Also I would absolutely love a return to Chicago, but I feel like this is a type of an event for a 40 year thing.
Why are we so sure they’d celebrate year 35? What’s the significance
It's a fan theory/thing people are willing into existence. Also, the timing is all over the place as far as to celebrate 'what'. Hell, Jeff was wearing shirts with 33 on them, and Ed was ever present with his Walter Payton 34 jersey lol.
The only thing we have to go on, is Ed said they were planning "something special" this year, and the 10-date jaunt isn't it. That's just 2023 over again to keep the wheels greased more to come...
My pessimistic side just thinks they’d wait till year 40 to do another big anniversary type event! will never be upset for them finding a reason to play Chicago!
It just feels right. The band is in top form, with high energy, and just delivered the remarkable masterpiece Dark Matter. Why not PJ35 now, while they have this energy. 2024 was quite the year for Pearl Jam, and us fans, plus many new fans I'm sure.
I remember EV talking during this year's Wrigley shows. Was it just me, or did he make it sound like Wrigley shows were in the band's rearview mirror? He would talk about Wrigley being special, being honored to have played there, and not being sure if they'd make it back... more than once.
It could have been typical EV Wrigley jargon, or an acknowledgment of age, but I don't remember that sentiment in '16 or '18. It seems especially odd given his recent comments about the band having at least another record or two left in 'em.
Nostalgia aside a football stadium is one of the worst places for a concert.
Soldier field is absolutely awful for concerts. Wouldn’t miss this one, but not a fan of the stadium for concerts.
What don’t you like besides it being an enormous stadium? Bad sound?
Sound is okay. I’m sure PJ would/did sound great there. You’re there to watch the screens, unless you’re actually close.
Just leaving afterwards, doesn’t seem to matter if you leave early, or hang around. The hordes of people trying to navigate that museum campus is a nightmare. And I usually don’t care about large crowds. Leaving lollapalooza is easier than leaving a concert at soldier field. In my opinion
This - leaving Metallica at Soldier Field last year was a nightmare for me. You shuffle along, shoulder to shoulder with thousands of people for more than a hour just trying to get to the main avenue. The sound was great though and getting in was a breeze. Be prepared for the agonizing departure though if they do play there. That being said, I would do it all over again to see PJ there 🤣🤣

It did kinda feel like that. You never know, but it that's the end for them there, then I was happy to be there,

I think after Eds health issues in Europe coupled with the band getting older in general, I think the Wrigley talk was more 'appreciate it while you got it because you don't know whats coming next'. But If they are doing Soldier, I'm sure talk was initiated at some point this year so he probably figured maybe thats in the cards for the foreseeable future and not Wrigley.

Metallica is hard to judge sound of a venue by though. They do a 3 hour full band soundcheck the Thursday before all their weekend concerts on this tour. So they’re dialing in everything for every corner of each venue they go to. Most bands don’t go to that extreme.

Weird because I had the exact opposite experience both shows. Paid for parking in advance, and yeah, while the walk to the lot sucks, getting out was a breeze and right onto LSD. I should say though, we left right as the last song started for each night, so maybe that was a factor.
I'm seeing more and more shows happen there. Oasis, System of a Down and Avenged Sevenfold.... It would be neat, but when was the last time PJ played a NFL stadium...?

What does that have to do with anything?
Yeah idk. Several shows get played there every summer.
I would be there for that. As for Soldier Field, if the Bears move, then they will just fix that stadium up so the Chicago Fire and Red Stars could play there, without that massive weird upper deck. (I hope)

They don't play NFL stadiums. That's what it has to do with anything. Let me condense my statement. I don't believe they're going to play Soldier Field.

Just because they DON’T, doesn’t mean they WON’T.
Besides, they just played SEVEN football stadiums last month🤷♂️🤷♂️😂😂

There was a long time before 2016 when people would argue that PJ couldn't sellout baseball stadiums. That they would never play them.

Yep, and then they announced that ‘13 Wrigley show, and a lot of people were saying “oh, it might be pretty well sold, but no way they sell it out”, and then it was the fastest sellout there to that point. Then people said “well, its only because there were no East Coast shows.” So they come back in ‘16 and sell out TWO shows, among many other shows, including East Coast. This is a very popular rock band, and has been for 34 plus years, and their biggest fans think they are some indie group or something. It is NOT the same 15,000 people going to every show, try to digest that……..
Definitely preferred to Wrigley. 3 consecutive years is a little hard to believe though..
if it was gonna happen anywhere, it would be Chicago
Or Philly?
Sure hope they never do the Linc in Philly. Maybe could get on board with Citizens Bank but I’d imagine since they haven’t played there yet and as good as the Philly and last Camden show was they’d be in no hurry to play either
All for a PJ35. Please, please just no to Soldier Field. Let the '95 show live on as the legendary show that it was. Don't mess with perfection.
Soldier Field 7-11-95, Alpine Valley 6-26-98, United Center 6-29-98, Riverport Amphitheater (St. Louis)7-2-98, MGM Grand Arena 10-22-00, Sprint Center (Kansas City)5-3-10, Adams Event Center (Missoula)9-30-12, Wrigley Field 7-19-13, Jobing.com Arena (Phoenix)11-19-13, Moda Center (Portland)11-29-13, Spokane Arena 11-30-13, Pepsi Center (Denver)10-22-14, Gila River Arena (Phoenix)5-9-22, Moody Center (Austin)9-18-23, Moody Center 9-19-23, Rogers Arena (Vancouver)5-4-24, Rogers Arena 5-6-24, MGM Grand 5-16-24, MGM Grand 5-18-24, Wrigley Field 8-29-24, Wrigley Field 8-31-24
Wouldn’t be upset with a Soldier Field show if they either: 1. Use massive venues to do 3-hour shows again, but spaced far apart 2. Use it as a way to create a mini-fest with 3-4 openers to make it more of a destination event

It could have been typical EV Wrigley jargon, or an acknowledgment of age, but I don't remember that sentiment in '16 or '18. It seems especially odd given his recent comments about the band having at least another record or two left in 'em.
