How's it going there Bri? Glad to see ya hanging in there, although the horses didn't quite do it for me!
Doing well, Tish. How are you?
I though the horse race thing was funny but I'm actually against the idea of horse racing. I went the races for the first time ever a couple of years ago with my wife and sister. While we were there, my sister was looking up stuff on her smart phone that she shared with me. When I read about the dangers to the horses and the abuse of some of them, I said, "Never again!"
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
I only caught the headline. Must subscribe* to WA Post to Read.
*(I've thought about doing so but I already have NY Times and The Guardian.)
I clipped the lede for ya below. Beyond that, it basically smells like a couple political consultants thought they could make a bunch of money off this situation and got in way over their heads. Used their political connections to try and get deals like this and probably didn't even know if they could deliver. That's my read anyway.

Thanks for the copy and past, pjl. Yeah, I think you got it right.
Haven't heard as much about PPE lately. I'm guessing there is still quite a need for more.

Reopening states will cause 233,000 more people to die from coronavirus, according to Wharton model
According to the Penn Wharton Budget Model (PWBM), reopening states will result in an additional 233,000 deaths from the virus — even if states don’t reopen at all and with social distancing rules in place. This means that if the states were to reopen, 350,000 people in total would die from coronavirus by the end of June, the study found.
Watching the noon news today, they were showing thousands of people congratulating in close quarters, many without masks, in a non-permitted protest demanding to end restrictions and open businesses. I support the right to protest- that is an important concept of democracy- but I can't understand how foolish these people are putting themselves and others at risk.
At the end of hiss daily COVID-19 update today, during the question and answer period Governor Newsom was asked to respond to the protests and he really kept his cool, emphasizing the good work that has been done to flatten the curve in this state, reminding people that this is not a partisan issue, that we're all affected by it. He kept his cool so amazingly well. I would not be able to do that. Newsom is working hard in the best interest of residents of this state. Yet people call him a tyrant and and ego maniac. Where do they get that? They must not be following the updates. I get go damned pissed off by fools who don't practice safe measures around this virus. How the hell can people be so stupid? I don't get it.
The one in Huntington Beach? I just saw that on the news as well. Massive number of people, no masks, no social distancing. Orange County should see another spike in a couple of weeks.
Yes, Jeff, Huntington Beach and now today on the steps of the state Capitol:
theres that yellow chickenhawk flag again.
It's a shame that the Don't Tread On Me flag has become what it is. It's a great flag.
I'm unsure why all these "no vaccine" articles and interviews starting popping up. There has been nothing but good news on that front. Certainly still a risk, but we've had reports of multiple vaccines in human study that we successful in other tests.

Doesn’t sound like it’s the result of reopening then. They are contradicting their title by saying the same number will die if we reopen or not.

There is legitimately a wide range of outcomes and many articles don't do a great job of framing the likelihood of whatever outcome they're discussing. I haven't read this article in particular, but based on everything else I've read.
There is also a professional ego aspect to this. You can find a doctor or scientist to take pretty much any angle and happily deliver it with confidence. Talking to one of the Oxford researchers? "We have seen AMAZING results and I am CONFIDENT we will hit every endpoint." Talking to another virologist? "There has YET to be any coronavirus vaccine and I have no doubt these efforts will ultimately FAIL." I'm exaggerating a little obviously, but I don't always trust that a reporter is scrutinizing what they're being told because they view the subject as an expert.
I tell people this story now whenever they want to reopen things or that it's a conspiracy or what have you.
We buried my Aunt at St Josephs cemetery here in Queens last week and one thing I noticed immediately was all the open graves and how many caskets that were being moved around, the line of Hearse's in the entrance.
Never in my life have I seen a cemetery this busy before. It was eerie to see that many graves dug open...
Just because you aren't experiencing what we are here in NY doesn't mean that it's not serious.
I understand that the country is breaking and I don't have an answer for people but there is most definitely bad shit happening and we are in lock down for a reason.

There is so much empty space next to the Ramadan mass, they have a safe option right next to their mass.
The lockdown protesters? Not in the picture but perhaps it is posssible.
even trump has now acknowledged 2 million could’ve died. Not sure what science exists that past tense is proper but it’s a start for him.
looks like there will be an eventual thinning of the herd. Maybe this is nature’s protection against fake news.

I did. It’s poorly written at best, to me looks like click bait to contradict your title within the first 2 paragraphs.
That is the only mention of total deaths, it talks about a couple of states and also mentions a partial reopen will kill 46,000, a smaller number than if we stayed closed. So still doesn’t make sense.
