I've always had kind of a crush on Cyndi Lauper.  She's one cool lady as well!

GRACE UNDER PRESSURE....the album that started my madness with RUSH. I had heard of the band when a friend played 2112. I listened 🎶 and I remember saying, what the hell was that side 1, it was brilliant and so different like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. I then put the band on the back burner for years listening, following their music till 1984. I decided to see them live on the GUP Tour. I was blown away, as they seem to blow the roof off of the 14k Hampton Coliseum, Hampton VA. I was hooked from that moment till the last time I saw them live 49 shows later at Tampa FL 2015. They're STILL to this day my #1 Rock band. Oh it's my all-time favorite album with my favorite song all-time
    Red Sector A.

Speaking as a child of the 80's --

Peter Gabriel, generally, but especially ALL of Security.

    U2 -- Bad
Talking Heads -- Once in a Lifetime (isn't that the unofficial Gen X anthem?)
Violent Femmes -- Add It Up (or is this the anthem?)
The Cars -- This Could Be Love
    The Replacements -- Answering Machine
    REM -- So. Central Rain
    New Order -- Temptation
Everything But the Girl -- Heaven Help Me
When in Rome -- The Promise
The Cure -- Let's Go to Bed
The Smiths -- How Soon Is Now (I wasn't a big Smiths fan, but this song is a masterpiece)
Howard Jones -- No One Is To Blame
Eurythmics -- Love Is a Stranger
Midge Ure -- If I Was
Hoodoo Gurus -- I Was a Kamikaze Pilot
Roxy Music -- Avalon (the whole album); My Only Love
The Divinyls -- I Touch Myself
Romeo Void -- Never Say Never
    and so many, many more...

Ah. Last but not least: The Church

The Church were my primary musical obsession from 1983 until... I don't even know when. I literally sprinted to the record store when Starfish was released in 1988. My favorite Church song from the 1980s... that's a tie between:

    Hotel Womb

    and

    Is This Where You Live

Brian, this is a massive rabbit hole for someone like me to fall down!

Another one as a kid and listening to it on the 45.

Pass the Dutchie by Musical Youth.  A song about passing a joint.

"How does it feel when you got no food?"  Being poor and hearing that was made me realize that others are poor too.

Haha!  It is indeed!  A lot of good pics on your list!
It's funny because a lot of boomers like myself thought of the 80s as a disaster as far as music goes.  I'm the first to admit there were some aspects of a lot of 80s music I didn't and still don't care for- I never warmed up to a lot of the 80s disco, and particularly off flavor for me was some of the production techniques that have not held up well.  But any music time period will have is pluses and minuses for any listener.  What really puzzled me about the 80s was how seriously a lot of my peers missed out on the music of that time.  There was SO MUCH to pick from.  For everything that didn't work well for me, there were a dozen thing that I got ecstatic over.  Anyone who listed long enough would have found something great to listen to and fall in love with.  I discovered for myself tons of great music and a whole lot of it has held up really well for me.  A lot of my favorite music came out of the 80s.

    So... LONG LIVE 80s MUSIC!

Great song.  Legs was what I always loved.  Great hook. Plus that video was filmed at Bouquet Burrito in Saugus where I once lived during the filming.

1989.  I received a bunch of shit from the non metalheads about this video, lol.  Metallica wasn't about videos but they made "One".  Thank God I could use that play on words for a few more years.  When they made Enter Sandman I had nothing, lol.
Every non metal head became a fan though.  They dug it.

I can remember when that One video came out and the uproar that came with the video. Many fans were saying that Metallica was selling out etc etc. I was like that's nonsense, it was a great video done in black and white. It seem like they were playing in a warehouse jamming. I loved it. Also they adapted the old movie to the video was absolutely great idea.
That said Justice is my second favorite album of there's that has my fourth favorite song of there's called.....
    Eye Of The Beholder

Love the slow fade in on the 8 count then they rip into the song with that deadly riff. The lyrics are so over the top 👍 good, I could listen to it all day.

Yes, i have that single and B side. They would play Breadfan during their encore.. It is a great cover song 🎵  especially finishing up a show.

That said, I'll go with this 80's classic. It's was their first album which was solid from beginning to end.
    The album....VIVID
    The song.....Cult Of Personality
    The band.....Living Colour

Great riff from Vernon Reid 👏

I was going to post one from these guys.  They had a solid 2 record run.  These guys were huge on Long Island for years until they finally got signed.  My cousin was an OG SMF and did like 100 shows.
