Start meaning Spring of 2020? They've already told us the reason they didn't recommend masks initially was because there was a shortage and the front line workers didn't have enough at the time. 

They fucked up huge. It was embarrassing for anyone that had any idea about PPE.

I don’t know about evil intent. Just a consequential statement from someone who should have known better. Or was there a smoking gun study that was conducted between 3/8/20 and 4/3/20 that led to a complete 180 in his understanding of the effectiveness of masks? If the goal was to save supply for front line workers then maybe he should of just said it, trying to back track his statement with that after the fact is chicken shit. That or he truly learned more in those 4 weeks than he had in his previous half century. Which seems more plausible?

If the message had been masks help, but we need to save them for healthcare workers, does anyone believe the public would have heeded that request? Hell no. I hate that we were lied to but just imagine the panic buying, or attempting to buy masks and then the ensuing freaking out about not being able to find them. Pure chaos. Remember how people panic bought TP?

this is why, if it was a lie, it doesn't bother me. as much as I hate that our society has to play by the rules of the stupidest, selfish people, I completely understood why they lied. because, as the toilet paper fiasco of 2020 showed us, a global health crisis doesn't bring out the kumbaya in many people.

i'm getting a bit tired of this overdramatic "let's compare the sacrifice of going to war with something in everyday life". it's akin to my parents telling me to stuff myself at dinner because there are kids starving in africa. is it true? yes, but one has zero to do with the other, and that action has zero effect of change on the other. sacrificing in combat to a tangible foe is quite different than what you perceive as an minor inconvenience in your daily life. there's examples of people not "sacrificing" in daily life all over the place; not holding open doors, not letting an older person go ahead of you in line, cutting someone off in traffic. people in the US have been beaten over the head with "individual freedom" their entire lives. now we suddenly expect everyone to fall in line. it just wasn't ever going to happen. expecting to is and was naive. (and it's not just the US, there's anti maskers all over)

if someone doesn't believe a mask works, partly due to the fact that the messaging was flawed from the start, they aren't going to see it as a viable sacrifice they need to make. do I? yes. but a lot don't. 

if we're going to compare everything in life to the sacrifice made by veterans, we're in for an unattainable measuring stick at life.

Think about it though. How many VPs stand up and publicly contradict the CEO? Or quit on principle, particularly when it’s not the shareholders who are losing?

Are people more outraged today over Dr. Ouchie than POOTWH? Two years on? Is there no benefit of hind sight and realization that it was a major clusterfuck because of who inhabited the Oval Office? Who here wiped down their groceries? Surfaces? Guess what? That wasn’t necessary either as later understanding provided. The POOTWH Boor glowered and stared at every press conference and regularly interrupted speakers who were trying to explain things but Dr. Ouchie got it wrong on masks in the initial months of the pandemic. Almost 2 years on, who should replace Dr. Ouchie? 

This scenario would lesson his credibility more than the two I proposed, imo. If he was ignoring the facts in an attempt to please trump then I’d say someone with a spine would be a good replacement. I expect a little more integrity coming from his position, if this was the case.

Was there anyone with a spine in the POOTWH Administration? Hell, the repub party certainly doesn’t have a spine. All in all, in the totality of Dr. Ouchie’s service during the pandemic, is it fair, to be faaaaaaaaair, to judge him on one statement during the time and in the context of what we know now about the virusssss and the POOTWH Administration? Remember, this was a POTUS and an Administration that prided itself on its narcissism and turning conventional wisdom  upside down before throwing it out the window, spitting on it and stomping on it, before taking a shit on it and lighting it on fire.

I expect very little from any politician, you should know that. I place more importance on those whose position doesn’t aim to appeal to only a portion of the population.

Who hired Dr. Ouchie to serve in the capacity that he did for POOTWH? Why aren’t you blaming them for their obviously poor hiring decision?

I don’t know about evil intent. Just a consequential statement from someone who should have known better. Or was there a smoking gun study that was conducted between 3/8/20 and 4/3/20 that led to a complete 180 in his understanding of the effectiveness of masks? If the goal was to save supply for front line workers then maybe he should of just said it, trying to back track his statement with that after the fact is chicken shit. I never said he was a poor decision or has done a bad job. The fact is he made a statement and it backfired, even after he changed his tune. Once the anti-mask crowd adopted it, the damage was done. If you don’t think it mattered or played a role, that’s fine, but there is this groovy new social media fad that is rotting peoples minds and it seems things travel very fast on it. Oh, and apparently everything you see on there is true!

Basically, this illustrates a larger point beyond Covid and politics etc.
