Man shoots self in infield at NRA 500 Nascar race

The death of a man in the infield of Texas Motor Speedway on Saturday night during the Sprint Cup Series NRA 500 has been ruled a suicide from a gunshot to the head, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's office.

The incident happened late in the race when Kirk Franklin, 42, of Saginaw, Texas, apparently got into an argument with other campers, according to the Associated Press. Track spokesperson Mike Zizzo said Saturday night that the incident happened "in or around a pickup truck" in the infield.

Absolutely sad - how does one go from attending a Nascar race to killing himself?

I'm not sure of the NRA's place in this other than being a sponsor. The article strikes me as a bit all over, so maybe I'm missing something in the write-up.

Anyway, 42 years old and DONE? Over an argument?

Color me judgmental, but what an idiot.

The general school of thought is that registration leads to confiscation. My thought is they have no business knowing what I own. I am not breaking any laws.

How does registration lead to confiscation unless there is a good reason to confiscate, i.e. the person who owns the guns is deemed a danger as a gun owner? Why wouldn't you want that to happen??

Not all "assault" weapons are burst fire or fully automatic... they are single shot. I don't understand what you're trying to get at here. Are you assuming they instantly make you inaccurate and gut shoot an animal?

And yes, you actually can eat gut shot animal. You need to make sure it is cleaned right away.

you posted one person being interviewed one time. it's not being naive. it's being realistic. is she the only one? probably not. but you ARE being paranoid if you actually believe it will go from one old lady trying to ban all guns to it becoming a constitutional amendment.

People feel it's and infringement on peoples rights to prove your an American citizen to vote so why is it they don't see Universal registration an infringement on our right to own arms?

It's an infringement on my rights when some lunatic is able to get guns and ammo that he wouldnt be able to get if had to go through a universal background check and then goes out and kills my family or friends or neighbors or kids or co-workers

By the way...if you feel it is an infringement on your rights to have to prove you are an American citizen in order to vote then don't complain about voter fraud.

I think it should be mandatory to show ID to vote considering all the voter fraud we have...... not to mention all the illegal people here.

Wait, it's not mandatory to prove your identity and to match it to the voters' registration list when you vote?? Whaaaa? What kind of nonsense is that?

GUN CONTROL VOTE FAILS IN SENATE

With Vice President Joe Biden presiding over the Senate, an amendment to expand background checks on gun purchases failed to pass through the body, falling by a mostly partisan vote of 54-46.

Sixty votes were needed to pass the legislation through the Senate. Four Democrats voted no on the measure. All but four Republicans voted no.

States have background checks ...gun owners just don't want to be on some UN list....They also don't want crap to pass that has hidden agendas......we want to know what EXACTLY is written in this law....like who is going to be the judge and what criteria will they use when deeming some one is not eligible to own a gun.....seems people have smartened up since passing the Obama Care without reading it....

Gun owners? From what I've gathered, most gun owners supported this. It was political wrangling that decided this vote, not what gun owners want. If that were the case, it would have passed.
