But I heard there are only 4 dead, not 8.
Update: Now I see at least 6 dead.

Just heard that one of the possible remaining suspects is white and the other is african-american.

Actually on edit that would be impossible since DC has "these weapons of war" banned from common-folk peasant ownership.
"Well, you tell him that I don't talk to suckas."
Well, they are weapons of war. No denying that.
And the current laws suck to where these guns can still be bought in one way or another. Most likely they were bought illegally, and that shows that there is a lot more to be done to end these illegal purchases.

Regardless, very sad for those whose lives were lost, and their families.

the gun law debate is a distraction from what ultimately is the issue ... do we choose violence as our means of fixing our problems or not ... a peaceful society can have no gun laws whatsoever and we wouldn't see this stuff ...
I understand the point you are making, but I think the two issues are inextricably linked - the sheer availability of guns must play some role. Perhaps in a country where guns were far more difficult to obtain, that anger and hate would be manifested in a different way - not necessarily in a positive way, but maybe something that doesn't make it so easy to kill multiple people in such a short space of time.
"very strong statistical link between fatherlessness and gun homicides"
someone need not be angry to committ murders, mass shootings & whatnot. they are nutjobs

i am in favour of gun laws ... i think the NRA is made up of people who are completely out of touch ... but the national debate on guns will not address these events ... like so many other issues - they have been politicized to the point that ultimately the points being argued have very little relevance ...
you can have all the laws you want but it wouldn't have changed what happened today ... nor so many other tragedies ...
when your first response to perceived injustice is violence ... this is the result ...
look at 9/11 ... immediate after ... people wanted blood ... and they got blood ... and guess what - no matter how many "top level" al qaeda people gets killed in drone strikes ... there are more and more "terrorists" willing to do harm to american interests ... instead of asking ourselves what would possess people to fly a plane into an office building - we did what we always do ... kill ... and respond in kind ... well, the circle will just keep looping ... and the ultimate tragedy in all of that - is there are people who profit off that and that makes them happy ...
why don't mentally unstable people in peaceful countries act out like this? ... you say they are nutjobs and question why they would want to kill people ... yet, i wonder the same for people who think it's ok to put a pervert in the hospital ... they are obviously not the same level of action but at the heart of it - it's still the same ... violence is not a solution ...
please no need to post links to mass murders in other countries ... sure, they happen but clearly not at the absurd rate it does in the US ...
Yep. I think we'd all do well to wait and learn what actually happened first before we start figuring out ways to use today's tragedies as tools to further our political agendas.
"...I changed by not changing at all..."
I can't argue with any of that, I think there are all kinds of issues at play in these kinds of crimes; from the personal circumstances involved right through to national identity. In terms of gun availability though, it has become a bit of a chicken or the egg situation - if Americans didn't have the free access to guns in the first place, the very option of commiting these kinds of crimes would probably never have occurred, and thus it wouldn't have become such a major part of the culture.
it's possible although I think it's more closely tied to it's history ... the american revolution and civil war being two significant events ...
Lack of access to guns? I'm not being flippant, but we all have plenty of unhinged individuals in our societies. Here in the UK the most common weapon of choice is a knife/sharp object - obviously it's a lot harder to commit a massacre with such a weapon, and so perhaps our killers direct their urges on one victim rather than multiple.
Perhaps, but then we've had a pretty bloody history here in the UK too(!) and we don't suffere these events to anywhere near the same extent.
He probably says it right away to ease people. He is just stating that at the moment it is not terrorist related, because since 9/11 all major events like this people assume terrorism.

All I said is that people are buying guns illegally, like through gangs or gun shows, and then use them. That is a major thing police and the gov't need to work on. I am not trying to start anything. Unsung made a comment that such guns shouldn't be in DC and I replied how they possibly have them.
Yeah I made an assumption that the shooters from today had guns like that, sorrrrrrrry. You are the one making this a big deal.
