How do you feel about LEFTOVERS??

me? I like 'em, in that they're there and they could be dinner...no need to cook again.

well, with the holidays and all, ours have been adding up....I'm pretty sure we ate leftovers all last week. I am finally getting towards the end. today, I finished off:

a blueberry yogurt with a "date" of Nov. 5, 2014

some sliced ham from Christmas Eve

and some spicy mac and cheese that was even older than the ham.

my hangover is gone and it's about time for some football beer drinking. the beer will be fresh.

P.S. I still have one more yogurt with a "date" of Nov. 26, 2014

Whoa...you like to play it fast and loose with those expiration dates, don't ya?

As for me--I like leftovers because I am lazy and it is one less thing I have to think about or prepare.

hasn't yogurt already gone bad? that's the way I look at it.

that reminds me....for Christmas, we went to my wife's mom's house....mom is a mormon and good mormons are supposed to always have a year's supply of food on hand...her mom lives alone but buys the "value size" of everything.

so....mom pulls out a 5 pound block of cheddar for the twice bakeds...she pulls the cheese out of the (many times used) ziploc and, big surprise, there's mold on the cheese. Not the least bit embarrased, mom starts carving off the mold. Being helpful, I asked if she needed help grating it...mom in law hands it to me....I had to resist, really hard, saying "I'll get the rest of the mold, too."

    haha

We have a yogurt in the fridge from 2010 - our "lucky" yogurt we'd put out on the counter during the World Series (go Giants!). Yes, we put it out again during the 2012 and 2014 WS. Who knows what it looks like inside? If we ate it we would die.

Leftovers - love 'em. Stuffing the next day - yum. We found a recipe for pulled turkey and we did that a couple days after Christmas. You put leftover cranberry sauce on top. Delicious.

    Made me hungry too!!!

I have a ton of leftovers in my fridge. I don't fuck with the expiration dates though. I mean if it doesn't look or smell off and it's only a couple days passed the that's fine but month+ old yogurt? I wouldn't. I do get ImAlive's point tho - I've got an unopened jar of pickles in the fridge that expired Oct 2014. I mean, they're pickles. I haven't opened it yet but I'm not really expecting to have to throw it out.

I made split pea + ham (roast pork actually) soup from christmas leftovers
And Cream of Chicken/Rice/Bean soup to use up the insane amount of rice I made for Christmas.

I've also got a serving of pasta in there.

    I WANT PAELLA!!!!!!!! Gimme :)

I love leftovers too. Soup is best on the second day, same goes for sauerkraut or red cabbage. Even my bread is perfect when fresh out of the oben, but then again two days after baking. Pizza depends for me. I usually like cold pizza too, but only if there is not a ton of cheese on there.
  • deadendpdeadendp Posts: 10,434
I cook to purposely have leftovers. I agree with others. It is kind of a time saver. My daughter and I made homemade sausage, vegetable and orzo soup on Thursday during the great calamity day off. (It was too cold to be educated.) We just finished that up for dinner tonight.

Susan, Day 2 lasagna is always better. The noodles absorb the sauce better and I find that it sticks more solidly together. I am not a fan of slippery lasagna.

Scott, In my house, pizza day 2 counts as leftovers but is quite yummy. Reheating not necessary.

OP, You must have an iron stomach. If I ate the things you did with the expiration dates you did, I'm afraid that I would be violently ill. Whatever takes you where you need to go though. I admit that leftovers in my house get a 3 day rule. Anything over that gets pitched. If you lived closer, I wouldn't waste them and would just pass them on to you.

damn! I would love to have your leftovers. I have no "3 day rule" at all....fuzzy mold, slimy "oil slick" look, wrong smell are the only things to deter me....and sometimes mold can be cut/scraped off. :-$

Mold on cheese, yes. Maybe mold on bread, but I've never done that one. But again, hey-- whatever you want to eat.

Mail innovations? If it wasn't moldy when it went in, it would most definitely be moldy once it was pulled back out of the package! imalive would still be good with it either way! :)

I won't touch anything with mold on it, but I know that expiration dates are not always meaning that the stuff is bad. As long as it smells good and there is no mold, I am fine. My bread usually holds up for two weeks. Without any added preservatives. Sometimes I store it in the fridge for the last couple of days.

I knew an old lady who grew up in war times and she would keep everything. We were always hoping she would not bring out the chocolate when we visited her, cause it was always covered in that fog... I don't think a tiny bit of mold can harm you, it just doesn't taste good.
