What does that have to do with anything?

They don't play NFL stadiums. That's what it has to do with anything. Let me condense my statement. I don't believe they're going to play Soldier Field.
Just because they DON’T, doesn’t mean they WON’T.

Besides, they just played SEVEN football stadiums last month🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️😂😂
There was a long time before 2016 when people would argue that PJ couldn't sellout baseball stadiums. That they would never play them.
Yet they still hold the Wrigley Field Record for fastest sellout. Including Cubs WS in 2016 and Foo Fighters. And that was 2013

Saw the last show of Lynard Skynard with an OG band member in San Antonio 2 years ago. They still tour, now a 100% cover band. PJ will die sooner than we think

Definitely preferred to Wrigley. 3 consecutive years is a little hard to believe though..
if it was gonna happen anywhere, it would be Chicago
    Or Philly?
I’m not speaking on which city “deserves” it more… just that they have played Chicago more than any one city for the last decade

    Wow
  • The distance to the end is closer now than it's ever been.  Sad but true.  Savor every show.
I've seen quite a few Pearl Jam shows.

I mean it's sad to think about.  They're mostly in the early 60s (or about to enter them).  You hope they have a Rolling Stones length of career, but on the spectrum of bands, that's best case scenario, which would mean 20 years(ish).  If something not good happen, then less.  It doesn't really feel like that much time.   And most bands don't make it to Rolling Stones Length careers.

Generally I feel this way about most of my favourite bands, which is why I keep going to shows.  When I'm retired, I doubt there's going to be many concerts I want to go to.   May as well keep going while I can.

It’s a nice number divisible by 5…that’s all I’ve gathered.
That’s why I’m trying to make sense of there even being a PJ35 event. Other than, “the band is being talked about a lot right now”

I know some bands celebrate 20 years as a band, as Pearl Jam did. Placebo is the last band that comes to mind that also did the same. Surely if Pearl Jam celebrate another anniversary it’ll be 40 years??

Logically, 40 does make the most sense, since the first "PJ" event was PJ20.
A 20 year interval is a sound assumption.

However, the band's energy is currently very high.
They just recently released Dark Matter, a masterpiece that stands up to the very best albums in their catalog.
The Andrew Watt effect is magical, and they likely have some new projects on the way very soon.

So given these factors , why not do it now, rather than see what the situation is like in 5 years.

The Cure did a special Hyde Park gig in London 2018 for their 40th anniversary, also put it out in theatres/blu-ray, etc.  And splitting hairs here, but wouldn't 2026 be the 35th for PJ? If Soldier Field is being talked about for next summer, it wouldn't have anything to do with an anniversary.

October 1990 was the first official Pearl Jam show.  The PJ20 film material was put together in 2010.
Then the PJ20 tour kicked off the following year in 2011.  But the concept of PJ20 is based on 20 years from the original show.

Aside from being Walter Payton's jersey, Ed emphasized numerous times, that it reflected the 34 years of PJ together as a band.
I think one of the reasons was to set in everyone's mind that 2025 is year 35, in PJ years.
Its a nice round number for a milestone, given the fact that 2020 (30 years) was during Covid. No possible show(s) there.

They have the energy and momentum now, why wait 5 years when it might not be as optimum? If it IS, I'm there for PJ40 as well!

If its not PJ35, just a nod to *30 yrs since Soldier Field is good cause for extra celebration.

*My bad. Haven't had my coffee yet.
I didn't make it to the first one, would love to be there if there's another.

Please correct my error. I knew the year, just neglected to do the math.

Hell yes. Pls. Already gonna be in town for Oasis the 26-29th. Even if PJ played the 26th, thatd be great!

  • Question, why is everyone always so hot for PJ to play massive stadiums? I wouldn't go to see them at a football stadium for free. And the baseball parks are not much of a better option imo. I guess I saw them in a stadium once, opening for U2 and honestly, it was not their finest moment. That's not a great setting for PJ imo, not that hockey arenas are "intimate" in any way but that is their sweet spot for me

For Soldier Field, it means that they are playing only a 4 hour Amtrak ride away. I will go if they play there.
  • Would be cool if they could book it for 7.11.25, the 30th anniversary of the legendary 7.11.95 show.  And would be even cooler if they reserved all the good seats and GA for the fan club.  Maybe some moshing, body surfing, Ed climbs a light tower.  Okay, maybe just some good music.

I don't see Ed even entertaining the thought of a climb / crowd surfing etc.

Fair enough. However, most nfl stadiums seem to be around 65-75 thousand capacity. Some more, some less. But if an artist isn’t doing an “in the round” or center stage setup, their attendances numbers are pretty much around 45-50-55k. Look up any stadium sized artist and look at the numbers they draw. The Peppers at Sofi in 2022 was 46,900. And these numbers are the norm out there🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️
