The threat of intelligent Muslim kids!

alright, one possible racist cop in the mix after he was already detained. but we can't say for sure either way if the reaction he got at the school was in any way race-related.dignin said:
point 2HughFreakingDillon said:1) the teachers at the school acted as they should have. again, had this actually been a bomb, they'd be called heros, not idiots or bigots.
2) I can't comment, nor can really any of you to any factual accuracy, that being muslim had anything to do with how he was treated. saying things like "being a muslim in texas" is just as prejudiced as what you are accusing others here of
3) I have no idea why the cops needed to question him for 4 hours after it was found to just be a clock. maybe they thought if he could build this, maybe this was a precursor to him building something more dangerous. who knows. everything being put forth here is pure conjecture.
4) if they were detaining him under the patriot act or whatever it is, they were not lawfully bound to call his parents or give him access to a lawyer. it sucks, but that's the way it is. I don't agree with that law in the slightest, but it's the law and they acted within the confines of it.
5) as a parent, I'd be beyond furious. but there doesn't seem to be any basis for a lawsuit, from what we currently know.
They led Ahmed into a room where four other police officers waited. He said an officer he’d never seen before leaned back in his chair and remarked: “Yup. That’s who I thought it was.”

after reading the article you posted, I'm unsure as to why he was suspended. My guess is the principal wants to send a message to the student body not to bring unknown objects to school, not necessarily punish Ahmed.

Wrong, again. The first teacher he showed it to knew it was a fucken clock. I just want to see what it looks like before they got their hands on it. You know, to see what it looked like before they made it look like a bomb.Last-12-Exit said:

Let me make a correction.....I don't believe Ahmed was interrogated for 4 hours, I believe it was an hour and a half according to Ahmed. I think after the interrogation and the subsequent departure from school to the police station the totality appears to be 4 hours. That is after his parents were called and Ahmed was back with his parents.
Watch him say so in this MSNBC interview.....http://youtu.be/OkCRA-Aoq5U

Over these last couple of pages, I tend to lean toward Hugh's & Thirty's perspectives.
Despite one officer's supposed comment (which was after he was arrested?), I don't know if Ahmed being Muslim was a factor in this, but I don't think so.
Also, the "little Muslim" comment that was made earlier is eye-opening, as was someone else's comment on another, albeit unrelated, thread about "beating them back".
Still, true colors - always good to see.0 -
Again, G under P posted a link to an article that had a white kid who built a nuclear reactor. Was that kid arrested or interrogated for 1 1/2 hrs? No, he was given a scholarship. Wake up0

but that teacher also warned him about showing it to other teachers, as they might not have the same keen eye for what it actually was. keep in mind, this was most likely not a clock you buy at walmart. I'm sure it also wasn't a clock tied to dynamite sticks that Wil E Coyote buys from Acme, but still, I could see why the other teachers would be more than alarmed (pun intended).badbrains said:

He was suspended for bringing a device perceived to be a threat to school, aka: a bomb. He was arrested for bringing a hoax bomb to school.HughFreakingDillon said:

yeah, I realize the official explanation as to the suspension, I was more speaking to the actual intent of the suspension.g under p said:

Lol, what's your point? Mine is pretty obvious. The second teacher wanted to make sure the last beep wasn't going to blow them into the sky. It's really not as big of a deal as you guys are making it out to be.badbrains said:

This is clearly an example of somebody looking out for the safety of the school. If you want to play the race card, fine. But it is obvious to me that there were no laws broken and the kid was not violated. The only problem I have is that he remained suspended after be was cleared. And that's clearly not a police issue.0 -
I fully understand that hugh, but 1 1/2 hrs investigating and then to haul him off in handcuffs? Come on man. Let's be real here. Why is everyone conveniently forgetting the story G under P posted about the white kid who built a fucken nuclear reactor? amazingHughFreakingDillon said:

Then why WASNT the bomb squad contacted? Pretty simple request if you think it's a bomb and want to save the kids. They should've been called before the cops.Last-12-Exit said:
