This is much better than You Are
BUT in 2002, You Are was like "What the hell?" Electronic sounding, unlike anything else we'd heard from them. etc.

I hope so but that's what we said about "I am Mine".  We thought that cool little solo in the end would become a 10-minute solo.  But instead, live, he stuck to the album version.  We'll see.  Overall, I really like this new one.  Shows diversity.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

I think it’s great.  I don’t think the entire album will sound like this, but I’m really glad they experimented a little and the result is positive

The d word in a chorus is the most cringe worthy lyric I can recall hearing. By a c*ntry mile.

they should have been bold and match the d word with the c word. THATS BOLD. Pussies.

First reaction: "wtf is this BS... Are they in their Chris Cornell 'Scream' phase?"

Second reaction: "very poppy, getting Prince guitar vibes and Bowie vibes."

Third reaction: "is Ed saying the word 'dicks' ?

Fourth reaction: "interesting lyrics, interesting vocal phrasing, the song is full of ideas."

Fifth reaction: "I think I actually like this song quite a bit."

Interesting song, I am down with the new direction musically, it actually really reminds me of a friend's band, but yeah that chorus is no go for me. The best Pearl Jam songs are big singalongs, and I am definitely not singing "boys wanna grow their dicks" out loud at a concert.

It’s fantastic. This album will kick ass if it’s this experimental.
Im with you on this. Been waiting for them to get experimental again for damn near 20 years now
    My feelings exactly! 😁

I love this! Lots of influences - Peter Gabriel, Bowie, Talking Heads, Television - but they still make it their own, too.

I'm sure there will be more familiar-sounding songs too, but I'm thrilled to see them cutting loose again. Been waiting for that since Yield!

Riot Act has aged wonderfully, better than almost any other PJ album, at least outside of the first big 3. I'm not saying it's my favorite album, but it has aged like a fine wine.
Great album... Took me several years to figure that out
