    Just getting caught up on this thread. I would t think that drover has a case. He pulled the gun out way before anything happened. That to me shows intent. I also found it odd he seemed very casual up until he was pulling the trigger

    California bill would allow citizens to enforce weapons ban

    SAN DIEGO (AP) — A new bill in California would allow private citizens go after gun makers in the same way Texas lets them target abortion providers, though gun advocates immediately promised a court challenge if it becomes law.

    Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday backed legislation that would let private citizens enforce the state’s ban on assault weapons. It’s modeled after a Texas law that lets private citizens enforce that state’s ban on abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected.

    Newsom said he hopes the proposal forces the U.S. Supreme Court’s hand on the Texas abortion law. He said it will either expose their “hypocrisy” if they should block California’s proposal that affects the gun industry and not the Texas law on abortion, “or it’ll get them to reconsider the absurdity of their previous decision.”

    “There is no principled way the U.S. Supreme Court cannot uphold this California law. None. Period full stop. It is quite literally modeled after the law they just upheld in Texas,” Newsom said.

    Another “responsible” gun owner.

    A father fatally shot his three daughters and one other person before killing himself in a Sacramento church Monday, law enforcement officials said.

    The girls were 9, 10 and 13, authoritiestold reporters. The fourth victim was supervising the 39-year-old father’s visit with his daughters, Sacramento County Sheriff Scott Jones confirmed. It is unclear whether the person was a social worker or affiliated with the church.

    a distant relative lost her daughter to accidental poisoning (drank turpentine that was in an old vodka bottle), her son to suicide, and her husband to cancer. understandably, she became a raging alcoholic. she's been sober for many years now. courageous woman....

    The proliferation of guns in America is obviously a major problem and one big reason why these tragedies happen.  Another reason is because so many of our large cities are essentially becoming marginally uninhabitable at best- at least in terms of being environments for the sound of mind.  Our nearest beg city, Sacramento (or as Jello Biafra referred to it in a conversation we had 5 or 6 years ago, "Excremento") is such a place. Other than a few of the higher rent districts like "the fabulous 40s" the place is a crime infested dump that simply breads insanity and leads to the kind of act that occurred last night, leaving innocent victims dead or bleeding on the ground.  Welcome to America's latest war zone.

    I've always been anti-gun.  But the self-defense argument is starting to creep into my conscience.  The news sensationalizes everything, but man it seems like every day you read about someone getting attacked but someone that is out of their mind.   

    These mass shootings are terrible.   We think the US is so great, and in many ways it is.  But the gun culture and the violence it contributes to is an embarrassment.

    I have never thought for a single second of my life that the US is great. There are so many greater countries for personal safety, education, healthcare, civil rights, etc. 

    I would modify that to “we are indoctrinated from birth with propaganda to make us think that the US is so great….”
