Anyone that’s read the interviews, have they talked about when this was recorded. Few of the songs give off strong LB vibes. Just wondering how long this has been in the works.

According to the story in Variety, it came together "out of nowhere" in May 2021, when Ed was rehearsing at Watt's studio for a benefit performance.

The album has already grown on me. I think the songs get better the more you listen and shouldn't be compared to his previous solo albums as all his music is unique. EV has a beautiful voice, however he uses it and will always be the no. 1 rockstar.

I feel the same way about the individual singles. As part of this album I like them a lot more than as single songs if that makes sense
I get a chuckle when people say Ed’s voice sounds like shit. If you’ve never tried singing into a mic before, give it a shot and let me know how that works out for you. Lol
I don’t think his voice sounds bad at all, but damn I wish he would change the way he enunciates!
Listen to how he says “understand” in Brother the Cloud. Drives me nuts. He’s been doing it since Backspacer. But, I guess that’s just how he sings now.
I’m loving it too. Had a great conversation in line at the grocery store today with a stranger bc I was wearing my Earthlings hoodie. I think I may have sold her on the album 😂

Funny to see so much negative feedback but hey can’t please everyone, especially old school pj fans I guess haha
I’m only 27 and have been a super fan since 17 so maybe I’m not so jaded about Eddie’s voice, or how it’s too soft sounding, or how it’s all over the place, or too poppy or whatever else.
To me it’s just a master class by an aged rocker who still has a lot to offer this world musically. His voice is still great to me, the lyrics are unbelievably refreshing to me, and the sound is both unique and new while also uniquely Eddie.
But then again Eddie and company are literally my childhood heroes, always will be. I love these men, I love their music, and I love this forum for allowing us fans to debate all this shit!!
So thank you PJ, thank you moderators and pj workers, and mostly.. thank you mr Eddie fucking Jerome vedder!!!
Agreed, great to see another young fan enjoying the album as much as I am. I’m 29, started with PJ in 2006 and started following shows in 2010 at 18
That’s rad brother! Similar for me where I became obsessed around 2011 at age 17 and as soon as I had the chance gorged myself on PJ live shows
Went with my gf at the time to follow them on the 2013 tour and saw them 12 times, best time of my life. Was a ton to spend at that age, we were always the youngest people at the show haha but worth every penny! and older PJ fans got such a kick out of it haha
seen them like 4 times since, most recently at ohana, and it’s crazy to see some real young kids at the shows now! Like literal kids. I love it
this band brings people together, regardless of the little arguments on this forum- it all just brings this community closer together! It’s fun to debate and make lists and shit haha
Here’s hoping they keep making music and touring for years to come. Fucking legends man

If my comment was based solely on this single interaction, I would agree with you.
@1ThoughtKnown I think my message might have not come across here, but I was trying to agree with you on the original “you need some friends part”. 😏

Really enjoying this album. So much more than I anticipated. Honestly, I wasn't all that excited about it until I saw Eddie in Newark and I was just blown away by the live show and how some of the songs sounded. Been listening to the album now during the weekend and I just really like how they went for it. You can tell Eddie is just trying a bunch of shit he probably normally wouldn't try with Pearl Jam and wouldn't have tried on his own 15 years ago. He's testing the waters out and because of that the album can be described as "being all over the place" but I don't really see it in a negative way like that. It does have a lot of different sounds on it, but personally I find it really interesting. I think the production on the album is really solid as well. I just think it's really cool Eddie is still out here testing the waters and producing new shit. How many rock stars have hit his age and decided to just tour playing the same 20 songs that made them popular? Hell how many rock stars do that when they hit 35 let alone their 50s.
Brother the Cloud is such a clear standout to me. That song legit gives me goosebumps. The lyrics are Ed at his best and the musical arrangement is done so well. I think I would put this song up with any Ed song he's ever done and perhaps any Pearl Jam song done in the last 15 years. It's really peak Ed for me.

Thanks so much
He talks a bit about this also in the Bruce Springsteen interview at Amazonlive or Amazinmusic or what the site was. It was when he was rehearsing for that Vaccination benefit. Bruce is impressed with how the album originated and what came out if it.

I apologize for misinterpreting your comment! The limitations of written communication is you miss the visual and verbal clues. Thanks to you and @rustneversleeps for clarifying.
Watt is a 10c member, was at PJ20 and is a huge PJ fan. This according to a track by track review by The Rob. That’s a pretty awesome connection right there.
sorry to place this in between some discussion, but: I am
happy to have found this post as an outlet is needed again!.
Friday first thing, I got
the album. First listening left me very surprised but not excited (yet) ....there
were too many impressions at once, too many varieties of singing and music
mixtures. I just have had listened closely to Long Way before, so all of the rest
was new to me. Now, three days and many audio sessions later, the album made me
to write a post (again) as I feel blown away. The music now follows me all day
long, I woke up to some riffs, having melodies and lines come and go ever since… by now I am
really impressed of the excellent compositions/ creation of each song, all of them unique in its own – so many good new
rhythms, various styles, just like described in the interview with Bruce: rock, some
punk and folk and so much more. And on top you wonder about wise lyric lines, also
I do not get them fully- but that is what I like most about Ed’s
lyrics: they just make you think…
So by now I enjoy every song but my faves for now
are Invincible and Dark. Uhh, they really make me sing and dance!
And btw:
in my fave German newspaper’ (SZ) album review the journalist made a comparison
between "Invincible" and the voice/music style of a very famous German singer “Herbert
Groenemeyer”. And indeed Ed’s singing in
invincible is just very similar and it made me smile big times – but I wonder, how
would he know of any “Grönemeyer song”? So
it is still an Eddie song with his lyrics, so it is so much better and more
artful and by further listening not to compare at all anymore (sorry Herbert).
Well, so
all in all I am most happy about having gotten new music of my fave source. It
is not Pearl Jam but a solo project with the influence of other excellent musicians, playing their favourite instruments. And so, to me, this kind of project has turned out
in the best way, still authentic, but also a listening experience of its finest
that will now guide me to spring time- further singing and dancing ,,,.so
thanks again for the music!

...the world is come undone, I like to change it everyday but change don't come at once, it's a wave, building before it breaks.
Spending some time with the lyrics - fuck, Ed really knocks it out of the park again.
Lots of themes of hope, togetherness, love. Very much needed now. But without being corny.
I love that Invincible encourages togetherness and love in the face constant division.
Fallout Today and In The Dark address sadness and emotional weight, and how allowing yourself to share that pain with another can help lift some of the pain. These two really spoke to me - it’s tempting to keep sadness to yourself but in the end trying to fight that battle alone can be a losing one.
Brother the Cloud on how grief can bring a loved one to their knees. I’m drawing a further meaning but to me it shines a light on the party that suffers when a loved one ends their suffering - pain without healing never ends it just shifts around.
Rose of Jericho - it’s a plant from the Middle East, desert area that can apparently rejuvenate itself. I may need more time with this one but I’m feeling themes of life and regrowth despite less than habitable conditions.
Power of Right and Good Vs Evil to me scream frustrations with the selfish, destructive partners in relationships. Ed’s more angry outlet - love both of these.
Would love to hear other’s take on the lyrics!
