Shesh, and from the newsletter I swore it was going to be Upper Hand... This is exactly why you cant feed into hype. Wreckage got hyped up. I'm thinking its out of this world, but my expectations going in were unrealistic. I have been vocal during this whole leadup at how great it has been, and how much I love the vibe right now, as well as Dark Matter and Running- which some knocked. The anticipation is killing me.... I have the movie reservations, debating traveling an hour there and back to attend record store listening...

We are almost there! I thought Something to Give was gonna come out today or Friday... will there be another single? And what about that Upper Hand mention... just a play on words? Seems like the band is enjoying this too!

The only opinion I have at the moment is that we shouldn’t use so many acronyms. Just spell the song out 😉
Something Special, Waiting For Stevie, Setting Sun, Upper Hand etc. Doesn’t take long to type.

I mean this is the best way possible bc your excitement is admirable. I think you should take a step back and a deep breath haha.

sounds like you’re reading into/hanging onto every little word and driving yourself mad.

Something to give? You mean something special or got to give?

I would not assume a new single. If there is one, next week is most likely (that’s the industry trend).

just sit back and relax. It will all unfold as it’s supposed to!

Hate to kill the vibe, but I doubt Wreckage will be the single. According to this PJonline article, there's gonna be 1 snippet everyday, like this:

    1. Something special 4/9
    2. Wreckage 4/10
    3. e.g. Got To Give 4/11
    4. e.g. Upper Hand 4/12
    5. e.g. Scared of Fear 4/13
    6. e.g. Waiting For Stevie 4/14
    7. e.g. React, Respond 4/15
    8. e.g. Won't Tell 4/16
    9. e.g. Setting Sun 4/17

From what it sounds like, the singles that have been released are hardly the best tracks on DM. Got To Give, Won't Tell, and Upper Hand would be top choices IMAO from what I know. My only fear is that React, Respond will be like DOTC2 (not that I can't stand DOTC, it's just an awkward fit for them and, unpopular opinion alert, I'd rather hear some Vitalogy/No Code/Yield type rockers. It's not always bad to return to your roots a bit.)

I would love to hear a studio version of "Of the earth".  Wouldn't it be funny if "Waiting for Stevie" is really "Of the earth"?  Remember, Crapshoot Rapture ended up being Comatose, and Letter to the Dead became Sad.  hahahahahaha
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

But Something Special was Monday 4/8, we didn’t get one yesterday. So that article might be jumping to some conclusions.

How is that an unpopular opinion? I'd think just about everyone would love that.

Does it not make sense that some things on a Pearl Jam song would sound like Earthlings if that’s how Ed’s writing songs now? Like Stone totally is bringing an electronic sounding guitar from his band and no one is pointing that out. Everyone is just being themselves on these tracks it sounds to me. Watts production sounds way better to me than it was on Earthlings and that Iggy Pop album. Matt’s drums also sound exactly like they did since Soundgardens last album. I guess I just don’t see why all the hate on socials😭😂

If it sounds like earthlings it is more about Ed’s new singing style than production. 7 o’clock is a good example of his new style.

really not a fan of when Eddie sings like this. Very similar to a lot of gigaton. Don’t like this one.

Exactly this! Ed was literally inspired to write more songs while recording Earthling and he called the guys to come down there and record PJ songs. Not surprising at all that they have that feel.

I wonder if we'd even have a new record right now if Ed wasn't excited to work with Watt.  Perhaps we'd be waiting another 2 years.  If you don't like Watt, you can at least acknowledge he got the band to make a record in a "relatively" quick time period.

And thank God for that.  The 7 year wait for Gigaton was no fun.

He did do that, I’d be shocked if Pearl Jam aren’t producers on the album along with him. The jump of quality in sound from Earthling and the Iggy Pop album leads me to think the band produced as well like they have on every album that Brendan OBrien didn’t work on. Excitement and getting out of comfort zones isn’t something that has been mentioned in their process since Backspacer.
