speedy. do not include truck driving. i know it can be a real bastard. please tell me another extremely difficult task you have worked at.
I have a nice little 401k going.
With that and social security, I will be just fine when I retire.
As a kid I worked in fast food joints and department stores.
There ya have it chadwick, my entire work history.
Now why dont you share your work history with the rest of us.Take me piece by piece.....

i have my guitars repaired at the mom and pop store. they do a better job, and they treat my expensive and vintage gear with the care and respect that that stuff deserves. not like guitar center who has a high school kid making minimum wage attempting to repair guitars. sure i pay more at the mom and pop store but they do a better job, and they pay their employees a respectable wage.
I figure they've earned my business along with that of many others, and assume that revenue/profit is passed on to their employees.
However, and to be fair, I also have to assume the Home Depot/Lowe's/Orchard Supply, etc. do the same. I've never had bad service at those places either; the employees seem happy and knowledgeable as well. It's just a pain in the ass for me to drive cross-town when I can get the same quality, assistance and inventory from a more convenient place.
ps...yeah. Enough with the personal shit!0 -

Why do you feel the need to play the insult game with me today Chadwick?
i have worked my ass into the earth since age 10. this is a fact. im a crippled up mess & worked very hard in my life & played harder & did not take very good care of myself. i know about being a poor ass bastard working for beans or little to nothing.
the semi driving actually saved me in many ways. i had god damn $$$$$$$. honest god damn $$$$$ too.
but as a human being i am not designed to cover 800 miles daily or whatever. i had money coming out of my ears as a driver but it was truly slave labor.
for your information mr. chicago know every god damn thing & snotting little shit
i never once hauled drugs in my loads. i never got fired for drugs.
i quit smoking weed & went and had two interviews & two pee tests w/ two different companies back to back the same fucking day. one company said i failed their UA due to THC whilst company B said i was hired & that they were cleaning up the truck i'd be driving.
i was rail roaded & hadn't smoked marijuana in 6 weeks or more.
each and every trucking company choses their own score on the DOT's chart on THC levels. company A has a number where if you've even breathed marijuana in a smoky room you will fail whereas company B that said i passed has a more common sense approach and will hire a guy if they have been a clean brean for a month or two.
you are a truck driver you need to do your research & stuffPost edited by chadwick onfor poetry through the ceiling. ISBN: 1 4241 8840 7

i think if people were paid a little more they would feel like they are valuable to the business. feeling valued is an important part of having a good staff. if you have employees who feel that they are being treated like shit or undervalued by the boss then that is contagious to the whole staff. your customer service certainly suffers because the staff does not feel that sense of worth when trying to help someone find a metric socket set."You can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry." - Lincoln

My home office days were limited to 3 years as I recouped from a back injury.
I am enjoying being back to the office where the action is.
Before my injury I worked at two locations and raised my children
and helped raise a couple extra of their friends
life has been good to me and I hope I have been good to life.0 -

I'm glad I overslept this morning. And I'm glad this is all being carried out on computer screens or half of this crew would be in the ER.

My first thought with this thread was that you would build a more valuable, more dedicated and therefore (possibly) more efficient workforce within your company if you paid better and offered better benefits packages. One of the local businesses here in town (coffee shop) pays better than minimum wage and offers benefits but they all work full time and they have fewer people that staff each place. However, they reward by only promoting from within and I think they have the loyalty of their employees AND they have earned the loyalty of their customers. However, I think we are missing sight of a bigger issue. We are swiftly moving towards a more educated and more skill oriented labor force. Jobs that need to be done for lower wages will continue to be shipped to other countries and we (the American work force) will have to settle for lower paid jobs if we refuse to get reeducated or earn new skills. I think the days of working one industry/business for one company are long gone. I am already on a second career and contemplating a third in which the skill sets have translated but the jobs I perform are very different. I think that is the future of American labor. Are we getting something out of this all-encompassing trip?
Seems my preconceptions are what should have been burned...

I'm a communist?
Um... OK.
Let's see... I hold down four jobs, I work day and night, have a lot of people who depend on me, I direct movies, edit TV shows, run a blog hub, cast and produce and mentor new content developers and I pay everyone very well because good help is hard to find and I want to make sure that they all stay with me and don't take what I taught them somewhere else.
I gave my cleaning man a raise because he does a fantastic job and he not only deserves to be rewarded for his work and dedication but I want a clean house and I'm willing to pay the best guy to do it.
I pay my assistant very well because managing my time requires a degree in time management and dealing with my temperamental meltdowns.
I'm a "communist" because I see that the economy isn't going to grow if the vast majority of the country can't afford to pay their rent.0 -
OK so here's why I think the minimum wage needs to be raised to keep the economy afloat.
Yes, I work in porn but my REAL job is entertainment.
I make and sell entertainment. Not just porn, I'm also producing a SciFi series about zombies. The model for that is people either pay for a premium TV channel to watch it OR they buy it from a download service like iTunes. If people can't afford to pay their rent and food... they sure can't afford to buy episodes of my shows. So while it's all great that the Romeys and the Koch brothers have 50 billion in the bank... my business and EVERY business that deals in luxury and entertainment items depends on a large consumer base with disposable income.
GREEDY... I ripped into you about the hotdog stand but look at it this way...
A Hotdog stand is a luxury item too. Hotdogs are cheaper at the grocery store. If people are on a tight budget, they're not going out for many hot dogs or movies or buying new running shoes. They will spend their money if they have it but right now... all that money is going to the top 1%. And those people can only eat so many hot dogs.
Like it or not... America is no longer a manufacturing economy. We are now a consumer economy. We don't make things anymore. We buy them. And if we're not paying our workers well enough to even meet the basic necessities of life... well, how many hotdogs are they going to buy?
Let's pay the workers what they're worth.. a wage they can live on.. and they will turn around and spend that money and we ALL benefit from that.0 -
