my thoughts and prayers are with the families... and xmas 10 days away... it's sickening...
... I am not in the business of being liked anymore ...

  • We will all watch the news..
We will hear about the gunman..
We will hear the horror stories from the survivors and parents.
    We will watch the funerals...
We will listen to the outcry "Ban Guns!!"
Then in a couple of days/weeks we will all move on with our lives...

Waiting for the next mass shooting to occur.

    Because it will.

    Where did we go wrong?
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

    Exactly.

My wife just told me that one of her coworkers has two kids that go to that school. They're OK, but they're currently on lockdown.
OK, correction. The kids go to another school very close by.

This woman actually reports to my wife, who practically ordered her to leave the office so she could be there when the kids are released from lockdown (I know this because we're both working from home today -- obviously she's doing more work than I am right now). The woman doesn't want to leave because she's a project manager who is covering for another manager who's out of the office right now.
  • I'm very angered that this has happened. It might not be anger... but it's something that makes me feel rotten.

These seemingly neverending reports beg the question:

Can anything be done to curb the disturbing trend of mass gun violence?

To me... this 'trend' is alarming for two reasons: firstly, there are people developing the mindsets that these types of events are a solution to the problems they face; secondly, gun legislation in the US is so obviously needed and so adamantly opposed.

Are these types of incidents going to just be accepted as a way of life given the 'freedom' some people insist upon?

    Geez.

These children went to Elementary School.
These children were one week away from Christmas Vacation.
Santa Claus was coming to their house in 10 days.

    Incomprehensibly devastating.

Slaughtering the innocents is perhaps the most vile of all crimes.

  • 20?!?! Damn. First reports were 3. What a fucked up culture we live in.
An entire class of children in unaccounted for?

I just heard this 10 seconds ago on my local news.

Early reports is it was a parent of one of the kids in that class.

Early reports wrong (as usual). A 20 year old with 2 9mms. wtf?

Reports that there were two shooters involved.

How can two human beings be so evil and sick?

I hope they catch the second one alive ... so we can torture him for years to come.

Pretty sure not one writer of the Constitution would have said massacres of first-graders are the price we must pay to have a check on government power.

I have two kids under 5. Where the fuck can I sen them where they'll be safe? School? Nope! Movies? Nope. Fuck this shit.

I've voted for Obama twice now. He needs to do something about this. Now! Be a fucking leader, Mr. President.

How many guns are in Canada vs the greatest country in the world?
USA more school shootings in 2012 then Canada in the past 15 years...

    1999
The W. R. Myers High School shooting occurred on April 28, 1999, at W. R. Myers High School in Taber, Alberta, when a 14-year-old walked into his school and randomly shot at three students, killing Jason Lang and injuring another.[90] This shooting took place only eight days after the Columbine High School Massacre, and is widely believed to have been a copycat crime.

    2006
The Dawson College shooting occurred on September 13, 2006, at Dawson College, a CEGEP in Westmount near downtown Montreal, Quebec. The perpetrator, Kimveer Gill, began shooting outside the de Maisonneuve Boulevard entrance to the school, and moved towards the atrium by the cafeteria on the main floor.[91][92]

One victim died at the scene, while another 19 were injured, eight of whom were listed in critical condition with six requiring surgery.[93][94][95] The shooter later committed suicide by shooting himself in the head, after being shot in the arm by police.[96]

    2007
Two 17-year-old Canadian citizens, whom the media can not identify under the provisions of Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act, were arrested on May 27, 2007, and charged with the first-degree murder of a 15-year-old student at the C. W. Jefferys Collegiate Institute. Prior to one of the arrests, police had taken the unusual step of obtaining a judicial order to publish one suspect's name and photograph as he was considered armed and dangerous. Media reported his identity and photo, then had to take the stories off their websites after he was arrested hours later.ref name="STAR_1975_2007"/>

    2008
A 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest in the school's parking lot following an altercation involving several people. No name has yet been released. On September 17, 2008, Toronto Police announced it had made 2 arrests of these shooting suspects; 18-year-old Mark Deicsics, has been charged with robbery while armed with a firearm and fail to comply with recognizance and the victim of the shooting and 16-year-old teen, has been charged with robbery while armed with a firearm. His name cannot be released under the limitation's in Canada's Youth Criminal Justice Act.[citation needed]

    2010
At around 1:00 PM EST there was a confrontation between 4 students, at least one gunshot was fired from a semi-automatic pistol. The school was placed under lockdown until 4:45 pm EST. Two suspects were apprehended by the Toronto Police Service but were not charged, one fled and was sought as a suspect until 7:30 pm EST when he was taken into custody. It was discovered he was a victim. One teen currently remains to be apprehended, and no one was seriously hurt or killed.[citation needed]

46 murders in Toronto this year (out of 2.6 million people)
Over 400 murders in Chicago this year (out of 2.7 million people)

If there is a second shooter out there and they are taken alive they will immediately become the living, breathing embodiment of why I am absolutely in favor of the death penalty.

The number of firearms is a symptom, not a cause. If firearms caused
murder, then Switzerland, Israel and Norway would have murder rates
similar to the US, and places like Ireland, Scotland, Mexico, Jamaica,
Bermuda, Bahamas and Sri Lanka would have low rates.
