We refer to them as Bourbon Bros. or The Vultures. They swarm here on Tuesdays around noon when some of our deliveries come in. We wait and put out our allocations at random times on random days. Sometimes we go weeks without putting any out.bbiggs said:Way too many bourbon hawks out there these days. It's been this way for years, but it's at an all time high around me. 6-7 dudes were waiting in the store for new inventory to be released yesterday within minutes of when the delivery truck arrived. I just happened to be driving by and I know that deliveries happen on Wednesday, so it was dumb luck for me to be there at the right time. These guys are all on social media groups where someone posts to notify the hawks to start swarming when one of the stores in the Chicago area (it is a chain) gets anything good. It is ridiculous. I don't have the time or energy for it, nor am I on FB, Reddit, etc. groups, so any good stuff I get I'll consider to be right place, right time.

There’s so much good stuff that is always available. Hype can really drive people insane.Gern Blansten said:

Blanton's is hardly rare but the bourbon community turned it in to a commodity.Gern Blansten said:

About a year ago a guy was at Meijer when they stocked six bottles of Blanton's. He bought all six right then.
It's an odd OCD type thing.
Bourbon Bros is funny. We usually just call them "taters".
Tonight is supposed to be a nice night. I think I'll open a bottle I have been waiting on w a cigar and light a fire since this weekend looks shot.0 -
I hear you. I always have stuff along those lines on hand and it's always available. I am just saying for the top shelf stuff.SVRDhand13 said:

There are many bourbons that could be top shelf if the snobs ever get a chance to ruin it. You just wait.Cliffy6745 said:

Yep. If I'm at a store and happen to see something hard to find I'll obviously buy it but I'm not running around like an asshole or paying the absurd prices some of these bottles go for. I'm more than happy drinking Buffalo Trace, Michter's and Woodford Reserve on the regular.Gern Blansten said:

It's "rare" everywhere now. People love buying retail and flipping it. It's so dumb.Gern Blansten said:

Ken Taylor did some art for the Diageo Legends Untold series. Are these coveted scotch whiskeys? Not sure if these haven't made it to the US yet or if they ever will, but wanted to get the group consensus on if the liquid in the bottle is worth the price of admission for these.

Odds are pretty good that these are still sitting n a shipping container on a dock in Aberdeen. Might be months before they make it stateside.I am a patriot said:Ken Taylor did some art for the Diageo Legends Untold series. Are these coveted scotch whiskeys? Haven't seen one yet. They are usually pretty easy to come by, but nothing so far. I really dig their finishing series releases!SVRDhand13 said:Anyone able to find Makers FAE-02 yet? FAE-01 and the rest of the wood finishing series has been excellent so far.
I'm also waiting on ECBP C921. Heard they should be trickling in soon.0 -
Local spot had Blantons for $130. I told him they sell for $60. He tells me that is what the secondary market charges. I replied I am not the secondary market, I'm your customer.0
