Awww... is that the bakery beside the train? Where we bought the yummy cakes?

Nope... bakery in Twickenham. A Greggs bakery because that is the company I work for. Next will be a night shift in the Bakery ('factory') and a delivery run with one of the drivers. I think I will pass on the latter. They drive like madmen.

:D can't YOU insist on doing the driving? Cmon... I can't imagine you sitting there biting your tongue while they drive mentally.

Ha! Me driving a lorry - I shut my eyes at roundabouts! That's why I don't think I'll do the delivery run. I would go crazy and be a very bad passenger.

so where are folks staying in NY ?

been looking at the various flight and hotel options and come to the conclusion that some sort of package deal for the two is what we're going to end up doing... will end up spending an arm and both legs in the end but the we've never been to NY before and as the missus is letting me see Pearl Jam i suppose i'd better treat her right!

so... is the midtown Manhattan area (Times Square sort of area) a good place to stay ? there seem to be lots of hotels there, it's close to MSG and also close to alot of touristy things...

any experts out there got any advice ? ;)

good news on the job, Al, wish i could get a job closer to home, would save loads of money and time not having to commute... :(
Oh yeah? Well, I've had about enough of morons and halfwits, dolts, dunces, dullards and dumbbells - and you chowderhead yokel, you blithering hayseed, you - you've had enough of me?

I used to commute to central london - hated it in the end. What was worse was when I was on a project near liverpool street station - crap place to travel to from where I live.

Now my job is in Twickenham. I can cycle there in 10 minutes, walk there in about 25/30 mins - but all this only when the weather is nice obviously! The bus only takes 5 minutes :D

AS Helen said it's good for touristy stuff and easy to walk most places from there (including MSG ... I went to Knicks game :) )

one thing to know so your not surpised is that New York hotel rooms are tiny ... pricey real estate and all that  ... we were in that area in quite a nice hotel and there was no wardrobe just a hanging rail behind the mirror that could fit 2-3 hangers ... just enough space to walk around the bed etc
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

thanks, pippa.
yeah, most reviews seem to comment on the size of the rooms, or the lack of... but then i'm not going to NY to stay in and look at the walls of a hotel room! well, that's the plan anyway... ;)

I'd definitely recommend staying in midtown. On our past two trips we've staying in the Hotel QT on 45th st (Brilliant hotel) and the Washington Jefferson Hotel on 51st street (nice hotel but the walls are like paper....if someone whispers in the next room you can hear them).

This time we've got the Hotel 41 on 41st Street as it has some really good write ups and it's closer to MSG.

Like London, you get what you pay for with NYC hotels. It might be cheap but I would avoid the Hotel Pensylvania.....I've heard nasty stories about it from folk who've stayed there.

Tip for folk flying into JFK too.....just get a yellow taxi fromn the airport. It's only $45 to anywhere in Manhatten and way more convenient than messing about with buses and stuff.

Mike, Jenny don't know if you saw this earlier but this hotel has hostel rooms aswell .. you may be able to get enough people to book a whole room. Think they have a couple of dorm rooms ... about $35-$45 each a night I think http://www.gershwinhotel.com/english/site1.html

Looks like something a little bit different ...

For my sins:

Port = Left (remember as both have same number of letters)

Starboard = Right
