This extreme solution always confuses me. I get it’s said in jest (mostly), but extreme situations aside, it takes two to party. So if the goal is prevention, how about we make females take the same over protective precaution at the same time?
So require the 13 year old rape victim to do what now?
I don’t have an answer for you. I get on the surface level how hard that would be since I will never be in that situation. But the situation around it doesn’t change in my mind that new life is being carried within her. So me saying yay abortion will never happen
No one says "yay abortion"...that attitude is why we have such a problem discussing this.

You call people "pro abortion" and nothing could be further from the truth.  I wish they were not necessary but that isn't realistic.

I'm always amazed that people in the GOP (the "small government" party) are always willing to have the government get between a female and her doctor.
Exactly.  I'm against abortion (as much as a man can be, I guess), but I don't claim to speak for everyone, certainly not every woman.  If my daughter were to become pregnant and she was not ready to be a mother, my wife and I would care for the child.  So agreed, just because you're pro choice, doesn't mean you cheer abortion.

it highlights the inequality of the whole premise of the abortion debate. largely privleged while males get to decide what women of all races, colours, economic background and ethnicities get to do with their own bodies. it's absurd. why don't, instead, we make it a country-wide referendum? instead of these "representatives" deciding, let the people decide.

and let's be real: if men were the ones who carried fetuses, this would NOT even be up for debate.
I get it. But thats where a big divide comes into play. It’s not just their body anymore. Everyone mentions it always being such a hard decision for women to decide to get an abortion or not… I wonder why part of that is? Maybe it’s because they realize new life is being given or taken.
But it is just their body.  An amoeba doesn't care if it is aborted or not.
This is where I am at. Does life begin at conception? Sure; I guess. But I'm worried about who's hopes and dreams we are destroying. A fetus doesn't have any hopes or dreams. The mother does. For a fetus to be aborted is in no way, shape, or form tragic. What is tragic is for someone to be forced to give birth and for the baby to not be given proper care after it's born. And while the forcing of the birth is particularly tragic for a child / rape victim, I think it's tragic across the board.

And I assume (though I admit, I have not read the law) that this will hit lower-income people the hardest. I assume the wealthy can just go to a friendlier state after six weeks, right? (In fact, I'd assume that's part of the design because you know these fucking hypocrites want doors open in case their family members need to take care of something...)

There's just no tragedy to a fetus dying when it's the mother's decision. And whatever retort you may have is flimsy (what if she regrets it? Well that's her decision. What about the father? Still her decision and maybe he should keep it in his pants if he's not ready for what might come next, you know, just like conservatives telling women to close their legs).

Poorly worded. But you are trying to imply that I should support abortion, and I just don’t.

I can’t go back in time and change the narrative. Pro-abortion is just where we are in the terminology these days. I don’t like pro-choice, because it oversimplifies it and turns it into a positive. It just is what it is now.

It’s preservation of life that I am after. The fetus may rely on the mother, but again, fully grown people rely on meds, devices and others to survive as well.
no, it's wrong, because I literally just said I'm not pro abortion. literally zero people are pro abortion. I'd never be on board with my wife getting one. it just so happens we agree on it, but if we didn't, my stance would be the same, hence me being pro-choice.

Plenty? How many are plenty and where did you come up with number? Because going a painful,  expensive procedure vs taking a little pill every day is not much of a choice.

Depends on your definition of "pro-abortion."  I know it's fun to suggest that people use it as birth control and sure, you can find an anecdote, but that's pretty rare. It's fun in conservative circles to say this though.

Perhaps I meet your definition of pro-abortion. To be frank, I don't care if people do use it that way.  It's not a great idea for financial and physical reasons. Using effective birth control is a lot smarter.  If someone's had three abortions, they're probably not doing a very good job. I don't think that's a good lifestyle but I also don't think being obese is a good lifestyle...and I'm not going to lose sleep over someone I don't know doing either.

I do think measures to reduce abortions should be prevalent; education, birth control, firing self-righteous pharm techs that won't hand out the morning-after pill, etc. In general, I'd rather see fewer, but I'm not really "against" them. Does that mean I'm "for" them? I don't care if you stick me with that label.

It's essentially the "welfare queen" argument moved to this topic.  Read one story about a woman who won't look for a job and suddenly that's everyone on public assistance. Read one story about someone who shrugs off birth control and just says "there's always abortion" and that's what half the women in blue America are doing. There's never data to support it; and usually data to refute it.

I'm always amazed that people in the GOP (the "small government" party) are always willing to have the government get between a female and her doctor.

I wouldn’t say zero. Plenty of people laugh off abortion and see it as simple as birth control.
    please provide some examples.

otherwise this is the worst take i have read on the internet this week.

  • Abortions are used in jokes and joked about. Next time I come across this, I will be sure to post it in here. I would love to see the psychology behind knowing its an option and how that affects sexual behavior though. I will have to look into that.

Like in school, if you had a test, but knew you could drop the grade after the fact, you may not take the test as seriously to begin with. So that’s more what I mean my simple. Not the actual procedure, but the mere fact an option exists after the fact.

Plenty? How many are plenty and where did you come up with number? Because going a painful,  expensive procedure vs taking a little pill every day is not much of a choice.
I was thinking of that very same example,  although the welfare queen is probably more common. Using abortion as birth control is idiotic and a sign of immaturity,  but probably more of a person trying to justify what they know was a terrible or foolish act.  It means nothing in the context of public health policy.
