46 murders in Toronto this year (out of 2.6 million people)
Over 400 murders in Chicago this year (out of 2.7 million people)

Maybe it has something to do with the U.S being a culture riddled with violence - from the death penalty, to waging countless foreign wars, e.t.c? And If you teach your citizens that violence is a solution, then when one of those citizens feels his back is against the wall, don't be surprised when shit goes down. Especially when you supply these same citizens with easy access to guns, including automatic weapons.

The again, I'm not American, so I don't know. Maybe the Americans on the board are better equipped to answer this.

There's been a spate of attacks on children at schools in China over the past few years. Assholes with knives going into schools and attacking toddlers, e.t.c. It's a good job guns aren't widely available here as they are in the U.S.
China, a country that flaunts the fact it executes it's own citizens in the name of 'justice'. And then acts surprised when some prick decides to fulfill his own sense of justice. If any of the school attacks here had involved guns then we'd have seen about 5 Connecticut's here already.

How the fuck can someone look at a classroom full of 5 year olds and put a fucking bullet in their head. A grown fucking man walks into a school and shoots fucking kindergarteners. Fucking 5 year olds.

This fucks body should be dumped on the side of the road

The focus will be on the shooter maybe being depressed, having other issues, anger management problems, personality disorder - whatever. That will explain it all...... Whilst, should it be confirmed he was mentally vulnerable, there is a lot more to 'explain' and take action on than this.

Sorry if this was already mentioned, and I am in support of changes to gun control laws, but just wanted to point out what is being highlighted in the news, which is that that big assault rifle was 1) in the guy's car so not used in this attack i am assuming, and 2) couldn't be legally purchased in CT anymore (the assumption being that if his mother owned it legally, it would have had to have been bought prior to stricter gun ownership laws in that state (1994 I think they said?).

From one of CT's radio stations:
A music teacher managed to save 15 children during Friday's shooting massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut by barricading them into a closet, while the gunman stood outside screaming 'Let me in! Let me in!' Maryrose Kristopik has been hailed a 'hero' by parents after herding the children to safety in a closet and barricading the door to prevent him from entering.

so many wrong reports... is this social media?
    Rumors :?

    Speaking of social media.

For a child already isolated, ineffective socially, a loner, troubled...
this new phenomenon must exemplify these feelings.
No real friends, no 4000 'friends' and counting :wtf:
Just another thing to hate about this world.

Boy can we see the hate in this one. The...
' I wish I had never been born I'm taking you with me
all you happy loved dear children'

'They' say and I maybe have felt this in a small way at one time in my life,
that suicidal people believe they were born at the wrong time,
never were meant to be here, don't fit, can't fit.
Mix this with a jealousy of those happy who do fit it makes a very dangerous person.

We must go to the root of the problem. It is not the gun it is the killer.
    This is common sense.

I will not get into another gun debate ... it is futile.
It is disrespectful to the one's lost including the killer.

A smart man in the mental illness professional said last evening we have laws
to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill but we do not enforce them.
What we need are new laws protecting the mentally ill and providing help for them.

In this case these guns were registered to the killer's Mom.
These guns were illegally acquired by the shooter, he took them from her.
This as the last shooting, acquired illegally.
There are no gun laws that will change what is happening here.

But there is help that can be given to the killers to keep them from killing.
There are changes to our culture and our parenting skills that can
change the outcome for our children.

This phenomenon is new. It is the making of a new breed of killer.
It has nothing to do with guns that have been owned carried since I was a child.
It is the people, it is the time, it is the mistakes we have made.

As reports are flying around- was he really mentally ill? Or is that just an excuse we can give to wrap our minds around this tragedy. Oh, he's mentally I'll, So I'll give him a pass.

I'm sorry Pandora, but he could be just plain evil- and him AND a gun killed those people.

Did he let evil in perhaps...
I believe in pure evil and breaks that allow entry.

My gut feeling is more a growing frustration. No one he could turn to for help.
A wanting to make others pay for his pain and loss.
    His loss was great.

I don't think a child who was diagnosed autistic, with a personality disorder, who spent his time
with violent shooting games, had little or no human connection...
I don't believe is evil, in my opinion.
    He is ill ...
what is kind of evil though is he was allowed to be ill.

In some parts of our lives, we all experience loss. If you are so unhappy, don't talk to anyone about it, no one really knows what going on with you, or you just refuse to take your meds- you can't blame anyone but yourself.

My thing is, if you are unhappy with life, then just take your own and end it.

And if he was diagnosed with those mental illnesses, he wasn't "allowed" to to be ill- he either didnt take his meds and/or his parents didn't supervise him enough.

One thing that will come from this current shooting is that we will probably see metal detectors placed in elementary schools.

I taught preschool and a before and after school for 10 years and the very same shooting could have happened in Bethesda MD. We had not much security at all and this was not that long ago 1987-1997...back then we had more worries from child predators that a mass school shooting.

These shootings appear to be getting far worse and by far more frequent.

Thats the key parenting skills yes in more than just meds
Our homes are responsible for who we send out in the community.

Our society allows people to be ill, we know this. A huge failure there,
everywhere. We just don't care, a lost people. I guess to some degree
we are paying for that now.

Your statement highlighted disregards the motive, the delusion, the emotion,
we can not separate that from these killings. You speak from a realistic point of view
not like one of this young man. Remember he a gamer, his reality different.
He did not miss but one person in the 26. Sharp shooter.
Had he also been handling these guns and allowed to do so by his mother?
Did she know how troubled, angry he was?
We might assume no but most mothers have a feeling about their children
but don't really want to face it and don't know how.

Sadly you could be right. Can you imagine a parent standing outside that school while other parents are picking up their children and that one or two parent where no child of theirs is coming out to them. It had to be the loneliest, saddest feeling in the world....this at any time could have been anyone on us as a parent. It hurts deeply.

Oddly, just yesterday morning in my rush to get my teens to school on time I said goodbye to my daughter but thought it wasn't enough...I gave her a kiss before all this madness occurred many of those parents may not have given their child that kiss or hug and now have to live with that.

After picking up the kids yesterday I asked the kids did they have any metal detectors in their Royal Palm Beach HS? She said no I was surprised but I do know they have an armed police officer and two others unarmed. Well if no metal detectors then make it more difficult to get on school grounds and into the school itself.

From kindergarten to 8th grade I had to be buzzed in, to get into my daughters Catholic School. Maybe something like that could help.

Metal detectors would do nothing in this case. This had a locked buzz in security system
he just shot out the glass, came in shooting.Sounds like a video game huh?
Or some movie or Tv show.

Why should we think we can protect everyone and stop this?
Fortresses do not work. Not even in video games.

The only way to stop it is to 'make' different people. Take a look
at who we are, our culture, our acceptance, our failures and work from there.

While these shootings are rare we don't want any, understandably, but the fact is
bad things will happen and from them we find change and we find good.
