‘I don’t even want to talk basketball,’ Sacramento Kings coach says

    Return to menu

Sacramento Kings Coach Mike Brown declined to talk about basketball at a news conference Wednesday, instead using the time to speak about the shooting in Lewiston, Maine.

“I’m not that smart, but I know we, as a country, got to do something,” he said as the news conference began. He called the shooting “sad” and “absolutely disgusting.”

Brown dodged questions from journalists wanting to talk about his team’s 130-114 win against the Utah Jazz, saying that the shooting was a sad day for America and for the world. “We sit here and watch this happen time after time after time after time, and nobody does anything about it,” he said. “This is going to keep happening.”

“Our kids aren’t going to be able to enjoy what the United States is about because we don’t know how to fix a problem that is right in front of us,” Brown said. He noted that some NBA players have been outspoken on gun-control issues, including Chris Paul and LeBron James.

“Can I ask you a basketball question?” one member of the media asked Brown.

“I don’t even want to talk basketball, I am sorry. We played a game. Obviously, we won. If we can’t fix this, it is over for our country,” he said, before standing up and ending the interview.

pathetic country we live in best of everything including mass shootings we are the best at it!

I was reading another book that just wasn't working for me and gave up on it last night.  I started poking around trying to find something good to read and decided it to re-read this excellent book.  It's just what I need right now, the perfect antidote to despair.  I'm loving it all over again!

These mass shootings are good for the GOP bottom line. The fear and chaos are great talking points in election years, and the cash from the gun lobby is great because $$$$$$.

They are pro mass shootings. Once you accept that, their behavior and inaction makes perfect sense.

  • Because everyone needs a sniper rifle or big game gun for self defense, right? 2A, ‘Murica!

What we know about the weapon: The rifle was a Ruger SFAR, chambered for high-powered .308 ammunition, the sources said.

The .308 round is favored by military snipers firing at long distances and big game hunters. It's larger and more powerful than the regular ammunition carried in the rifles of soldiers and SWAT teams.

One of the challenges in identifying victims at the two crime scenes from Wednesday's mass shooting was nearly all the victims were shot in the head, rendering some of them unrecognizable, a law enforcement source told CNN.

The sources say the weapon found inside Card’s 2013 white Subaru Outback appears to be the same one fired by the gunman at the bowling alley and a local bar, though a ballistics match has not been confirmed.

The weapon will be processed by the FBI and ATF for fingerprints and DNA, and then run through laboratory testing to determine if the bullets and shell casings found at the scene match.

Sources tell CNN Card also bought a Beretta 92-F 9mm semi-automatic pistol, along with the rifle, in the same July purchase.

What if someone was elected and wanted to follow dionysus' rule?  Satan's?  We should have the same reaction

Yeah, so much for separation of church and state.  This fool should have become a deacon and stayed the hell out of politics.

Not Recalling anyone else apologizing- that was my point.  That sooner or later tragedy would hit close to home and then, and only then, would someone come out against guns.

I didn’t say it was the wrong response.

I’m saying it’s too late.  There’s no way to get these guns off people and no way to stop the underground sales.

We live in a country where you need to tell the people you love them every time they’re out of your sight.  Bowling alleys, movie theaters, grocery stores, concerts.  No where in America is safe.

I wish you could see that basically we all want the same things for our families, loved ones, instead of being so defensive all the time.  Sometimes I think you only read part of our posts. Or interpret them negatively instead of asking what we mean.  I said nothing derogatory about that “republican” politician but you turned it as if I said something ugly, which I didn’t.

PS. I didn’t even know he was a republican when I posted my response mace so there’s was no reason to defend him.

I had a strong opinion about Russell Brand and the allegations of rape.  Nothing against any of the members, just rapists.

I was confused because everyone on this forum wishes horrible things on trump but I guess they don’t get flagged.  I also love when everyone posts nasty shit about a member w/out posting their name and gets away with it.
Then there’s those who claim they didn’t flag someone but they did.  Just be honest.  I flagged someone for calling women bitches but the post remains.  I’m thinking the mods play favorites😂. The whole Boebert responses were totally out of line so I flagged all those after my punishment was over.  I have no clue if they were ever removed.

Sorry to hear about your time out.  I think it takes some time to get accustomed to what is OK to say and what is not.  And with only two mods and lots of members here, I'm sure some things get overlooked.
It helps to establish a rapport with our mods.  In my early days here, I made a post that I thought was totally fine and was called out on it by Kat.  Actually, I'm sure that has happened more than once.  I took that as a learning experience and found ways to say what I wanted to say that would stay in bounds of the parameters here and would float.  I still have to check myself at times because I tend to get a bit passionate, angry, or riled up over certain subjects.

In any case, I'm very glad you're here with us.
