So in one day you get to see Blur, Pearl Jam, Tame Impalla, Snoop, Arcade Fire, Mudhoney, the Naked and Famous, DIIV, and the Lumineers? That's a great lineup for one day. Better than you'll see at any other festival over the course of a single day. Lots of collaborating I bet.

I guess you guys would rather have no show at all though right?

    :clap::clap::clap::clap:

Open your ears people, and discover that there is more to life than pearl jam.
There are a lot of act's i don't know there, but there are a lot i want to see, and i guess i might discover some new stuff as well. Go with an open mind. You might even have fun

Ok I shall start this with, I have never been to Big Day Out, in fact I've never been to Oz.
Feel free not to read on...

However, I have been to a fair few festivals in the UK and in Europe. These include a number as Pearl Jam as the headliner and I have to say they really are what you make of them. Ok so not all the crowd might be to your liking, but if you're with other PJ fans then you can certainly make your own entertainment and enjoyment.
At Hyde Park people were even giving out lyric sheets to non PJ fans to get them to join in. At Werchter where Arcade Fire were also on the bill right before PJ, it was baking hot, and the other headliners had been Rammstein/Pink, Muse/Faithless and Green Day/Editors - so a real mixed bag of a crowd and we had a blast. Ended with Dave Grohl sharing a drum kit with Matt, Alain Johannes playing additional guitar, and members of AiC, Josh Homme, John Paul Jones etc dancing on the sides of the stage. It was a festival but I will not forget that version of Kick Out The Jams.

There's always going to be people (regardless of age) there to get bladdered, 'be seen', get stoned off their nut, and yeah no one wants them spoiling the enjoyment of others...but in a way you're letting them 'win' as it were if their presence prevents you from attending. They are at PJ gigs too sometimes.

I think we'd all love PJ fan only shows, or at least PJ non festival shows but we don't always get what we want. I am expecting any future European tour to be festival heavy. I'll just have to work out what ones I can do, price up glamping (I don't do tents if I can help it) and look forward to that feeling of elation when I hear the first note of Oceans...or Footsteps...or Release ...or.... :D
    Edited for awful spelling mistakes!

    QUESTIONS....

How many tix can you buy in the 10C presale?

Does anyone know how close the 'Like A Boss' 'exclusive area to watch the main stage' is???

$285 is pricey but could be worth it......

    BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

I'd rather wait a year or two and see them do an Oceanic tour.

With their recent touring history they're balancing the good life with pleasing the fans. Festivals = big paycheck, reduced touring crew, and a more relaxed "work day". They can surf all day and just show up. 15 years ago i'd be upset. Now that they're 49,50 years old i'm just glad they're around. Trust me when i say enjoy the chance to see them.

Just curious, reading all the hate for BDO, is it just this festival in particular that people hate or are all festivals down under disliked?

I had a blast seeing PJ last year at two festivals stateside. I thought the lineup was pretty good for a festival.

This is a good sign that this may turn into a world tour to include dates in Europe, perhaps even a cap-off back in The States through the Midwest. Congrats to those down under!!

If they had announced that they were headlining the Big Day Out ten years ago you'd see a completely different reaction from many Australians.

There’s no decision on the top three on what they’ll be doing – actually no, the decision’s made for Pearl Jam because they’re bringing family out and having a holiday and [sideshows] are more work. That’s preferable for them and it’s preferable for us.

:o Pearl Jam are human  they have families, and take holidays :o

all festivals attract dumb crowds. That's a solid festival lineup for 2014 though. No single day of Coachella, Lolla, ACL, etc can probably match PJ, Arcade Fire, Blur, Snoop, etc.

Thanks to the internationals for posting particularly those that get pj shows more frequently Han every three to five years within 30 hours of flying. You have no idea about the big day out. I was down on the floor along with hundreds of others for ten minutes in 1999 then there was a death due to poor crowd control in 2001. Since then they have only increased numbers and added flimsy safety measures. And the sound is shit for 70pc of those watching. Before you judge you need to learn the facts. It will not be a good show for the majority of ten club members IF they go. So the band wants a holiday in Australia that is great. Just know that the shit decision to play bdo has massive implications for your fan base that will impact record sales and future tours.
