This is a step in the right direction, but there’s a giant leap between the distanced type of event outlined in the article and the bash on the beach that SHN would be. Continuing to hope for the best and expect the worst...

Whether or not it’s permissible for them to hold SHN in September, is anyone else having kind of a hard time imagining Pearl Jam’s first show back being a festival set?
I mean a 2 hour set sounds not great....until Bruce walks out and says "I'm paying for the overtime." (they then proceed to play for another 2 hours with fireworks going off at 1 am).

Yes. COVID changed everything. The band has essentially had 3 wasted years in a way at this point since they took a well deserved break in 2019 and we all know about 2020.
I don’t think they will be worried as much going forward about “this show needs to be first then that show”
Playing a show won’t ever be taken for granted again, and if they are able to play outdoors in Asbury Park this fall, they are going to jump all over it

I think it would be a great opportunity to get the new songs out there.
22 song setlist.... 8 from Gigaton, 14 greatest hits.
I dont even need a "rarity" , they can play Even Flow 3 times, what ever, I don't care. If the band gets on stage again, I am THERE

I’d be down for a tight, PJ focused setlist a la Hyde Park.
Less interested in the current format of covers, special guests, coming on stage whenever they feel like it while we stand around, etc. But I understand if that’s where they are right now.
Maybe a tight time slot will encourage them to get down to business.

That's a good point....It would be odd to see them fired up, crowd going nuts, and then to have to shut it down at 2 hours like a normal live band.
Two hours of live pearl jam sounds just fine to me. I will never understand why people throw shade at festival sets. 2 hours is better than 0.
I said it would be odd, not that I would not rejoice to see it. In general, if you go and see four shows on a tour and one of them is a festival show it is pretty obvious which one is going to be the least favorite, for me. I loved Global and Made In America....had a blast at both....but those are not top Pearl Jam sets, to me.

Global and Made in America are bottom tier shows for me. However playing on the beach at the Jersey shore in the fall has some real potential.

Had a great time at both....but yeah, they may be the lowest two shows if I were to rank. The Parkway and Central Park were two absolutely amazing places to see Pearl Jam and I would not trade them. I am sure the beach would be great as well, if that happens.
I get it but I actually think a big blow out with fireworks at the beach would the perfect way to bring live pearl jam back, even though I prefer those long indoor shows from my reserved 10c seats.
Normally I’d pass on the festival stop(s) on a tour but if SHN is the first show back I wouldn’t miss it for anything.

MADBALL Headlines Massive Hardcore Show At New York City's Tompkins Square Park :
After 14 months in lockdown, hardcore shows have officially returned to Tompkins Square Park in New York City. MADBALL headlined a concert at the East Village outdoor venue on Saturday (April 24), with support from MURPHY'S LAW, BLOODCLOT (former CRO-MAGS frontman John Joseph) and THE CAPTURERS. Donations were being accepted at the all-ages, daytime event, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the New York Firefighters Burn Center Foundation.
Last month, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that beginning April 2, live performance venues in the state would be able to open indoor spaces at 33 percent capacity or up to 100 people indoors and 200 people outdoors. If all attendees present proof of a negative coronavirus test prior to entry, capacity can increase to 150 people indoors and 500 people outdoors, according to the state.
Earlier today, Joseph took to his Facebook to push back against the criticism over the fact that the crowds at yesterday's concert did not appear to be adhering to social distancing guidelines and were not wearing face masks. He wrote: "Yesterday in Tompkins Square Park well over 2000 peeps came out. Free show for the People by the People. It was a blast! We raised $ for the FDNY Burn Unit, and fed people organic plant based eats.
"And let me say this - to all those talking shit. For the last year in NYC there were protests - tens and thousands of people in the streets - some rioting and looting engaging in bias attacks - on 4/20 weed day - thousands filled Washington Square Park - sharing blunts and weed pipes. Nobody said shit. This was our PROTEST - OUR RALLY. People who didn't want to come - stayed away. Good - nobody missed their ass.
"Wanna thank Cousin Joe and The Black-n-Blue crew for doing an amazing job. All the bands killed it THE CAPTURES, WISDOM AND CHAINS, MURPHY'S LAW, and the KINGS of NYHC MADBALL. PMA was had - smiling faces everywhere - we all needed this! I hope other cities do the same."
An hour later, Joseph also tweeted: "We had close to 3000 people at the show yesterday in Tompkins Square Park - Everyone had a great time - thank you to all the bands that played and thanks to all those who came out I live streamed it for those who couldn't make it".
Anyone know if GA+ is worth splurging for on Ticketmaster Exchange vs. GA? Does it get you any closer or just AC bathrooms?
All the benefits of the General Admission ticket above, plus:
A private lounge with seating
Private, air-conditioned restrooms
Full-service bar with beer, wine and cocktails for purchase
For my two cents, access to a private lounge with seating at a festival is golden. Still bitter with my wife for talking me out of the top VIP package at GCF - could have had beers with Ed, Common, and Bill Nye backstage! Instead I sat on the hard ground in our VIP area through flipping Ed Sheeran and other schlock, which was only VIP because we were up close - not much else about it was VIP based on what I could see.
For a regular show I would say it is not worth it but for a festival there are likely to be acts you don't give a crap about and having a place to go and chill during that is worth quite a bit.

Usually this tier nonsense is all bullshit.
To me it seems the benefit here would be the bar, but I feel that's all a gimmick since everyone else who buys this ticket feels the same way and will end up waiting in a line for a drink anyway.
Best seat at any festival is in the wayyyyy back where no one's crammed the fuck up and has that one beer tent that no one's patronizing.
I also want to be able to sit or stand with my feet in the ocean (pronounced oh-ew-shin, in Delco-ese) while listening to Pearl Jam, otherwise this whole goddamn show is laaaaame. And, of course, that's if this show actually happens, as I still believe it won't while looking forward to gladly being proven wrong.
