Ever since Of The Earth I've been patiently waiting for a spacey, slightly proggy, slightly jammy era
I would love to hear a studio version of "Of the earth".  Wouldn't it be funny if "Waiting for Stevie" is really "Of the earth"?  Remember, Crapshoot Rapture ended up being Comatose, and Letter to the Dead became Sad.  hahahahahaha
For what its worth when I heard Scared of Fear last night for the first time the riff reminded me of something and then suddenly Of the Earth and the first 10 seconds of Alone popped into my head. Song as a whole isn't Of the Earth but there's some elements in there.

I was thinking it reminded me of Into the Great Wide Open era Petty, but you're right even more specifically it's Learning to Fly. You can hear that song, but Wreckage in no way is ripping it off either.

This albums 7 o clock. Beautiful music with Word Salad on top.

The music is fantastic but the lyrics / vocals are the weak link here.  Nothing catchy that you can sing, no angst, no passion.  Just kind of there. Probably would be better as an instrumental.

Can't really see this one being great live. Like 7 o clock it will just exist.

So far and from the cinema session this is my favourite song of the album. Hoping for plenty inclusions in setlists on this tour. So beautiful.
  • Wreckage is a damn good song

Learning to Fly rip off. The worst song on the album. Along with Won't Tell and Got To Give.

    Not really feeling this one.

The first two singles from the album, and the comments from the band about it being heavier than you'd expect, had me pretty intrigued. Having listened to all of the audio clips, I'm not sure what they were talking about. It's almost exactly what I'd expect if I were expecting the worst.

I'm glad people are enjoying this track, but this doesn't sound like the Pearl Jam I love. It sounds like Pearl Jam for people who love Sirens. Unfortunately I hated that song and the album it came from. I just think it's an extreme departure from the band they were and not in a good way. The slower tempo songs and ballads used to have an edge to them. This just sounds soft.

Still heard some interesting stuff in the other clips, and can't wait to listen to the album in its entirety, but I'm really taming my expectations at this point. From what I've heard, wreckage, won't tell and something special sound like Pearl Jam exercising their worst indulgences to me....but maybe, hopefully, I'll be pleasantly suprised when I give the album a proper listen.

Enjoyed this on first listen more than the previous two singles. Looking forward to hearing the whole album.

I like it.  Big audio spacing…feels like it could have been on Yield.  Really think the back half of it will sound great live.  It’s not a 10/10 but I think it’s a nice song that will age well.  Not every song is going to be Hail Hail or Indifference.

I went to the theatrical experience last night, wreckage was one of my favorites although hard to choose as I liked basically all of the songs to a similar degree.

I agree with lifted in the sense that this album, to me, is NOT heavy at all really other than maybe running and dark matter singles..so i was also wondering what the hell they were talking about it with it being heavy lol.

As far as lightning bolt and sirens i loved that song and the album was pretty decent as a whole, not top 5 for sure, but good. I find myself still loving their Ten and Vs stuff the most, but I also love their new stuff too even though it does sound different, i mean eddie is a 60 year old smoker who doesn't maybe take the absolute best care of his vocals and he still is better than basically any other rockers in his age range to me anyway.

Love this mix of Petty and PJ.
  • great tune but a lyrical gut punch!

I had to go back and listen to learning to fly to make the connection...but yeah...I definitely hear it. Same tempo...pretty much identical song structure. Learning to fly was a pretty good song though. Wreckage, not so much.

Lol that doesn't sound like Given to Fly at all. It's a little too early in the morning for you guys to be on acid. Anyway, I'll be interested to delve into the lyrics. I hear some interesting stuff going on there at first listen.

the capture of this performance has the V.S. lightning in a bottle feel that was missing from the production of the last few albums
