    Oh that would be fantastic!!
It didn't seem like Neil was open to playing Any dates through Ohana.
This gives hope for a "play date" with PJ !

Neil could do some solo, some Mirrorball, and Ed could join in on a few. Perfect solution.
Ed could have the whole night off, but I'm sure he wouldn't be able to resist some participation. (There probably would have been some guesting on the original lineup.)

Let's hope this can work. Thank you kasedoug, for rekindling my hope!

If it doesn't work out, it would still be my first choice among All the speculations, so I'm going to go back to my original dream since before the lineup was even announced: for I'm The Ocean, by the ocean!

This is interesting. Neil Young will be returning to the stage to play Farm Aid on September 21st. Wonder if he could just play solo.

I thought the same. Seemed incredibly drastic to pull out of his entire tour, like it was more the bands call than a personal choice.

He's much better with the band, but as suggested above, I could see Ed and others joining him for a bunch of songs - including "I'm the Ocean."

Elton isn’t 100% retired apparently and clearly there is a real friendship between him and Ed.

Solo would be nice. If only he could assemble a backing band from musicians milling about the grounds that weekend.

Uncle Neil to replace Uncle Neil?  Hmmm, this is not an acceptable comp.  Different crowd and different vibe for sure.

They could play Trans from start to finish. That would be a kick in the pants.

Sorry folks, but reality check. At best, Neil will do a brief solo acoustic set at Farm Aid, might even be just a speaking appearance. He’s a founder and board member of Farm Aid, completely different circumstances to Ohana. He wouldn’t have cancelled if he were able/willing to do a full set, even if it was without Crazy Horse.

Just weird all the way around to cancel all these shows for NYCH but then commit to play Farm Aid which is prior to Ohana. I love Uncle Neil but it would be strange again to make him as the replacement for uh, himself. Let’s just get The Cure and call it a day.

(No surprise!), other than Neil himself, Jack White would be my 1st choice. Then The Cure.

Love the new album and would absolutely love it if Jack played Ohana again. His 2022 set was great.

Mentioned in the JW/TMR/Vault thread I doubt he’d play two festivals in Southern California that close together. Festivals usually have radius clauses, especially for headliners, that prevent them from playing shows in the vicinity for a defined time before and after the festival. They want exclusivity so that you pay to come to their festival to see the artist.

Ohana could be a unique case though since most of the tickets are already sold. Maybe they’d wait for Desert Daze to sell through and then could possibly add him.

He’s listed as a performer and presented 2nd behind Willie, so I dunno, I’d expect he’s playing music at Farm Aid. He also chose not to appear at FA during Covid, so I don’t think he has to be there this year because he’s on the board.

As far as canceling the CH shows, who knows. If it’s a member of CH, and not NY, who has an illness they may have decided to cancel the CH tour to dates to recoup funds or avoid penalties for the group. It could leave open, NY signing a new contract on his own.

I’m not getting my hopes up too much, but if he is performing a set at FA, I don’t see why it isn’t open to speculation that he could do a set with PJ as his band at Ohana… at least until they announce a replacement. The longer it goes unannounced, I’m seeing NY/PJ as more of a possibility.

Neil played four songs at last year's Farm Aid. I'll be stunned if he plays more than six this year. Headlining Ohana is a different animal.

Really good band...don't know if it quite meets "headliner" status for the weekend though...

True, he’d probably have to perform 13-15 songs at Ohana.

I’m surprised we haven’t heard a replacement yet. They’re not going to move many Saturday tickets until they do, and we are only a bit over 2 months away.

He was doing close to 20 songs with his solo tour last summer. He'd have it in him, especially with Ed and others backing him up.

Whether he wants to do it is a separate, legitimate question.

I’m typically very patient, but why is this taking so long? People are trying to determine plans and we are moving in quickly on 2 months out.

It’s only been 3 weeks? I’m sure the framework of the replacement is there, but now road crews have to come together for a possible one-off date and travel. Accommodations for all those people, how much we getting paid, merchandisers scrambling to have shirts shipped. A thousand moving parts. It’s kind of a miracle that festivals like this seem, from the outside, to go off without a hitch with months of preparations.

I agree, but... it has been 4 weeks and another NYCH festival announced their replacement 10 days ago. All your points are valid, and Eddie and Co may be trying hard to get someone in particular.

That was my thought. It might take longer to get "THE replacement" as opposed to "A replacement".

    It’s Sting.

If anyone wants to buy my Saturday wristband let me know.
This show, another show, a show here and a show there.

    Sting is a great choice.
