    Bud I am pro-choice but this new law seems pretty fucked up.  You can abort a six pound \ baby right before it is born?  Ugh I am not liking this at all.

    In an open letter to Cuomo, Albany Bishop Rev. Edward B. Scharfenberger said it was "very difficult to understand" how the governor can cite his faith, yet advocate for such a "profoundly destructive legislation."

     I thought the New York law was only if the mother's life was at risk or is that wrong? Seems like it could be abused for sure with the right doctor but I know if my wife's life was at risk and we were 35 weeks in I would opt for the abortion if the risk was that great. That is if there was no other way around it like a C section for example. At the end of the day it would be her call but I know what I would want.

    Agree with you there. However The law is very vague. It should be life or death but From what I am reading the mother could say she is financially destroyed or not mentally capable to have the child and legally could abort a day before her birth date.  Imagine aborting a seven pound child because you aren’t financially ready?

    Ya that is fucked up for sure. I just talked to my wife about this and we feel like it has good intentions to save the women obviously but looks like it could be easily abused as you said. There is always adoption as we all know especially if you are already that late in the trimester and your life is not at risk. 

    I go back and forth on pro life and pro choice myself and see arguments that I agree with on both sides. One stat that is incredibly sobering to me is that out of every 1400 recorded pregnancies roughly 400 were legally aborted in 2015 in NY. That is an insanely high number to me.

    Part of the problem with today’s political climate is folks claiming things or not understanding/comprehending what the issue is or means. I know it’s snopes and it’s an oversimplification but I don’t believe the NY law will allow a woman to carry a fetus to within a day of birth and then abort it for financial reasons. Health of the woman or lack of viability of the fetus after 24 weeks.

    Seems by changing the word “life” to “health” as it relates to women’s pregnancy after the 24th week, the courts have previously ruled that “health” can include finances, mental well being and other factors. However, that said, I highly doubt a woman could walk into a facility a day before giving birth and “demand” an abortion for financial reasons. I suppose she could but I doubt the facility would perform it. There’s typically medical evaluation, counseling and a waiting period, blood tests, etc. that occur. Sounds like the extreme is being loudly broadcast by the pro-life crowd. Maybe that fella that exposed ACORN could knock up some chick and take her to a NY State abortion provider in her ninth month and try to get an abortion? You know, sacrifice one for the cause?
