I'm not a big gun proponent but without a firearm present this awful story may have been even worse.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — A man fired from an Oklahoma food processing plant beheaded a woman with a knife and was attacking another worker when he was shot and wounded by a company official, police said Friday.

Moore Police Sgt. Jeremy Lewis says police are waiting until the 30-year-old man is conscious to arrest him in Thursday’s attack and have asked the FBI to help investigate after co-workers at Vaughan Foods told authorities that he recently started trying to convert several employees to Islam.

The man, whom The Associated Press is not naming because he has not been charged, stabbed Colleen Hufford, 54, severing her head, Lewis said.

‘‘Yes, she was beheaded,’’ Lewis told The Associated Press before a Friday news conference.

Lewis said the man then stabbed Traci Johnson, 43, a number of times before being shot by Mark Vaughan, a reserve sheriff’s deputy and the company’s chief operating officer.

‘‘This was not going to stop if he didn’t stop it. It could have gotten a lot worse,’’ Lewis said.

Lewis said that Moore police have asked the FBI to aid in the investigation and look into the man’s background because of the nature of the attack, which comes in the wake of a series of videotaped beheadings by Islamic State militants.

Johnson and the suspect were hospitalized and in stable condition Friday, Lewis said. He does not yet know what charges will be filed.

Oklahoma Department of Corrections records show the suspect has multiple, apparently religious tattoos, including one referencing Jesus and one in Arabic that means ‘‘peace be with you.’’

Lewis said the suspect had been fired in a building that houses the company’s human resources office, then immediately drove to the entrance of the business. Lewis said he didn’t know why the man was fired.

A Vaughan spokeswoman said the company was ‘‘shocked and deeply saddened’’ by the attack.

Cm,dude I gotta say.For a lover of peace and non violence and whatever other value you claim to stand for you sure are coming off as a hypocrite.
.On multiple occasions you have made fun or belittled others who don't quite live the way you think they should.I thought you Liberal do gooders were supposed to be about tolerance?Coming off little elitist if you ask me.
Some of us are having some fun here and your picking us apart. You rag on where we live, and belittle some of our values.Or the things we grew up with.
Have you ever spent time with folks who don't live in big cities?Southerners,Mid westerners, etc? You would find they are some of the hardest working, nicest people you would ever meet. The type that would stop and help you,and give you the shirt off their back. Not rascists,or hate mongrers just good people.
I don't talk with a heavy southern draw,I'm not a religious guy.Im not uneducated,And I'm not a Rascist.I don't live in the sticks,in fact just the opposite I live in an Upscale Beach town.I worked my ass off for what I have,No one gave me a fucking thing. I go to a PJ concert or a Zac Brown show wearing a beat up old bent brim Hat ,jeans ,Tshirt and some checkerboarded faded vans I am still very much civilized.I like to boat, fish, get dirty and play outdoors and I love my state, family and country and a cold beer(s)If that makes me a redneck.Fucking Guilty as charged and proud of it!!!
Maybe you are passing judgement a little to soon.Or maybe you just think you have it so much better then us. Either way ,I was under the impression that the reason a lot of us like to hang out on these boards is for some fun and interesting conversation, especially when we don't agree.I never thought it was personal looking down on others thing.Guess I was wrong.

Rednecks give country folks a bad name. None of those definitions were even close to accurate. A redneck is the lowest rural class, just like gangbangers are the lowest urban class. Neither group has any class, they break the law too much, and shirk responsibility for themselves while paradoxically claiming to have "never been given anything". The idea that southerners are more self-sufficient is a cultural lie that is disproved by federal "welfare" distribution figures. Same goes for "hoodrats" or whatever offensive name outsiders label them with.
Here is the crazy part...culturally these fringe groups are able to taint the impression given by those who have class in their immediate vicinity largely by the classier folks' acceptance of the classless' cultural failings. Hence the popularity of terrible country songs with idiotic faux-patriot lyrics and rap songs with violent, sexist lyrics. Hence the popularity of trucks and guns for ruritans, and Cadillacs and bling for urbanites. It is insane. Songs like Red Solo Cup and artists like Nicki Minaj, this isn't a case of bad taste, it's an idiotic, misguided cultural alignment that effects probably millions who should be smart enough to know better.

for me personally big city life is noisy, i can't breathe & i am surrounded by people, concrete, glass & steel. i require trees, wide open spaces & a whole lot less people. i just wanna be left the hell alone in a small country type town or deeper into nowhere land.

it is as if i am claustrophobic in the educated city. frickin freeways buzzing on by, light pollution everywhere & i'm just goin nuts. where are my lightning bugs? crickets & cicadas sing a rare & different tune, terrapin station in the shadow of the moon, terrapin station

nothing against folks in the city. they are happy or maybe they are not? where i live lawmen are pleased as can be if you can be your own protector even in towns of 10,000 - 40,000. it'd be like going to wyoming & telling them good ppl to call the cops or sheriff because they will protect you so put down your guns.

i like the smell of farms... manure & more manure

a so called friend of my youngest nephew, z, stole z's bowie knife that was given to him on christmas by a family friend. i'll be damned if that little brat denied it & denied it over & over. finally the cops are involved. the police interview the boy a couple times & both times he denies having took the bowie knife. my brother is like, "horse shit, that little prick took z's knife" the police are like, "well what do you want us to do about? he says he never took your boy's knife" my brother tells the cops, "you tell him that when he turns 18 yrs old i am beating his fucking ass unless the knife is returned"

shortly there after the knife was tossed over the fence into the backyard

you beat the dog shit out of two well known bullies at the same time around here & the police declare you a hero. good places to live & raise your children

I apologize if I'm not the spineless type of liberal you're used to sparring with - we're not all hippies and dead beats. But I'd hardly consider myself elitist. However, I've grown tired of tolerance. I can't tolerate any more people telling me bombing foreign countries is the path to peace. I can't tolerate anymore people trying to justify trickle down economic policy while our middle class gets gutted.

I've spent plenty of time "in the sticks". At any given time, my territory for work has run from Michigan to Colorado. A pretty good cross-section of middle America. Grandpa was farmer with 400 acres, salt of the earth. Saw him wrestle cattle for dehorning with his bare hands at the ripe age of 64. In fact, that whole side of the family is farmers with 4000+ acres to their name. Personally, it's not the life for me. I do enjoy camping, fishing, hiking and a good cold domestic beer.

Calling yourself a redneck might sound cool. But to the rest of the world, it paints a very grim picture of who you are and what you stand for. It doesn't just make you look bad, it makes all of us look bad by association.

Now I'll get down off my high horse and try to dial it back a bit. I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. But as a wise man once said, you're feelings don't trump my rights (1st Amendment in this case, it's the one listed before the one you hold so dear). Or perhaps I should only exercise this freedom in the designated area...

I never meant to belittle anyone's beliefs. But believing the sky is purple doesn't make is true. You'll understand when I get a little fired up at comments like 'nobody gave me nothing' and 'national defense spending should never be cut' or 'guns make people safer'. Because statements like that are just patently false.

    Have a fun weekend RR!

I think it's just a different environment, and with it, different mindset, way of life...though I'm prone to that claustrophobic feeling too at times, usually due to people whether by their energy or volume. Kind of why me and mine are typically the homebody types.

I'll say that while we live in a high-up condo, we have a beautiful view of homes and trees, in the springtime lots of purple blooms from the jacarandas, a 180 of the mountains...sure, some sounds of traffic and the occasional ambulances and police sirens (about a five-mile distance from hospital to local PD and we're in the middle) - hell, we even had a police pursuit fly down the main street next to us.

Anyway, not a fan of the smell of manure but definitely of animals and grass and dirt. It's part of nature.

I do wish we could see more sky-stars though.

well yes it is a different mindset & different environment altogether. horse stables smell good to me & cow pastures in the fall smell wonderful.

here in the country we wake up early, this is how it is. farm kids are up around 3 or 4 doing several hours of chores before school: collecting eggs, feeding livestock, milking dairy cows & it never ends. & so guns are like trucks & tractors, you learn how to drive (to help out with work) at age 10 & you learn how to handle guns at age 10.

farm boys are always kick ass wrestlers & football players as they are strong as shit. back when bailing hay was more hands on.... forget about it! try filling a barn or barns with hay bails sometime. this helps make for a penis

& them small town country girls are a hoot. tomboys up a damn tree or drivin the tractor around doin what they do. they shoot guns too not just paintin their toes

  • I might have to re-think my position. I'm not disappointed in lenient gun laws after hearing about this story:

Just today... this shitwad was busy decapitating people until someone shot him dead: Nolen, who was fired from the food processing plant, had beheaded a woman with a knife and was attacking another worker when he was shot and wounded by a company official, police said Friday.
    http://news.ca.msn.com/top-stories/woman-beheaded-at-oklahoma-food-processing-plant

If this person hadn't put this dickhead out of commission... we'd be forced to listen to how unfortunate his upbringing was and how we owed this really nice and misunderstood human being our best efforts to give him another kick at the can (he had already spent time in prison and was currently on probation for assaulting a police officer).

    * He assaulted a police officer? And never got shot? I guess not all cops are trigger happy, small-dicked dirtbags just itching to waste people, eh?

Yup - this was in another thread as well, Thirty. Mind-boggling - how do you just go and CUT SOMEONE'S HEAD OFF?

Also, if I recall correctly, he was fired and then went straight to the violence. So, did he have a knife already with him (and one capable of beheading)?

Fucked up is what it is. Wish I had more eloquent words for it, but yeah. Utterly fucked up.

  • He was only shot and wounded. The guy shooting the gun fucked up- he never shot him dead. I thought the had. My thoughts here are that he must have been a piss poor shot.

I mean... if people are getting shot dead for talking too loudly in the movie theater... it's natural to assume that people would be getting shot dead for chopping people's heads off. What the hell is the NRA teaching people these days? The gun toters don't even know who they're supposed to shoot.

    Sheesh.

    * Now we do have to feel sorry for this guy.
