I say about 70% of Russians can go fuck themselves (if that is truly the number supporting this war).
Not be argumentative, but they are in an information bubble. I don't know how many Russians I hold responsible, ones that truly understand the nature of the aggression and are supportive of it. It's hard for us to understand that the country has never had any freedom. From the Czars, to the Soviet Union, to now. There was about a ten year window of 'freedom', but it was rife with corruption and the economy collapsed in the late 90s. Since then, back to a dictator. They simply have no concept of free.
But.. Fuck the fucking Kremlin, that's for fucking sure.
I mean, I hear what you are saying, then I see tons of stories about rape, torture, looting, etc and videos of Russian citizens supporting these actions…even intercepted phone calls of wives supporting their husbands doing these things. I have yet to find a reason to not hold a majority the Russian citizens somewhat accountable and worthy of these sanctions. Fuck them unless they revolt against Putler.

Yes there are plenty of Russians who are aware. I just don't know what that number is. But I also agree that they should revolt. Ukraine did it in 2014 and Russia has a long history of revolution. So yeah, my sympathy is pretty limited.

I agree, I wish the Russians would revolt and oust Putin and his ilk.
I wonder, what percentage of the Russian population would it take to revolt? Unfortunately (at least according to the Washington Post) 58% of Russians approve of the Ukraine invasion, while 23 oppose it. Of course, an a couple of equally good questions are, How did WAPO get those stats, and How accurate are they?
Interesting how we cheer vulgar political discourse elsewhere but then think that it's the downfall of society to see "Fuck Joe Biden" flags in the homeland.
Um, this isn't vulgar political discourse. This is saying Fuck off to a country that has invaded and committed war crimes. Hopefully you can clearly delineate the difference between political parties in the US and the Russo/Ukraine war.
This was sarcasm, right>?
Almost all acts of war and terror are political, including Putin's mythic quest to reunite Rus. So, yes, telling an opposing force during an act of war to "fuck off" is vulgar political discourse.
And no need to worry yourself about my ability to delineate differences between homeland politics and international politics. I thought that I sort of pointed that out in my post. But just to set your mind at ease, I won't be outraged when Volodymyr Zelenskyy isn't on my next US ballot.
I'm guessing that we love Ukrainians telling Russians to "fuck off" about as much as those who side with Russian policy love seeing "Fuck Joe Biden" flags in the US. Those same people might also think it's the downfall of society to see "Fuck Vlad Putin" flags flown in their homeland.
And for the record, I'm one of the people (the "we") I refer to in my post. I'm merely pointing out that the dissociation involved is interesting (to me at least).
If you don't think so, feel free to not comment -- or you could always take some advice from our favorite Snake Island gentlemen and scholars.
To your first sentence, telling an opposing military force to "fuck off" while they request that you surrender under threat of shelling or bombardment while your country with a democratically elected government is invaded is not "vulgar political discourse." Had the "fuck off" comment occurred on the floor of the Duma in a genteel debate about the merits of invading Ukraine, I might agree with you. As for Big Pappi mentioning or declaring, "this is our fucking city," how is that political? Did he run for mayor of Boston on that as a campaign slogan on a bumper sticker or yard sign?
To your third sentence, that might be a cogent argument if the "Fuck Joe Biden" flags and the "Fuck putin on the ritz" flags were both being flown in Moscow, or NYC's Brighton Beach or Miami's Sunny Isle Beach. If memory serves, no one here and certainly not me think that either of those things happening "think its the downfall of society."
To your fourth sentence, how is there or how has anyone who has posted here dissociated themselves? Try flying a "fuck putin on the ritz" banner or flag in Moscow and see how long it takes to be sent to the gulag. As far as I know, Hillary, Obama or Brandon haven't had anyone arrested, detained or imprisoned for flying a "Fuck Joe Biden" sign or banner. However, I do know of a woman being arrested and detained in Moscow for holding a blank sign in protest. I guess, in your mind, those things are close enough but not quite the same and it all makes for an interesting observation?
Now excuse me while I breathlessly run to type disingenuous, bad faith arguments for pages on end. And I could give two fucks if "anyone gets something out of "it."
More things I view as political discourse that you may not since none of those involved ever ran for office (AFAIK).
Do you consider these “vulgar” political discourse or just political discourse? Further, if one doesn’t read, look or listen to any of the mediums you posted, how is it discourse? And political at that?
Some may just view or comprehend any of those as just expressions of art, a painting, literature, a book of historical import open to interpretation or music to get a groove on to or not. Ask an average 8 or 16 year old what any of those mean to them and their answer is likely to be vastly different than your crusty old asses observation. And they’d likely be different a year, 5, 10, 15, 20 or 100 years from now as well.
Interesting how we cheer vulgar political discourse elsewhere but then think that it's the downfall of society to see "Fuck Joe Biden" flags in the homeland.

Are you same-saming? Sssssssssssssssssss!
To the unobjective reader, I guess it will always appear so.
Maybe "This is our fucking city," a vulgar political response that nearly everyone rallied behind after a couple of kids blew up some folks in Boston, is a better corollary to the Snake Island salute. But for the record, none of these things are the same, and I never intimated nor even implied that that they were so.
That was all inferred.
They are in a similar category the way that ice hockey and baseball are both sports or humans and lobsters are both animals.
But I guess I must've displayed an astounding inability to distinguish nuance here in the past to have been so misinterpreted.
That “shit” that was blown up were human beings.
Nice to see you focused on the main point of the post.
Thanks, though.
Edited for empathy.
In the interest of political discourse, I thought it was worth pointing out. I’ll reply to your broader points after I clean the Cheeto residue from my fingertips.
Cool. I hope someone reads it and gets something out of it.
If you can finally see that pointing out correlations is a very different thing from saying that those correlatives are the exact same thing (and then breathlessly running with that disingenuous, bad faith argument for pages on end), I may eat my oldest flyswatter Boston Red Sox baseball cap.
those correlations are so far apart though, and commenting how ironic it was that people are bothered by one and not by the other was intentionally making them appear closer together than they actually are.
Another inference.
I merely said that I found it interesting. I also find it interesting that lobsters and human beings both turn red in boiling water.
I actually don't post here to argue.
I tried to look that up, couldn’t find much on what happens to people when you drop them in boiling water. Surprisingly there aren’t that many studies on it. Are you referring to the red from a burn? I would think when properly cooked, like a lobster, the red is gone and we’d be a brown or gray. Like if you’ve ever cooked chicken with the skin still on.

Ha! I’d never heard that before, it’s actually real? The waist is too small, pockets too short, they cut his nuts and rub his taint, but they’re the best pair of pants he owns? I’d hate to see what a bad pair does.

It’s real. I heard it when the National Archives released his records after his presidential library or whoever he left his “history” to released them. I laughed my ass off. The poor tailor on the end of that phone. A movie script couldn’t do it justice. Just hilarious. See? POTUS is just like us. Well, most anyway.

Putin says Russia's "noble" war on Ukraine to enter new phase with peace talks at "dead end" as atrocities mount
Kyiv — Russia's response to international outrage over Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine has been to double down on propaganda. In the recaptured town of Bucha, north of Kyiv, Ukrainian investigators are exhuming body bags from mass graves as part of a war crimes investigation. But in Russia, Putin once again lied to his people about what's really happening in the war.
CBS News correspondent Chris Livesay reports that while the dust settles in and around the capital in the wake of the Russian forces' retreat, Ukraine's president is warning his people that the war is only entering a new stage of terror, with atrocities against civilians following every Russian bootprint.
Hi! My name is Mat, and i'm have a biziness oppurtunities for you Mr. Juggler. If you like lots of monies send me your’re personal information so we can get start right away.
I'm thinking it has to do with going off topic, for which I am partly responsible and apologize for. Been on a bit of a social media shaming tour as of late. Your new thread should provide a place to contain that.
but usually when there's a posting content issue, the mods say something about it to try to contain it. no comments. just locked, then unlocked, then locked, then unlocked.
