No replies, no surprise, doesn't fit the group agenda.

It's one little story with few details on a subject which already occupies more threads than it deserves. How many gun threads are there already? The horse is dead, no need to beat it.

Agreed. One thread should be enough.

There are multiple threads about many subjects.

Anyway, this reminded me of the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

    Gun vs. sword!

Just scary that you can be minding your own business, going about your day, and someone else comes along and turns everything upside down. Glad this person wasn't able to hurt more.

He was stopped and that was good, no reason to argue about that. :)

(But it's just not safe if everyone would walk around with a gun.)

    The 'upside' to concealed carry.

Big whoop. It doesn't topple the downside in any way.

    * And like the others have said... why another thread for this incident?

  • Usually these type of stories dont get the attention of the press. Its when no one intervenes and people die that the press is all over it. Sad but true

Well the other titled thread doesn't really apply to this hero.

Fact: Far more people die because of our shitty gun laws then are "saved" by our shitty gun laws.

Hats off to the guy but a guy with a knife can be stopped very effectively with a baseball bat. The bat doesn't have to be autographed or anything special.

We already have multiple threads for this such as the 'good guy shoots talkative guy in movie theater' thread (finally everybody gets to watch the show without that annoying voice... sheesh!).

    What agenda?

For every 'good guy stops attack' story, there's at least 3 'idiot with a gun shoots someone for no reason' stories.

    That agenda?

    Exhibit A

    Exhibit B

    Exhibit C
  • Always bring a gun to a knife fight.

or you can come to terms and realize
you're the only one who can't forgive yourself, oh
makes much more sense to live in the present tense
    - Present Tense
  • I think the point to make here is that, once again, the "good guy" has a pistol and not an assault rifle.

    That point is moot.

Stats shows that "assault rifles" are used in less than 1% of crime.

If it is everything that is evil for you it is also everything good for us.

I'm glad you brought this up. So the point would be to regulate ALL guns? Not just 'assault' rifles?

Have pretty good police force in my neck of the woods. Will allow them to deal with the baddies.

The fact of the matter is, for every "good guy with a gun story" there are ten more like this:

    http://news.yahoo.com/newborn-dies-pregnant-woman-shot-death-104112086.html

Newborn dies after mother killed by stray bullet
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A baby born to a woman fatally wounded by a stray bullet while sitting outside her home has died, police said Monday.

Megan Doto, 25, whose due date was next month, was struck in the face late Sunday morning by a bullet that had traveled several hundred yards down the street, police Capt. Steven Murianka said.

The woman was pronounced dead early Sunday afternoon after being rushed to Temple University Hospital, where doctors were able to deliver the baby by emergency Caesarean section, authorities said.

The child died about 13 hours after her mother, police said.

Doto had written on her Facebook page that the baby was due next month and she was planning on naming the boy Carmine Joseph.

Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey expressed outrage.

"These guys don't care about daylight, they don't care about it being a Sunday, they don't care how beautiful the weather," Ramsey told radio station KYW. "They're just evil thugs and they will do whatever, whenever they can."

Police did not have any suspects.

"A young girl that's about to have a baby and all of a sudden stuff like this happens," the victim's former landlord, Hector Rosado, told WPVI-TV. "It's very bad, she was a nice girl."
“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man [or woman] who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”
Variously credited to Mark Twain or Edward Abbey.

  • And again...no need for an open carry assault rifle. A nice concealed pistol will do the trick.
