Ugh. Always having to take credit for doing good. I find it more respectful for people who do it and ask nothing in return or don't want any photos or recognition. Taking your photo with a basket of bananas just makes me want to puke.

Hopefully these "migrants" don't Rob and beat her for those bananas and her camera.

Sure as hell better than doing nothing and criticising those who do.
Does it make you feel inadequate or something?
You talk about "doing God's work" when some bigot tries to disenfranchise gay couples and then shit on these people who are very literally following the words of Jesus because they let someone take a picture of them?
Typical Christian bullshit. Self-centered, judgemental, hypocritical, moronic dogmas.
don't respond. they win when you do.
That was the post that finally convinced me she really is a troll. No one can really be that offended by that photo.

I know you are probably right, don't feed the trolls but...
Damn it's hard to let people spew ignorant bullshit without calling it out.
There's trolling and then there's just wanting negative attention. I'm guessing JAG mean what he/she writes. But then there are statements like this: "Hopefully these 'migrants' don't Rob* and beat her for those bananas and her camera." That's just mean spirited.

*Especially picking on our good friend Rob!!

My avatar had EVERYTHING to do with this refugee crisis. I don't get it. And I agree, I should've gotten a pm with something like hey man, some people find your avatar offensive, do you mind changing it? Instead, they just change my avatar without any warning or anything. Who does that? My avatar is for a cause, a cause that's happening right now in this day and age. What's the point of a cause if I can't even use a simple pic. I just don't understand that this is a pearl jam website. Pearl jam, the band who's lead singer wrote pro choice, who wore a shirt with NW on it in Australia, who wore a bush mask on tour. I just don't get it, a cause I'd think vedder himself would be a part of, and I can't post a pic that is RELEVANT to the shit that's happening tbis very day. So weird.

So fucked up. Some of you people who like to use the report function should take a step back and chill the fuck out. And for the mods to change the god damn picture without saying a word is almost worse. It's like communist Russia in this place.
The weirdest part is that that photo was plastered all over the world. Websites, TV news, blogs, fucking everywhere. I couldn't go 5 minutes without seeing that image for a few days, and immediately became common knowledge that that photo was the defining image of the refugee crisis. Why would 10C want to censor such a thing in any case??? Not trying to talk to you about it first is just the cherry on top.

Global citizen WHAT? If this isn't a global event, wow. And Rob, I'm beginning to start to believe it too. Unreal

i did some of that global citizen stuff, and if this is not striking at the heart of what it means to be a global citizen, then nothing is.

bad brains, that is pure bullshit.

Kat, can you try and give us an explanation as to why you removed his avatar?

I feel like the mods simply react to anyone who says they're offended instead of considering why it's being done. I was once told that a post of mine was being deleted, but it was totally clear that the mods didn't find it offensive. The issue was that some hypersensitive individual did, and that was all that mattered. I don't think that's a very good tactic to say the least.

  • Somebody whined about it offending them. And apparently anytime someone whines, they get their way. Insanity.

Exactly. It's a sure fire way to ensure that the lowest common denominator dictates what is and isn't okay. What a terrible plan.

She's/he gonna say someone found it offensive and reported. And to think in 3 weeks I'm supposed to see a HUGE concert in Central Park for global awareness and action. To think we spent $300 for tix to attend this event called Global Citizen Festival. Really? Am I missing something here?

    What was the avatar?

That photo of the dead toddler washed up on the beach - the son of that man who was denied sponsorship in Canada.

I can't read it. Is it possible/OK to enlarge?

    Hmmm.

Brutal photo. Strong imagery. Possible Pulitzer. Heart breaking. It evokes the same, strong emotional response within me as the vulture over the dying child in Africa.

I encourage displaying and sharing the imagery. I'm not sure I would encourage it as someone's avatar or signature, but who am I to say?

  • Well, reading closed threads can be quite educational. I have slightly more idea what the hell is going on and who has issues with who. Also realising there are some world class trolls hanging around these days!

So glad I decided to visit AMT finally haha

The image, heartbreaking as it is, is very useful for raising awareness. I agree, sharing imagery can be very powerful.

I'm sure anyone using it as an avatar is doing so for that very reason and not likely to keep it indefinitely. I don't believe it breaks any rules.

I get this, Bri. And I get where BB is at and where his passions rest.

But at the end of the day, this is a rock band's website and sometimes, people wish to come on it and talk rock and roll- escaping from the brutal news of the day.

In the MT... all is fair (generally speaking)... and posting imagery of dead children is par for the course as far as I am concerned. But I'm not sure Other Music or The Porch should provide for the same latitude.

I'm not deliberately trying to play Devil's Advocate. I'm just thinking aloud.

But having it as your avatar is very different to posting it. It's a very unobtrusive thing the avatar, sure they're only tiny!

But like others have said, you really have to click on my image to see what it is. Someone has it out for me. Just wish people would stop being hypocrites. Enough already. I've spent a considerable amount of time off the boards. I can leave if the mods want me to leave. Just ask in a pm and I'll walk away,
