I can totally appreciate Sting, totally. Just for a Saturday headliner it doesn't fit. Of course Im sure they were scrambling, I get that too. Just so bummed it couldn't be a true headliner.

    It’s Sting.

If anyone wants to buy my Saturday wristband let me know.
Wow, so he really is playing Toronto Wednesday, hauling all that gear to So Cal for Saturday and then turning around and going back east to Philly on Monday? That’s crazy! Being a festival he won’t have to bring all the lighting gear and they may borrow some other things, but still.

he plays st louis on friday the 27th. so yeah he’ll be moving around a LOT.

not disappointed with this pick, even if it isn’t the most exciting to me. it’s someone i probably wouldn’t see outside of a festival or multi-artist setting and obviously has a great catalog of music. i saw the police at bonnaroo like 15 years ago and it was fun even if it felt mostly paint-by-numbers. plus, there’s at least an established relationship with pearl jam to some extent, as the band have played his songs and he’s played with them. that’s all cool to me.
That’s right, i forgot about the St. Louis show with Billy, that makes a little more sense then as he’s a bit further west.

I felt the same when he was announced as the replacement at B&B, didn’t love it or hate it. I would’ve preferred PJ or Foo Fighters of course, but the choice also could have been much worse. More than half his setlists this tour have been Police songs, so should be pretty good.

How is Sting not a true headliner? People here were throwing out names that you wouldn't be able to see their font on some festivals

So we are getting Sting playing his 4th consecutive night in 4 different cities, 2 countries and 3 time zones? Seriously this really sucks.
Sting famously has the stamina to have tantric sex for seven straight hours. I think he'll be able to handle it.

I think you need to get yourself up to speed on Sting's solo career. He has many great solo songs: "Fortress Around Your Heart," "We'll Be Together," "Fragile," "Be Still My Beating Heart," "If You Love Somebody Set Them Free," "All This Time," "If I Ever Lose My Faith in You," "Fields of Gold," "Brand New Day," "Desert Rose" and "I Can't Stop Thinking About You"-- and that's just off the top of my head and without even getting into album tracks. The Soul Cages is such a good album.
I gather speed from you fucking with me.

I guess when you're replacing someone (Neil) who's been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice with someone (Sting) who has been inducted only once, that's a disappointment to some people?

I get that NY has a connection to PJ. But looking past the PJ community perspective, I'd have to say Sting is a bigger concert draw these days than Uncle Neil is.

I was trying to figure out how I feel about the Sting announcement.  So far, that sums it up best.  It may be "good" music, but rock music it is not.  Easy listening makes for a nice night out at the beach though, right?  I'm confused by this as I have never ever thought of going to see Sting and now here it is.  Definitely not excited, but it could be worse, I guess.

Per the interweb: "Sting will perform with his new power rock trio, called STING 3.0.

The band includes Dominic Miller, a virtuoso guitarist and longtime Sting collaborator, and Chris Maas, a drummer who has performed with Mumford & Sons and Maggie Rogers.

The performance will include "the most electrifying hits from his vast catalog through the urgent lens of a tight three-piece combo," according to a news release from Bourbon & Beyond.

    "Urgent lens"...?

It’s been a week, since I posted this, and my feelings remain the same.  Nothing against Sting, but definitely doesn’t move the needle for me.  Happy that he excites some of you tho!

Some of these comments are tripping me out.  Not rock music?  Have you really not heard The Police?  Multiple rock bangers.  If you google "The Police" you will see rock band.  If you look at Sting's recent setlists, it had been 80% Police songs.

I'm sure Sting will know the vibe, and keep it rocking.  Plus mix in maybe one or two of his solo songs, or even some cover songs.  Wish I was going but the wife still wants to go to the Miramar Air show, and 3 concerts in a row she is not a fan of.

Easy to sing along with.  If you know the song title it will be repeated a minimum of 10 times in every song.
After 20 Roxannes he could maybe change up the color of the light.

It was nine Police songs out of 19 at his most recent show and eight out of 19 at the one before that, so not quite 80 percent.

The majority of the set consists of Sting solo material, which is fine. They're great songs. He is a fantastic songwriter and musician.

Yes I see, thanks for clarifying.  I based my 80% Police songs on the Rotterdam setlist in my previous post below.  Now that I look again, that setlist has closer to 70% Police.  So really it's going to be a surprise then.  Agreed that Sting is an amazing musician.

My guess would be over 50% Police songs with some cool cover songs added, as well as a few solo gems.

I'm not sure why some are not wanting Sting.  It doesn't make sense and The Police have classic songs.  I WOULD invest money in this if Sting did perform.

Sting's recent setlist has some great songs.  Those not wanting Sting, would you not like this setlist at all?

For me, that’s the problem: I’m sure I know enough to know that nothing about Sting has ever remotely interested me.  Except Fields of Gold.  Great song. If he gives that the “Not Like Us” treatment, that’d be great! Lol

    it’s a festival, it’ll be fine.
