Yesterday my 39 year old neighbor died from covid. His husband is still in the house recovering alone. His family is sending him messages through the front door and yelling up at the window but can’t hug him for fear of spread. It’s literal hell on earth.
i'm so sorry Joe.  that is terrible.

Was he suffering from preexisting conditions?

I've got high blood pressure.  Not sure if that warrants me to be in that category but I am still worried.

Well just did a quick read and my high blood pressure is bad for this.

I have been told by doctors that I have a strong immune system though so we shall see.

After work on Sunday around 3:30-4am I tried to go to beach or just to see the ocean here in Palm Beach. ALL access to the beach was closed, to the point where I could not even see the ocean. I drove back home bummed out, it's been 2+ weeks since I've seen the ocean.

I think the only I'll probably get to see it is to ride my bicycle there.

None that I know of. Two people very close to me have high blood pressure. It’s not ideal but it’s not the worst of the conditions.

I only knew him by saying hi when walking by. Can’t shake the conversation I heard yesterday with his family though.

Rough stuff, man.  I'm sorry to hear.  This is one of the most unbearable aspects of this disease.  The families of patients that fall critically ill or worse cannot even see their loved ones.  That's a brutal situation.

I don't go on FB or any other social networking but I did this morning. I read some the simple requests from people just miles from me really shows what desperate situations people are currently in.

Since I'm a food specialist at BJ'S I'd like to offer picking up food or other needs I can get my hands at the club. It's the least I think I can do for others in great need. My family for sure are going to be pissed with me though.

So one of my best friends has it. Caught it at the prison he works at. Said he had only one really bad day where he felt like death, but has overall been fine. Couple notable things...

-Despite having it, he never had a cough, and only ran a fever that one day he was really bad.

-Since contracting it about 10 days ago, he hasn’t had a sense of smell or taste.

-Though he had just one day of unbearable symptoms, a co-worker of his who also caught the virus (who is younger and healthier than my friend) has been on the shelf for a week, barely able to get out of bed.

-He said the test (swabs up your nose) hurts like hell.
Sorry to hear about your friend.
i read the first few sentences thinking we were still talking about a bidet and was very confused.
ive also heard the test is a nightmare.

So, If you have high BP like me there might be a lnk to the Covid cases and ACE inhibitors.  I do not take one to regulate my BP so that is good news for me, possibly.

A list of ACE inhibitors for those that do not know what they are.  Please check the list.
    https://www.medicinenet.com/ace_inhibitors/article.htm#are_there_any_differences_among_the_different_types_of_ace_inhibitors

However, the jury is still out on whether or not they contribute to the problems that you can face with getting Covi-19.

Here is a perspective from someone who doesn’t get wrapped up in rooting for one side or the other. Why did we not already have a plan in place for how to handle a worldwide pandemic? A no questions asked, exact course of action type of plan. Seems to me like that might be something our government should have given some thought about well before Trump even had the idea of running for office. Our last administration saw what the swine flu pandemic could do, and that was with a understanding of how to combat the H1N1 virus already. There were microbiologists predicting something like this current coronavirus pandemic with uncanny accuracy years ago. I have attached a review from the American Society for Microbiology published back in October of 2007 for reference along with the very accurate portion in a screenshot. No president should have to make up a plan on the fly when it comes to the safety of our country. Sorry, but this shit falls squarely on the inability of our government and not having their priorities straight long ago. Republican or Democrat it doesn’t matter, while all they care about is pointing fingers and acting like fucking children measures could have been taken. You don’t have to like Trump, and he undoubtedly says some off the wall things but the blame for this should be directed elsewhere. When do we stop letting our government divide us and start holding them accountable instead of spreading hate amongst each other? People just can’t seem to see the forest for the trees. ....ummmmm.....

Before Trump’s inauguration, a warning: ‘The worst influenza pandemic since 1918’
In a tabletop exercise days before an untested new president took power, officials briefed the incoming administration on a scenario remarkably like the one he faces now.

    https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/16/trump-inauguration-warning-scenario-pandemic-132797

Trump admin was briefed on a possible pandemic driving transition by the outgoing Obama administration. Trump disbanded the National Security Council pandemic unit. Trump dropped the ball on the response.

Stop with the both sides are bad bullshit.  Trump administration single handedly fucked America on this one.
My whole point is we dropped the ball as a country by not having an existing immediate response plan. One that doesn’t change unless it is being amended and is standard protocol regardless of who is in the White House. If these parameters are met then follow these guidelines, does that not sound like something that should have already been achieved at some point in our governments history? Every election is a gamble and this would aid in making sure losing bets don’t make catastrophic mistakes. I should have known better than to use the trigger word because that is all many of you get hung up on. Nowhere did I state he was doing a good job or was void of some responsibility, I also never said Obama was at fault. Placing the blame on one person for the state of any government is just silly. I simply feel it is ridiculous that our country and many others were totally caught off guard and didn’t have mandatory protocol already in place, ready to implement. If you can’t see this as a preexisting issue that is every bit as culpable, then maybe as someone commented we do live on different planets. My hope is we learn from our mistakes because all we should be focused on is being better prepared in the future. You can go back to your hive mind mentality believing every Democratic run government was perfect from 1828 to present. Fuck, that is some strong Kool-Aid.

Spring 2018: Trump disbanded the pandemic response team assembled under President Obama during the ebola outbreak of 2014.

July 2019: The Trump admin let go of Linda Quick, a CDC epidemiologist stationed in Beijing whose role was designed to help China detect and respond to outbreaks.

January 2020: The Department of Health and Human Services deployed several federal workers to help Americans evacuated from China... without the proper training or protective gear.

February 2020: Trump downplayed the threat of COVID-19 in multiple public statements, dissuading Americans from acting vigilantly.

    March 2020:

    - Trump repeatedly lied and made promises he didn't keep as COVID-19 continued to spread.

** On March 6, he assured us that the CDC's testing kits were both plentiful and reliable.

** Then he said that leading health insurance companies would be waiving co-pays for coronavirus treatments.

** Later that same week, he promised that we would soon see COVID-19 testing "on a very large scale basis". Two weeks later, we're STILL seeing shortages of basic testing supplies.

When asked on March 13, he refused to take any responsibility for the scarcity and faultiness of the CDC's testing kits - you know, the ones he assured us were both abundant and "beautiful" the week before.

Oh, and he falsely put the blame on Obama era regulations that never actually existed.

Trump refused for weeks to invoke the Defense Production Act to demand companies to produce more ventilators. He finally caved last Friday.

To date, he refuses to lift his ban on human fetal tissue research, which would prove invaluable in our efforts to concoct a coronavirus cure or treatment.

But we did have something put in place by Obama that was thrown out and in your original post there was something circled in red referring to 2007. The dem house has introduced a bill to make permanent what Obama had put in place and make it so it can’t be jettisoned like it was but guess which side opposes it?

Intelligent leadership would have handled this situation as it seems you desire it to have been.

And one political party and one political party only, for the past 40 years, since Reagan, has railed about the evils of government and providing for the common good. Welcome to reality. I think you need to update your signature. I agree with it 100%, but you are not practicing what you preach. You honestly think a Democrat couldn't possibly do the same?

A Dem, the previous one in office, did do something, after being criticized for the Ebola response. You can argue the merits of the cabinet level NSC position that was created and what it entailed but you can’t argue “nothings been done,” particularly after Team Trump Treason’s Administration was warned, ignored the advice, disregarded the protocols for a response that were put in place, gutted the staffing, disregarded expert advice and continuously down played the seriousness for six fucking weeks.

Has anyone here said dems are perfect? The only one saying that is you.

Where’s the civility you and others complain about? Because I question your take on current events and the history of how we got here? I’m sick of the false equivalencies and the lack of understanding about how we got where we are. I’d still offer you my hand to pull you up though, if you needed it. Stay safe.

So weird and sad thinking about all those that has died, just because someone sneezed or they were unlucky in some other way, just because someone travelled and got sneezed at or something else, just because something weird incubated in animals at a market.

It's all crazy. I can't fathom the 26 year old dying in Sweden this weekend - fucking hell.
