It's hard to make words. Those poor families. I feel like throwing up. Or crying. Or both.

I wish I knew what to do to fix this. How do we monitor or recognize people with mental illness? What should have been done with that Va. Tech shooter? His family knew he was mentally ill and they allowed him to go off to college. And he was able to buy a gun.

Sometimes prayers for the families doesn't seem like it does anything at all. But I'll still do it.

So, he killed his dad in NJ, drove to CT to kill his mother and took 20 Kindergarteners with him? Good lord. Why don't these people just kill themselves and leave everyone else alone?
Sorry. The world doesn't work the way you tell it to.

I agree. Although you might be the kind of parent who'd devote the rest of your life to gun control and mental illness issues and doing everything you could to keep something like this from ever happening again.

(Damn, I wish I could stop crying.)

I feel guilty, but so happy and blessed that I'll be hugging by boys extra hard tonight. Those poor families, the little souls of those kids were too good for this world. Prayers for all those touched by this.

Or you could have other kids of course... but anyway, yeah, I have no idea how parents can cope with life ever again after such a thing. I would just shut down I think; wouldn't be able to put one foot in front of the other. But it seems that most seem to somehow move on eventually, even though their lives are basically ruined forever.

    this is bad bad bad
    nothing but bad

i can't even think straight right now
i kinda feel like i did after 9/11
all scrambled up & all fucked up
    feeling helpless, confused & lost
    sad & exhausted

the shooting at the bat man movie @ the theater had me this same way

what is fucked up is that there are so often mass shooting you don't even recover from one before the next one happens. just the other day that shooting happened at the mall. i hadn't even have a chance to look that info up yet before this one here happened. and it was the same with the theater shooting; days later there was another shooting i didn't even get to learn about that one either.

simply... i can't keep (the fuck) up

Most likely an AR-15 assault rifle. The civilian version of the M-16.

You can pick one up on your way home from work at your local Gander Mountain or Dick's Sporting Goods for around $700.

    and in Ohio news today

    http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories ... imits.html

Senate votes to loosen gun limits

Other states’ concealed-carry licenses won’t automatically be recognized in Ohio under bill

Drivers could bring guns to the Statehouse or Riffe Center garages, as long as the weapons are left in their vehicles, under a bill that got final legislative approval yesterday.

But before passing it, the Ohio Senate, at the request of Senate President Tom Niehaus, R-New Richmond, stripped out a major provision from House Bill 495 that automatically would have required Ohio to recognize concealed-carry licenses from other states.

Law-enforcement officials had expressed significant concerns about the unlimited reciprocity provision, arguing that it would allow people to carry guns in Ohio who have gone through less training and less-rigorous background checks than are required for Ohio concealed-carry licensees.

The Fraternal Order of Police of Ohio also noted that the bill would have allowed someone who did not qualify for a concealed-carry license in Ohio to simply go to a neighboring state with less-restrictive requirements.

Sen. Bill Seitz, R-Cincinnati, acknowledged that was a fair concern, and he successfully had the reciprocity provision removed from the bill. Both he and Sen. Larry Obhof Jr., R-Montville Township, said they will continue working on the provision next year with law enforcement.

“This is a provision we need to act upon, but we need to do it right,” Seitz said.

Niehaus said he was concerned about whether people from other states carrying guns in Ohio have the right training. “So rather than leave that loophole, I asked that that provision be removed,” he said. “I felt it was important to ensure there was full discussion.”

    The bill, pushed by the

National Rifle Association and other Ohio pro-gun-rights groups, also says that a concealed-carry licensee no longer has to demonstrate range competency when renewing the license for a second time. Supporters said the requirement is vague and unnecessary.

In addition, the bill would allow people without concealed-carry licenses to now carry loaded ammunition magazines in their vehicles, so long as they are stored in a compartment separate from the unloaded gun.

The House went along with the Senate changes, though they were not necessarily happy with the “ vast, cool and mysterious ways of the Senate,” as described by bill sponsor Rep. Terry Johnson, R- McDermott. But Johnson said it was still a good bill that “restores a portion of our constitutional rights.”

Senate Minority Leader Eric Kearney, D-Cincinnati, was among the Democrats who questioned why it was necessary to allow people to bring guns to the Statehouse parking garage. Obhof noted that several other state legislatures allow guns in and around their capitol buildings, and the proposal was developed with the State Highway Patrol.

    I don't know.

It being so much in the news like you said...when people go off the deep end, when people snap they do the worst things. even the murder/suicide football player....if you can get access to a gun, you can cause mass destruction. seems like the thing to do these days, to go out of the world proving some kind of bad point in the horriblest way possible, I guess.

This is the most serious I have ever thought about how bad having access to weapons really is
