Trumps not the only lot world leader that fucked up.  The Canadian PM failed us and was slow to react.  Plus back in February he gave China 16 tons of PPE....and the Chinese government has taken 2 Canadians as hostages because that huawii bitch was arrested in Canada...Fuck China.

Not to mention de Blasio telling people in March this is nothing to worry about, encouraging people to go out, ride the subway, see movies up until like 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Hindsight 2020 I think a lot of people would do things differently.
Where the fuck did you come up with this? Let me guess, just a guess?

Two to three weeks ago would be March 5th to 12th. Link?

At least the OP could link to the faux news article they paraphrased or the tweet you posted, being a follower and all. In their excuse of Team Trump Treason.
He was right and you shrieked at him. Maybe a little self reflection for once.
Why the parrot of the faux news though? Running out of deflections?
Direction from the Mayor of NYC is as relevant to the crisis in NYC as anything. You are truly unbelievable.
Except that tweet you posted isn’t in Mayor DeBlasio’s feed. Fancy that. Unbelievable.

It was in Bill's feed, which is why I made the joke about drunken tweets.  No idea if the check mark means it is really him or not but there is a decidedly different tone between the Mayor tweets, overall, and the Bill tweets.

Yeah, one is his personal account the other is an account for the mayor. The blue check marks confirm they're actually him and not some random bozo who created a fake account.

So are they “both” official? As faux news portrayed it? As advice from the mayor or as Fme posted, “drunken posts?” Do you follow both accounts?

    ^^What an absolute dumbass

Edit: I’m referring to De Blasio
    Context is everything
He was minimizing the threat of the virus like Trump. That’s the context.
Is he still now? Cause Trump is. That's a pretty big difference.

    So you believe china’s numbers?

no one knows, but they were welding doors shut to keep people inside.
    Legit story?
I don’t think the us could lockdown the country like China did.

Yup.  Like my friend says.  Only China could lock down like they did.

China's population is 4x larger than US
US military spending is 3.5x China's

The US govt could easily lockdown
The difference I see is that the Chinese population has been subdued for generations that’s what made it easy for them to be able to lockdown like they did , America’s populations are not subdued all we care about is our Constitutional freedoms you know 2A and the sort..just my opinion

I think the bigger difference is China was confined to one region.

The US is having outbreaks in New York Florida California Washington, it's spread all over.
Yes, but still to lockdown a state like NY and not even the whole state just the city would take some enforcement by law to keep everyone on lockdown like in China , I live in suburbia Long Island but in areas like Flushing, Corona , Jamaica these are just a couple of areas of Queens which are packed to the gills with people they are tough to control...

Jose they literally welded the doors shut in apartment complexes to keep people in. No way they are doing that here.

    ...it would never happen here...

I know my point is that’s why total lockdown won’t happen here, I’m not advocating for those kinds of measures just stating that our population won’t put up with anything like that , so it will be up to citizens to lockdown themselves otherwise the spread will do just that keep on spreading..

So, some of this is not as nefarious as you might think.  Some permits call for certain readings to be taken shiftly....but places may not operating every shift.  Some call for certain samples to be taken and other work usually done by contractors and consultants...and since trying to limit visitors into manufacturing places, it's easy to make the choice to delay. Hazardous waste requires weekly inspection of onsite storage...hazardous waste must be shipped out every 90 days (if large generator) but some vendors not working and others barred access. So it makes sense to not penalize a company for many of these items that while important in normal times, mean jack shit right now.

I wonder how long before OSHA relaxes fit testing requirements for respirators for the time being?  They've already allowed respirator filters to be used beyond their normal use period...because in general they are way too stringent anyhow, especially just PM filters.

There are a lot of great reasons to relax regulations right now.  Some allowed distilleries and manufacturers of other materials to make hand sanitizer that the laws were preventing them from doing.

Gatherings of over 50 people forbidden in Sweden.
Are schools still open in Sweden?
    Yes.

Except for gymnasium (16-19 year olds) and universities. Where people are of age to take care of themselves and do not need a parent present.

Do all schools in Sweden have less than fifty kids per school?  If not it doesn’t make a lot of sense.  Hopefully your government does the right thing and shuts down schools too.
    Stay healthy.
Here is an official answer regarding your question:

    As for public transport
There will be guidelines for this but these are not available right now.

What applies to school and workplace?
More than 50 people are still allowed in school and workplaces.

    What about gym?
There is currently no prohibition on having a gym open.

What happens if you break the rules and are more than 50 people?
Anyone who violates the ban, and yet organizes gatherings for over 50 people, risks fines or imprisonment.

Why are you limited to just 50 people?
The public health authority justifies it by putting it on a level so that, for example, you can continue with football training and similar events and that over 50 one do not have the same control.

I’ve noticed on this board there is a fair amount of cognitive dissonance. I’m sure I have some of my own in some areas. It seems worse when it comes to the blame the republicans for everything crowd.

Cognitive dissonance is 1000 fold with Trump supporters.

Willfully ignorant is probably more apt.

‘I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators’: Trump questions New York’s push for hospital equipment

Trump cast doubt Thursday on New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo’s assertion that his state, which has become the epicenter for the coronavirus outbreak in the United States, will need 30,000 ventilators to properly care for the influx of patients anticipated to flood hospitals in coming weeks.

“I have a feeling that a lot of the numbers that are being said in some areas are just bigger than they’re going to be,” Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity in a phone interview. “I don’t believe you need 40,000 or 30,000 ventilators. You know, you go into major hospitals sometimes they’ll have two ventilators, and now all of a sudden they’re saying, ‘Can we order 30,000 ventilators?’ ”

Bill de Blasio was indeed incredibly irresponsible during the early days of this. Notice he's been silent for a while? He was fighting with Cuomo on a CNN interview last I saw him.

Have you seen any good state by state curves for the US?  I was trying but haven't found what I'm looking for.  Since actions are more state by state due to inaction at fed, it would be interesting to see which states are doing better, or not as bad I guess

These charts are being produced by the financial times

State by state numbers might be too low for a good comparison

You are calling a lot of people morons on here, but:

According to Tegnell, a general school closure also has a doubtful effect on the spread of infection.

    - There are a lot of studies on this and it has proven to have little effect.

Closing schools was a bad decision. This is one of the chief virologists of the Belgian Public Health Institute. According to him, it is an advantage if young people are infected now - and are immune to the next time the virus comes.

Johan Giesecke (the favorite of F Me In The Brain) also criticizes countries that have chosen to close schools to stop the infection. According to Giesecke, such measures are likely to have little effect on the infection, but the financial consequences will be large. He also points out that China has not seen any school outbreaks.

And, in Norway and Denmark closing schools were a political decision and went against their experts advice at their Public Health Authorities.

Okey, back to the Johan Giesecke information flow....

Former state epidemiologist Johan Giesecke estimates that the worst will be over by the end of May and then Sweden can return to a more normal state.

He says that to Dagens Industri.

“I think this has turned around by middle, late May. Then you can start easing these restrictions. It's a gut feeling I have. I've worked through five of these epidemics, so I know roughly how these things go.

Thanks - I set up a google alert to email me every time anything is published, worldwide, with his name in it so that I don't miss a thing.

    ;)

I didn't say anything about one guy being equal. Why does it always have to come to that? I'm just suggesting at the local NYC level, many of de Blasio's early comments and actions were not helpful in getting people sheltered inside in NYC. It's unfortunate.

Yes deblasio is a moron and yes schools should be closed.  Closing schools have worked in the past like stopping the spread of the flu (see 1918).
Bad grammar I know, on a zoom meeting and typing.

Look at the bright side. We’ll be rocking and rolling by Easter according to the Donald!
Didn’t he just say begin to open up parts of the country? Like the Midwest that isn’t hit as hard?
Thats what he said this morning in the conference. Did he say the whole country yesterday and back peddled today?
This topic needs more focus. Trump now wants to use data to decide which counties can relax social distancing rules because he needs to get things moving again before reanimation day. Can anyone tell me how this would work in practice? If Bumfuck County, Nebraska is deemed a safe county, and standards are relaxed, what happens when an asymptomatic carrier and relative from NYC comes for a visit to a loved one in that county and attends a larger gathering there? The only way that plan would work would be a total lockdown county by county. Won't some people be inclined to leave their hot county for safer grounds, and spread the virus there? We've seen Florida begin to get decimated due to people from NY/NJ heading south. So I guess I don't understand the logic of Trump's plan.
