Zen and New Day I know, but the fidelity was so awful on those- especially New Day- I never went further.  Did that improve?

To be honest it’s been a minute since I listened  to any HD albums in full (I tend to reach for Bob Mould solo records first these days) but I’ve always loved this song.

Is that Flip Your Wig? If so, yes the fidelity improved. Pretty sure it is a major label signing.

As for the crappy sound on Zen and New Day, I don’t think it will ever be improved. Those were on SST.

I highly recommend reading Corporate Rock Sucks. It is the story of SST Records (born out of a radio part catalog, music zine, and Black Flag). It has some interesting details about the status of those recordings.

I have such mixed feelings about SST.  Mostly respect for them supporting bands that we might not ever have heard of if not for them willing to take the leap of faith to sign them on.  But the sound quality of so many SST releases is really bad!

Thanks for the book tip!  I'm always eager to read a good book about music and musicians!

Really nice tune.  It was a favorite of a friend who I haven't seen in a 4 or 5 years (very possibly put himself out of touch because he was seriously ill and didn't want friends to know/ be hurt).  I always think of him when I hear this song.

Was that Snakefinger song ever played on Dr Dimento?

Speaking of.... Fish Heads by Barnes and Barnes. FF to 2 min if you want the song.  This was a great weird one. "They cant wear sweaters they're not good dancers they can't play drums.."

I've never warmed up big-time to most heavy metal, but I saw this on YouTube the other night and have to say, the musicianship is mighty impressive:

"Pretty cookies, heart squares all around, yeah!"
    -Eddie Vedder, "Smile"

"Try to not spook the horse."

As much as I love Mike Patton, Chuck really nailed the definitive version of this song

Boy Meets Girl-Waiting For A Star To Fall. Always loved this song as a kid-but never knew its name so was always trying to find out when it came on the radio and was inevitably disappointed when the DJ neglected to let us know. Not exactly a testosterone fuelled rocker but the melody stuck with me and as I got older and had the chance to listen to it more deeply I can appreciate it as a really well crafted piece of pop. Guilty pleasures don't exist when you don't give a shit 😂

For sure!  I never balk at admitting "guilty pleasures".  In fact, I don't even feel guilty!

Here's a favorite from '84 from one of the great "next generation" of folk-rock protest singers, Billy Bragg:

A lot of Metal bands had the musicianship.  Megadeth totally does.  Mustaine was a perfectionist.  Maiden has it, Metallica has it, Slayer has it.  A bunch of bands do.

@brianlux in my opinion this is the best Megadeth song ever made.  Give it a listen.
