I think the DM songs sounded great live. And 8 months later or whatever, I still feel as if that album would have held its own if it were released 20+ years ago. It's damn good.

Dance was weird...but I actually enjoyed the fact that most of the arena, outside of tenclubbers, didn't really know it. Made it seem weirder to me. One of the highlights of the show, strangely, imo.

More than half the crowd is there for the hits though and probably don't know much of DM or the last few records so that's likely a big factor to those songs feeling a little off I guess.

I don't know man, I am all for them to keep making new music but it's been mostly not good to average at best - albeit DM(and Eddie's solo album) has bucked some of that trend.

I think you could have went heavy on Yield/Binaural/Riot Act/Avocado (less "hitsy" records, sans Yield) on Saturday and that show would have still been absolute fire.

Great example of a band that's more of a Studio Band, though they definitely have a rabid fan base that would say otherwise.

See I think DM is significantly better than the last three records...it didn't just clear a low bar for me, it is a legitimately good Pearl Jam record.

    Agree on your second point.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this a good bit because of these shows. I feel like all the albums since basically after Avocado have really screwed with the flow of shows to some extent.

Thank you. I get slammed for that opinion. Last four just HAVE NOT BEEN THAT GOOD. DM is probably the best of the bunch, but still.

Some dope in the Missoula thread opined DM “might be their best.” STFU.
I'd say Gigaton and DM are the better of the last 4, and DM is their best of them. There is just something about these songs that changed the sound for the worse at a show. Always feel like a piss break song or just completely kills the momentum and mood of a show. But I get it, they're not going on some of these tours if it's not to tour the new albums. But I'd say Binaural & Riot Act are their most challenging, eclectic albums, but even those bring a great vibe to a show.

I dunno, I know this is just old men yelling at clouds about other old men playing music, but it's wild & bizarre to me how many people that have become fans like post-2010 and are mainly fans because of these newer albums. They just mostly feel like studio-only albums and just don't play that great live. And then on top of it they're competing for real estate in an even-more limited setlist space that pushes better stuff out.
    word.

and, no, Juggler, DM is not “damn good.” it’s decent, at best.

I knew the song but couldn’t remember the name. Thought it was gonna be a pre-tag to something. Then Eddie was pantomiming a bow and arrow. Then it was done.

The games are so much more enjoyable to watch. They really are.

I hate the fact that the younger fans now seem to like Mccarthy as he's all they really know at this point.

Also, just saw that the Phils have had 17 seasons of 90 wins or more (you read that correctly) over the course of 131 seasons (yes, you read that correctly).

Now, I have been alive for 8 of them, cogent with a formed brain for 7 of them.

Insanity. We have no idea how "good" we've had it.

    Very subjective statement for sure.
  • Not sure how I'm coping with no more shows coming up.

And I'm really feeling that PTSD from 2011 and expecting severe disappointment in the playoffs.

Not really the case for me.....I feel like they stepped on the gas again after sleep walking for 6 weeks. Didn't we kind of limp in back then?

They took a dive after clinching the division. Can't remember but maybe there was no incentive to get the best record or something like that. Then the umpire squeezed Cliff Lee in Game 2 and everything went to shit. To be honest their hitting throughout that season was a struggle and it was only masked over by the excellent pitching.

I mean I get Johnny's point from some of it. Never fun when you're the best team, honestly lol. Anything beyond a title is a complete disappointment lol.

Also, that team that year felt completely hollow if the pitching didn't carry them. And I can see the same with this team, not to that extreme, but this team has been beaten up and relies on the pitching probably as much, if not more, as that 2011 team.

I want the bye, I want a sweep in the DS, and don't expect a challenge until the World Series lol
