor shows in the summer.

I'd love to go, but unfortunately those tickets are WAY too expensive for me. I certainly hope that along with the show you also get dinner. Or at the very least, some champagne at midnight.

call it how you like it but i think pete is helping drive these picks for opening bands on the latest who tour. 1st moe and now the tragically hip. OMG

i got nothing to say bad about pete, from now on...even IF he does choose to gouge the shit out of his long time loyal fans with those ticket prices...WELL....if he's spending that extra cash by giving it to bands like TTH and moe. then the guy is MY NEWEST HERO(again!)

the choice of putting moe as opener in london ont and TTH for san diego is so damn smart...im just so damn happy to think/know that pete actually cares about more live music promoting, than money in his pocket

looks very good on the who, imho

TTH will kicks san diego's ass

There's no doubt in my mind that Pete must have stumbled across the Hip and said to himself, "holy crap, these guys are great." Great musicians know great artists when they see them. Back in '95 when they opened for Page & Plant, I remember Gord Sinclair mentioning that they received some extra attention from Robert Plant. He said that every night of the tour, Robert would stand at the side of the stage and watch their entire set. He would also frequently hang out, drink beer, and play pool with them backstage, which Sinclair said was amazingly surreal, considering they grew up idolizing Led Zeppelin as kids. I imagine getting to share the stage with The Who every night will be another very cool experience for the Hip.

Dammit! Why does freakin' Toronto always get the good stuff? I'm usually not one to complain, but when it comes to special one-off shows like this one, the west is constantly getting the shaft. I'd step over my own mother to see this show.
