so what is the deal with Josh Klinghoffer?

when I said "lead vocals" I mean he is background, but singing the same as Ed, in case Ed needs a short breather to fill in the gaps.Spiritual_Chaos said:
You can see in the clips him having drums set up, and I think a keyboard behind him and him obviously singing etc.HughFreakingDillon said:I bet he's not just for guitars....I think he's jack of all trades type of thing; percussion, backing vocals, maybe some lead vocals when ed needs a break, and Ed's third guitar parts if he just wants to sing.
I think it is extremely far fetched to believe they would let him do lead vocals.. come on now people.
How would that work? Unless it's a "Matt singing Black Diamond" kind of thing... "wouldn't it be fun if we did ABBA:s SOS and have the new kid sing the parts Pierce Brosnan PERFECTED in the Mama Mia! movie?"0 -

One thing I've never thought necessary was a 5th guy singing backing vocals or a 4th guitar playing power chords. There is already plenty in the mix. This just seems unnecessary.6/26/98, 8/17/00, 10/8/00, 12/8/02, 12/9/02, 4/25/03, 5/28/03, 6/1/03, 6/3/03, 6/5/03, 6/6/03, 6/12/03, 6/13/03, 6/15/03, 6/18/03, 6/21/03, 6/22/03, 7/12/03, 7/14/03, 10/3/04, 10/5/04, 9/9/05, 9/11/05, 9/16/05, 5/16/06, 5/17/06, 5/19/06, 6/30/06, 7/23/06, 8/5/07, 6/30/08, 8/23/09, 8/24/09, 5/4/10, 5/7/10, 9/3/11, 9/4/11, 10/11/13, 10/17/14, 8/20/160

My guess is he'll be real low in the mix (like boom usually is) which makes it seem again, unneccessary. But yes we will see!2-feign-reluctance said:

Did he play guitar throughout the set? If he plays the 'third' guitar on some songs allowing Eddie not to play, it could lead to better vocals. Jeff/Stone/Mike can make noise with their mouths that can pass as backing vocals, but Matt is really the only one that is qualified to my ears. On top of that, if he's adding percussion or other sounds/instruments for certain songs to better capture/present the sound the band wants, I'm for it. I guess I don't see a downside as long as it continues to be a support/background role.0

There are bands sometimes that have someone below the stage or somewhere that provides additional music.I miss igotid880

i was 5/6 people off the rail, dead center in front of Ed. very odd people don't think Josh's addition is a good thing. Ed isn't getting any younger, he can play a ton of parts on multiple instruments and he seemed very into it. Mike/Jeff were interacting with him all show. plus, it was only for a portion of the set (mainly the newer stuff). chill outBeacon '08

Most of the people complaining didn't even watch it or did watch and didn't notice until it was reported. And if they didn't notice it means it didn't affect the show in the negativeI miss igotid880

The Klinghoffer haters are probably still waiting for Dave A to come back too"Well, I think this band is incapable of sucking."

Personally, no, certainly not 15 or 20 of those years. I have noticed Ed’s vocals change over the last decade. He still sounds great overall but certain things he can struggle with over the course of show/tour - high notes, sustain. Also, many songs on BS and LB didn’t translate live, IMO. Gigaton songs sounded great overall. Again, what’s the downside of Josh?NewJPage said:

With the exception of the people within the first 150 feet or so of the stage, if Ed hadn’t announced that Josh was helping out, the rest of the audience probably would have had no idea that he was even there. I thought he was a nice addition though and they used him well. The background vocals sounded good and I liked the slightly slowed down tempo of some of the songs (corduroy, present tense, even flow).0
