Thanks to the internationals for posting particularly those that get pj shows more frequently Han every three to five years within 30 hours of flying. You have no idea about the big day out. I was down on the floor along with hundreds of others for ten minutes in 1999 then there was a death due to poor crowd control in 2001. Since then they have only increased numbers and added flimsy safety measures. And the sound is shit for 70pc of those watching. Before you judge you need to learn the facts. It will not be a good show for the majority of ten club members IF they go. So the band wants a holiday in Australia that is great. Just know that the shit decision to play bdo has massive implications for your fan base that will impact record sales and future tours.

I don't agree. In fact I think there is very little this band can do right now to have a negative impact on tours and sales. They are probably getting bigger and bigger and are now in the elite section of touring rock bands. They always sell out cause they always put on an amazing show.

    Started this bad boy so feel as though I have earn't permission to rant;

I get where the disappointment is coming from re:BDO as I have felt it ever since hearing the news of the BDO Tour. Basically I was hoping for a PJ show. As a Pearl Jan fan that’s the natural response, to want to see PJ. Also, I had promised my 17yr old cousin my 10C +1 and was all stoked to be able to get him the ticket.

Pearl Jam fans are amongst the best in the world. As fans we feel we have some right of ownership of the band or the music, which is ridiculous. However, PJ and the 10C rely on fans who take ownership, as feeling part of a community, belonging to, and associating with a brand...I mean band...drives a great many things.

The ‘pre sale for members’ email had to be held back til today and I get that. Keeping the BDO line-up secret is important to the promoters and used to be a big fucking deal, back when the festival had relevance the line-up was anticipated. Now no one really gives a shit. Still no countdown clock for us, oh well. The fact that the ‘fan club’ tickets are on sale the same time as General Pants has them on sale is a bit of a kick to the ‘Doing for the fans’ balls.

After the last tour comments such as ‘Eitihad Stadium ok...better at Rod.’ was a response and isn’t a bullshit statement. Festival vs Etihad? Seeing them at the Corner or the Palace would be epic but unless a sneaky sideshow happens there is no chance.

Now the difference is if you are a music fan or a PJ fan. PJ are not playing stand alone gigs (at this stage). Pearl Jam is playing Melbourne along with bands such as The Lumineers, Naked and Famous, Group Love, Arcade Fire and Tame Impala. In short, quality live music capped off with some PJ, and if you love live music and PJ, that’s not a bad fucking day out.

See you at Flemington, giddy up.

BTW: If you are looking at the ‘Like a Boss’ ticket for $285 all the best...I heard last year that the viewing area was miles away and the dunnies were shit.

The first tour here sold out in less than ten minutes and the subsequent tours didn't show any signs of decline, so I don't think they're in any danger.

if anything it will INCREASE their record sales and ticket sales in Australia. There will be thousands of people who will buy their first PJ album after seeing them at BDO.

You get to live in Australia. Can't you people be happy enough about that?

I think people from overseas who have never been to a BDO ... it's fine to have your opinions and say "so what, they play festivals everywhere, it's PEARL JAM, it will be great!" ... but you really can't understand how shitful the BDO truly is. It is the worst of humanity. The complaints people make are all well justified.

Having said that, I was planning to be back in Perth around February ... so I will probably buy a ticket and hope for the best. If I go, I'd aim to get there a bit before Arcade Fire, try to get a half decent spot on the PJ side as people are leaving after Snoop Dogg. Doubt I'd get into the D barrier, however. Fuck waiting around all day for that.

It seems clear that Blur will start just a bit before PJ are scheduled to finish. The bogan will love nothing more than the chance to impress their fellow species with how loud they can scream "woo-hoo" during Song 2. Hopefully they will think they've seen enough of PJ, then switch stages, and you can move a bit closer. And if the curfew is set for Blur, then hopefully PJ can keep playing after their scheduled end time.

I'm still not sure what to do about this.

6 years ago I flew from Sydney to Chicago for The Vic and Lolla on my own. It was expensive and I was alone in a new city but that was a different time for me. I was younger, with no commitments and a 'why not?' attitude to things, and there were a ton of other bands that I wanted to see.

Now, I don't know how I can justify $185 just to see Pearl Jam, Portugal. The Man and Mudhoney. I have zero interest in seeing any of the other bands on the bill, I've either seen them before or I'm not a fan. The simplest way to look at it is this: if PJ weren't playing BDO there's no way I'd even be thinking of going. My wife has already decided not to go, mainly because she hates the BDO bullshit but also because $370 is a big chunk of money for us to spend on one show. I guess that's part of growing up.

There is absolutely no doubt that PJ will put on an amazing show - they always do. I just wish it wasn't at BDO...

Exactly. There's so much wrong with this tour that I just... I'm very disappointed :(

Unfortunately I can't justify $185 to see Pearl Jam. Even though I love them more than just about anything, times are tough and those few extra $$ makes it unreasonable.

It's disappointing that Australian fans have to pay so much, won't get fan club preference and will have to put up with the worst festival with the worst crowd in Australia just to see a potentially shortened set that will be sure to have all the punters screaming for "more hits". The stadium gigs last tour were bad enough in that regard.

I predict disappointment from the band as well once the shows are done. These shows won't have a quarter the magic a regular Pearl Jam show has.

    Sad all round.
  • what's the point in everyone being so depressed about the Big Day Out Shows?

when I first heard the rumour I too was a little disappointed and was contemplating not going, but, I guess getting to see your favourite band trumps all the negatives.

I've turned around from not going at all to going to Melbourne and Adelaide - what better way to enjoy our aussie summer? and both those dates are usually notorious for having perfect weather - often 35-40+ degree days.

185 is alot of coin, but I think you will be kicking yourself if they don't announce any sideys and you miss out. you only live once. as long as you spend your money on something you will get enjoyment out of, it is never a waste.

and who cares about the bogans etc... they'll all piss off to the boiler room later in the day. this will be BDO 12 and 13 for me....

just embrace it people and enjoy it!!!

    What a bunch of whingers.

It's Pearl Jam, on a stage, playing live. Surely the decision isn't that complicated?

Who knows when they'll be back? This might very well be their final trip down here. No wonder they play festivals when their hardcore fans throw a hissy fit when the band don't play the kind of venues they want, the kind of shows they want, charge the prices they want, etc.

    This is seriously great news.

Can you get into the BDO without : a) southern cross tattoo
    b) waxed chest
    c) cap tilted to one side
    d) demands for respect

    Just wondering.... :)

I think it's great PJ are playing the BDO. Personally I don't like BDO at the Gold Coast. The only way to the Gold Coast BDO is to drive, yet there's no parking and parking inspectors issue tickets all day. Then there's the fact it costs $185. Which is great if you want to see all of these fabulous acts but not if you only want to see PJ. I've been a TC member for yonks because I love PJ. I haven't missed them once when they've been to Australia.

If they had been to the Sound Wave concert, I would have gone in a flash.

The problem I have with all of this is they regularly come out every three or four years (approximately). So if there is no side shows then it means I won't see them for six to ten years since the last concert. That sucks.

I hope the BDO crowd truly appreciate PJ as they are a brilliant live band. Have a good one. It looks like if I want to see them I might have to fly to another country. How nuts is that?
  • BDO is as good as the demographic of the people buying tickets.

Everyone saying they wont go just cause "It's BDO", you're just making room for the southern cross tatooed bogans. PJ fans can own BDO if we all just went.

Yeah I'm beginning to think this too. Come on peoples! We need more PJ folks here in Adelaide to out number our bogans!!!

BDO on GC is at Metricon stadium this year, so Train station isn't that far and they have a great Bus set up just outside it.

I agree - whilst everyone here would prefer PJ shows by themselves, this aint happening, so adjust and move on. I would go to see them at any festival if that was the only choice, and yes there are some absolute knobs at the BDO, but there was plenty at the 2009 Brisbane stadium show too.
As you say Spencer, they are playing live- I'm there!!

Why? Membership won't be of any relevance to the BDO shows, only if there's sideshows.

    Personally, I'm pretty excited!

At Hard Rock Calling 3 years ago they had ten club tickets. And with the whole pre-sale thing happening today it effectively is a members only privilege.

Would suck if your membership wasn't sorted out for today. Hence why I would have expected a small indication of something happening on here before it was announced.
