Poll--The Weakest Link: Backspacer Round 1

edited May 2017 in The Porch
We now have champions for:
Ten (Release)
Vs (Rearviewmirror)
Vitalogy (Corduroy)
No Code (Present Tense)
Yield (Given To Fly)
Binaural (Light Years)
Riot Act (I Am Mine)
Pearl Jam (Inside Job)

We will now play to determine the GREATEST song on the album Backspacer.

For anyone new to the game:
You are going to pick the song that you think is the "Weakest Link" after 2 days I remove the three (3) songs with the most votes.
We will then move on to Round 2. - Remember you are voting to eliminate songs from contention.

Note - Since Pearl Jam albums generally have more than 10 songs (which is all I can put in a poll), if you want to vote for:

11. The End; Just don't vote and put The End in your comments.

Again REMEMBER... 3 songs will be eliminated in the first round.

Round 1 Poll will end Monday 5/15/17 (Friday) at 2:40pm cst

I went with the Fixer, which is one of the worst songs PJ has recorded IMO.

Really like this song and album, but it's the weakest. Fun song. Might be the only song eliminated ;)
    It's a hopeless situation...

I definitely don't like Johnny Guitar but there are a few ahead of it for me.  Unfortunately I had quite a few selections I could have made this round  :s

Two songs I like from this album are Unthought Known and Amongst the Waves, and that may be it. Hopefully the´ll get to the final round.

Absolutely agree that it s a terrible lyric but overall it s a killer song live.  No way it s the weakest link on the album as per your vote.

I'll give you that. For me, it's very formulaic of Ed lately. Palm muted intro, big attempt at an anthemic chorus, and some iffy lyrics. Lightning Bolt (the song) is very similar. I believe they even share a chord pattern in the verses. This pattern started with Love Boat Captain and it just feels predictable.

    It's really not similar from a guitar standpoint. Not the same key. Not the same chords or progression. Really not structured the same either. There really isn't a true chorus in Unthiught Known. No guitar solo. Really, only the build is comparable. and the fact that they're both great songs. ;

I'm going from my deteriorating memory on this, but are you sure about the chords? I could have sworn they both start off in a variation of F.
The main point of structure is the quick palm mute intro that eventually builds to an anthemic chorus. My problem isn't the structure, because I love a great building song...it's just a little predictable anymore. Even songs like Porch live follow this (to an extent) It's not that it's bad, it's just been done. I guess it's like Inside Job in my mind. The promise is there but something isn't clicking with me.

Let the record show though that I would give up my nuts to write a song 1/10th as good as anything on this album.

Ha! Yeah man. I have quite low standards and self esteem about my songwriting, it appears!

    That seriously had me laughing.

Oh man, between this album and LB, this contest is now like shooting fish in a barrell. You can hardly go wrong
And so you see, I have come to doubt
All that I once held as true
    I stand alone without beliefs
The only truth I know is you.
