They have been pushing this heavily over the past 6 months or so. We haven't done it yet and were honestly debating it. Yeah, it makes perfect sense, but we're also not sure how long we're going to be where we are so tough to assume that we will be the ones that have to do it. At the same time, with our front yard, it's going to be a hell of a project when it goes...
American water sends us something once every other month about signing up for this. Fuck them...another insurance scam. No idea what it is like in Philly so can't comment on that.
Happy this area isnt freezing like the rest of the land. Supposed to get to 5 degrees here tomorrow, which is about as cold as I need.
Got a fucking voicemail from the water company telling me to let the water run tonight. Great.
Do it. When we were remodeling our house before we moved in, it was under 10 for like a week straight. Let's just say our waste pipe froze and backed up into our upstairs bathroom.....
Waste pipe? (Waist pipe? Stefan? Lol)
That is nasty. Don't want that to happen! Grew up in VT and we had to regularly run lines at night, we knew from experience which ones are at risk.

I would say if you live in the 'burbs it wouldn't make sense, but living in a city, Philly in particular, it makes too much sense - it covers your water and sewer lines running from your house to the street, along with the appliances that would be connected to these that could fail, which is the resident's responsibility if anything happens. In Philly it's definitely a high probability of something happening (Cliff above) - whether due to living in rowhomes/shared space, trees out front (can grow into the pipes), on-street parking (people parking on curbs), or especially living on small side streets (people fucking also driving on the curb). A job to fix those is at minimum $5-10k. For $96/year? That's a ridiculously good deal.

That's how I kind of took it. That said, almost all of these pipes are lead and need to be replaced eventually.

Sewer lines too? I was under the impression it was the water line, but I could be mistaken.
So good - probably going to bring Henon down with him, I don't think it ultimately affects Kenney, though. I just need more shoes to drop. I'm ok with unions but fuck him and Local 98. This should, hopefully, change some things in "The Machine".
EDIT: Oh, also, this might mean Squilla has a challenger in our district. Which would be fucking awesome.

I can't see how Henon stays. The few texts that I saw are bad. I don't think this gets near Kenney. He distanced himself a while ago. Pennsport isn't thrilled with him these days.
IBEW Local 98, a Pennsylvania political powerhouse, has been saying for weeks its entire focus for 2019 is helping Mayor Jim Kenney win a second term. How do the charges against John Dougherty impact that goal?

Well, I'd say this in some way has to affect their PAC, campaign finance filings - I have to think they're on hold. They basically throw a lot of money around.

But regardless I think Kenney gets re-elected.
And the soda tax, which has been an abject failure from what I understand, was basically just a dick swinging contest between the teamsters and local 98? That's real good...

Yup. Money ended up benefiting the General Fund and partly 98, which is just great.
Was boozing and smoking last night. Some of the fastest smokes I have had in a long time -- when it is cold af outside you for sure have motivation to smoke quickly.
Good news is that it is not nearly as cold here as it is in other parts and it is going to get warmer every day to Sunday.
Spoke with my mother last night and she complained that the country is a bunch of softies...kids in VT are going to school, no delays, no cancellations. People are expected at work -- this is winter life, there.
Kinda harsh, but funny.
Fuck -bazillion degrees, when the hell is Bryce Harper announcing? Is he waiting until the day after Super Bowl?

Yeah, man. I was talking to one of my clients in Minnesota yesterday. -31 before windchill. Heart breaks for people without adequate housing or heat. Cannot imagine that pain. But yeah, reminds me of upstate New York/NE winters. I do always get a kick out of what school gets cancelled for here. I also feel terrible for kids that they just get a text message or some crap that school is cancelled. There was no better feeling that waiting for your school to scroll across the bottom of the TV screen, then it coming up. Mine was always one of the last to cancel too.
Bryce Harper stuff is funny. I love that a video game is trolling Philly fans.
We listened to the radio for the cancellations at 5:30 in the AM. What a feeling to hear "Saint Monica" or "Chelsea High School" announced. Those were the days!
My wife shared with me last night that she read they 'added 500 beds for homeless in Chicago' -- my response was that I hoped they added a fuck-ton more than that. It is awful to think about people who live on the streets with weather like this.

Yeah, I mean, you didn't even get TV channels where you're from so radio makes sense. Do they even have cable up there yet or do they still have to adjust satellite dishes?
We got a satellite dish when they were those giant fucking things you posted in your yard.
At that point (84-ish) we still did not have cable. 3 channels through antenna on your roof and you typically had to move the antenna with a device any time you wanted to change the channel.
Cable came in....90 maybe?
Before they 'scrambled' the dish channels we got every feed or pretty much every channel out there, it was awesome.
(Especially when I got to jagoff age and had 20 porn channels to sample when alone.)

I knew it! Cable came in 1990 is am amazing statement.

Yep, just saw the Snow Day episode of The Goldbergs in syndication the other night, opening montage of the 3 kids huddled around the radio listening to hear if their school got cancelled brought back a lot of memories. I remember the mornings when you heard them getting to your town alphabetically then they didn't say your town's name were just the worst. "Why do all these other towns have no school but we have to go?"

If you live in Philly I think it's a no-brainer to have this: http://phlcouncil.com/city-council-philadelphia-energy-authority-launch-water-sewer-line-protection-program/

Back in my day we'd listen to the AM radio.
