seriously though. why are all of us not in congress or something? we all disagree on a lot of things but we discuss things and could come up with solutions if we really wanted to. can't say that about anybody in our current congress.
Because the point is to just argue pointlessly while getting nothing done, so you can promise in your next term you’ll get done what you didn’t get done in your last, “cuz the other side”. I would actually LOVE to know what these people, on both sides (and in my CDN government) actually fucking accomplish on any given day.

-another pointless hearing, hoping for a gotcha moment that ends up on the nightly talking head shows
    -lunch out
    -TCB
    -dinner out
-drinks, uh, long night at the office

Exactly why I hate politics and I’m so sick of everyone. Nothing ever gets done and that’s exactly what they want. Same issues for decades over and over and over. It’s exhausting.
Nothing ever gets done? Didn’t the dem governor of PA fix a bridge on I95 in 7 days or something? Isn’t the Brandon Crime Wave’s infrastructure bill getting “‘something’ done?” Is “nothing” just the issues you personally care about?

Just imagine what could get done if the other side would agree or disagree based upon the same set of facts and offer alternative proposals so that both sides could try to meet in the middle? For example, Repubs haven’t submitted a budget or spending proposals. Brandon has and has offered to meet to discuss once they have. Instead, they’ll shut down government. Hard to have discussions on disagreements when you don’t know where the other side stands on spending priorities.

Believe it or not, the Brandon Crime Wave has gotten a lot done. Not everything, not perfect, but shits getting done.

And yea, nothing drives people out to vote like infrastructure.

OOOoh! He got u on that one too did he!?!

At the end of the day we should all be entitled to clean air and clean water.  That isn't nor should be up for debate.  Maybe if we hit it from that angle things would change?

Without googling here are the things that we made strides on:

    Acid rain
    Ozone
In some areas Fracking, over fishing, dumping.
    Air Quality
    LEED certified buildings
    Solar for the people
    Lead, asbestos and radiation

I can't imagine these were all strictly Democrat doings.  Somehow, some way there needs to be a way to bridge the gap.
  • he obviously didn't mean "nothing" literally. he meant "nothing on the scale of how much could get done".
Then maybe Nick should have said that, or should readers assume what he means? Honest debate is difficult enough without having to assume what someone meant to say. They could just say what they mean. Would you write an email to your boss or colleagues claiming nothing works around here and assume that they knew you were talking about the printer being down again? As an example. Ever hear the expression, “say what you mean, mean what you say?”

you often take things extremely literally, pretty standard for you. I've mentioned this many times. I don't know if it's a flaw, or you pick at things to jump on to somehow "score points".

you could always try to embrace a little nuance in conversations.

My standards are a tad different when sending out formal correspondence to those I work professionally with than they are on a rock band's message board.

Mine are not. Sure, there are often times that I’m flip and I wouldn’t use that in a work communication but you’ll still know where I stand.

While I’m criticized for my views, approach and other aspects of my posts, I don’t think anyone has to assume where I stand or what my position is. Posting “nothing gets done” when you meant “not enough gets done” are two completely different viewpoints. As such, they may lead to two different paths of discussion. I find not being specific to be intellectually dishonest, as in, “I’ll say ‘nothing gets done’ because typing what I’m really pissed/disappointed/disgusted with is too much work.” Should I assume that when Nick said “nothing gets done” in the context of politics that he’s equating both sides are the same? Because to me, currently, dems are getting shit done, whereas in the previous administration and it’s congress, little got done other than tax cuts for the wealthy, a bungled Covid response and a partial wall that Mexico still owes us for.

Biden had four huge legislative accomplishments (to add to tempo’s list), infrastructure (as you mentioned), chips and science act, IRA (climate bill), and gun safety bill. The same old same old point that started this brouhaha is inaccurate when Biden had a dem congress, but when the GOP takes control, they do everything they can to start a fight over the budget and both parties get blamed.

all these legislative accomplishments have not occurred in decades, and when the Dems controlled congress last year, this $hit got done. Yet to independents and those who “hate politics” the current budget fight appears as if it’s business as usual. yet the fact that progress is stalled now simply because republicans are the party searching for problems is completely lost to those hating politics independents.

it’s like blaming Ukraine for the war they are waging.

It’s left to the reader then to “assume” what the poster thinks or believes “what was done” and “what was left undone” or incomplete or what they have issues with. Lazy.

I’ll assume Nick is upset that Eric hasn’t abolished the police yet because “nothing” gets done.
