Yeah that's a real eye roller......  First of all, people shouldn't come into work when they are ill to begin with but in light of current events its completely asinine and shows a total disregard for common sense and other people's well being.  I don't know if I'm as much upset that she is sick or that someone could be that stupid.  Probably a little bit of both.  Now is clearly not the time to throw caution to the wind.

Innings festival went without a hitch. Spring training baseball games have been packed. Life goes on unabated. More and more concerts are being announced. March madness will go on. NBA and NHL arenas are loaded, and XFL continues to draw attendance.  Just the facts.

    That’s the most shocking part.

Some employers are part of the problem. I’ve been told to suck it up before. The breaking point for me was as a teacher I came in, told my supervisor right away that I wasn’t doing well and was there to just make sub plans and go (which was the protocol at the time, we didn’t have an online system). I was told not to go home that they wouldn’t get anyone to cover my class and to stick it out until at least nutrition break, 2 hours into the day, and see if I can stay. I know they were assuming if I stayed 2 hours I’d stay the whole day.
Reluctantly I did. I felt so bad at break I walked into the office and said I will not be coming back that day. I went straight to urgent care, had 104 fever and pneumonia.
They realized their mistake because after a week I tried to come back, they made me take a whole 2 weeks off and get seen before returning. I know 100% that was just CYA for not letting me go sooner.

Nutrition break? I’m curious, do many people reference it like that or was it said jokingly?

I have to assume it’s the same as lunch time?

    Our schedule went
    2 hours of class
    20 minute nutrition
    2 hours of class
    lunch
    2 hours of class
    Happy hour.

They served breakfast during nutrition. I’m pretty sure it’s state law to offer 2 hot meals to students during the day. A lot do it before school, we just did it 2 hours in.

i also assume it saved money by only having food service there a few hours. If you do it during nutrition and lunch you only have food service there for 4 or 5 hours.
if you had them get there before school to serve food it would be an all day gig

This article states wolf parade canceled their euro tour, for now. Think, for the netherlands, it's the 1st band to do so:

It’s their decision of course but to me that seems over the top. The club they’re supposed to play in hamburg fits 550 people and it isn’t even sold out. There are no government restrictions in most states yet, even the most restrictive one in Switzerland only says anything over 1.000 is off for now

    Context matters!

Also Smashing Pumpkins just announced an April/May tour. Still plenty of time to be cancelled on that one but interesting that big bands are still booking for the spring the way the news is. This is positive news imo!

Take comfort in the fact that it was going to be 36 lines after March but that’s really looking in Jeopardy now.  So you might be spared.

I know super annoying right? (the signature). Pick the little setting wheel and select 'edit profile. There is a signature tab and then select 'Hide signatures always'. Just found out about this recently. very satisfying.

Done.  Some people just like to complain without offering any suggestion or help that could help alleviate the issue.  Appreciate the tip.

Lol believe me I sometimes say Wow 32 shows and friends and family often call me crazy for it.  I’m obviously a pretty big fan since Day 1 with this band and I’ve remained faithful.  Truth is I’ve met many a people that put my 32 shows to shame.

In the quoted post from fema they most certainly did.

  • If you can't tell by my post count, I don't do the social media thing very much. One of the main reasons is that it's so hard to sift through the bullshit and fear mongering in attempts to make you either click something or buy something.  Sometimes I miss the old blissfully ignorant days.. like when I wouldn't even know Wuhan China existed unless I went to the old encyclopedia or atlas and looked in the W section. Back then I feel like something like this would fizzle out without ever being sensationalized - life would go on without the unnecessary fear.  Now it's shoved down your throat and information tends to travel by whatever's news worth (aka fear worthy).

Unfortunately social media has the ability to pressure groups and politicians into making rash decisions.  Fortunately, along with public perception, those same politicians are also just as concerned with money.  I just hope they realize the amount of money to their economy that would be lost will be enough to out weight needing to gain public perception by imposing ridiculous large gathering/travel bans (ex the CDN government felt the public pressure on the railroad barricades until ultimately the money spoke. I know that also caused some panic around here).

I do have some experience in microbiology so I can appreciate the impact that bacteria and viruses can have. I understand that quarantine is necessary for some cases/areas with inadequate health care but some statements I've seen recently seem a bit over the top. I believe certain demographics need to be more cautious with their exposure to ANY strain of bacteria/virus but to blanket this treatment to the mass population is nuts.

It's not hard to find some quick info to ease my mind, I just hope others are as critically thinking as we need to be in this era.

    We've all survived the deadly outbreaks of the past but do you remember just how deadly they were?  Just a couple of quick stats;
    • SARS had a fatality rate that was 5 times what the COVID rate is at this stage.  Squashed out within months with any major disruptions.
    • H1N1 killed over 12,000 people in the US during the first year in transmission, infected 60 million in the US, and hospitalized a quarter million of them.  It spread so quickly we just gave up and it's now just another seasonal flu that circulates.  Not sexy enough for the media anymore though.
    • Speaking of the flu, it's killed at least 18,000 Americans so far THIS season according to the CDC.
Wash your hands and don't be afraid to live your life. Read into things and you'll realized that the US cases/deaths hitting the news this week are all from the same nursing home in the Seattle area which is now refusing visitors. To my knowledge, most nursing homes have similar protocol when the common flu/cold hit their complex due to the age and compromised immune system of residents. The media likes to leave those details out of the headline though.

If you don't understand a story then please don't make statements like "NCAA is considering playing to empty stadiums" when there is only a group lobbying for that to happen. Or that one guy thinks the Olympics shouldn't go on.  Some people believe this shit and run with it.. that's when we see things snow ball and the old school game of telephone happens.

I'll be at my shows and travelling both worry & mask free.  I'll do my best not to take advantage this hype and use a few fake coughs/sneezes to gain more personal space in the airports/pit but no promises  :)

You had me until you compared it to the flu, a virus we know much more about and have a vaccine for.  The fear of Corona is the unknown, but yeah in a few months it will most likely have faded away.

Just long enough to potentially derail parts of the tour. I’m locked and loaded for 3 shows in Spring and the hopes of more in Fall, so I sure hope not. The trajectory of this in the media, whether warranted or not, is not looking good so far.

Take comfort in the fact that it was going to be 36 lines after March but that’s really looking in Jeopardy now.  So you might be spared.

As long as there will be editing, getting MSG out of the plural and into the singular would be much appreciated!

     Impressive list!

In regards to March Madness, yes an outside group recommended that NCAA consider playing in empty arenas.  You are right.  Clearly it is silly to suggest the NCAA is actually considering all the options.
