  • What do you guys think the playoff rotation should be? At this point, I'd like to see:
1-Lester (arguably best pitcher on the team this season, 2x WS champion)
    2-Lackey (2x WS champion)
3-Hendricks (arguably 2nd best pitcher on the team)
    4-Arrieta ("Mr. Five Innings 2016")

Sorry Hammel, you're coming out of the pen.

    I'd go:
    Lester - fire at home
    Hendricks - fire at home
Snake - a lesser than last year Arrieta is still better than most
Lackey - take the playoff experience
Hammel - not in the rotation. Not in the pen. At Murphy's watching the ges with the fans.

  • Yep, I think Hendricks is a no brainer for Game 2, 9-1 at home with 1.21 ERA. Not a bad option to have Arrieta/Lackey in a Games 3 and 4 situation.

    New York 1 & 2 '16

True, I didn't consider the Hendrick's-at-home factor. This is why I'm not the manager and Joe Maddon's getting paid!

For all my shit talk about Ross, Wrigley is awesome. It is everything the stupid new Yankee stadium is not

I can understand a yankees fan's hatred of Ross. I almost appreciate it..... With him coming from the Red Sox. I think that is the greatest thing about baseball fans, when factoring in your last comment. There's plenty of old school hatred in the game, plenty of "your team sucks", plenty of I don't like this player "just because." But there's a certain fraternity you're in when you truly love the game. An appreciation for the history. The old Yankee stadium..... That's a place that baseball dreams are made of. I'll never be a Yankee fan, but I'll always dream about what it would have been like to have played there....to have grown up going there to see ball games. Although I'm not a tiger's fan, Tiger Stadium is where I saw the most games growing up. I'll always remember sitting at tiger stadium, where legends played. Wrigley has always been the pinnacle for me, and when I walk in, I get to feel the same way my father, and his father, and my great grandfather felt when they walked in as kids. It's more than a game..... It's about life and love, and the people you'll never forget. So, thank you for that last comment, because it shows you're a true fan of the game. Everyone should appreciate that.

Same with me, although I feel it's imparative we be up 2 0 heading out for gm 3, especially not knowing what type of Jake we will get. He's made it well known he wants ace money and ace yrs, 7. Well here's your audition in the "big boy" games. Perform and if not the Cubs, someone will back up the truck for you. Stink it up and you only have yourself to blame.

  • My favorite movie of all time. Just picked up the book and started reading it. The author, W.P. Kinsella, died two weeks ago exercising his right to physician's assistance, after suffering from diabetes for decades. I've always wanted to visit the site but haven't made it there yet; the town it's in has my namesake, after all! (Dyersville, IA)
  • Well Cubs fan? Are we ready for the playoffs?
I don't give a rats ass who we play. I'm going to go Ric Flair here and say. "To be the best, ya gotta beat the best".
So bring on the Dodgers, bring on the Nats, bring on St. Louis. I don't care. Bring on the Mets, the team that kicked our asses last year in the playoffs. Bring on the Giants, who seem to win a World Series every few years. I don't give a fuck.

    Lester
    Hendricks
    Arietta
    Lackey

    I like the Cubs chances.
    Take me piece by piece.....
Till there aint nothing left worth taking away from me.....

The same damn thing I have been waiting for, for half a Century.

Can the Cubs PLEASE just get to the World Series? Can I PLEASE just go to my folks house, order some Lou Malnatis, sit on the couch, and watch a Cubs World Series game with my father? Is it truly that much to ask for? The poor guy has been waiting his lifetime to watch a Cubs World Series. He is 78 years old, and his health has been on the downslide for the last decade. All he wants in life is to sit down with me, and watch a Cubs World Series.

Can the Cubs PLEASE not rip our hearts out? AGAIN!

Huge Giants fan here, been thinking for a while the Giants have to be the one team the Cubs don't want to see in the NLDS. Finally spoke to the biggest Cubs fan I know today and he feels the same. For as much of a mess as the Giants have been in the 2nd half they still have 4 very good SP's and a huge amount of successful playoff experience. The 4 game series in early September were all games that could have gone either way. Cards or Mets don't have the starting pitching to go head to head with the Cubs. I think the Cubs would be and deserve to be huge favorites if this series ever came about. Superior hitting and bullpen and a slight advantage in starting pitching. Anyway I'll be pulling for you guys minus a Giants series. I predict we do face off and the Cubs win a 5 game series for the ages and the experience of beating the Giants propels them to a WS title. The Giants are still scary but have major issues that I couldn't image then fixing in a few weeks. Still think it would be a great series though, a little '89 rematch.

nobody's scared of our fucking Giants. they can't even beat the padres on a regular basis.

  • Hell yeah, Speedy! One of my best childhood memories is coming home from school and watching the Cubs on WGN with my grandfather. Back before the lights! Back when the buildings on Waveland & Sheffield were apartments and the dozen or so tenants would watch on the rooftops instead of a bunch of corporate scumbags. Back when we had the Shawon-O-Meter. When Ryno would go 0-for-the-month-of-April. When "Jod-yyyy, Jody Davis" was an auto sales jingle. And on and on.
I no longer have the opportunity to watch a Cubs World Series game with my grandfather. But it would've meant the world to me so I know exactly how ya feel.

The late world series games I associate with the 89 world series I didn't have a concept of West coast time. My dad let me stay up and watch 4 or5 innings, but that was it. I remember getting ready to watch the game when the earthquake hit.this predates 24 hour news cycles, but my dad let me stay up and watch the coverage of the aftermath. Afternoon world series games should comeback. I know they never will.

I loved watching the cubs on WGN in the 80s and 90s. Some of my very earliest memories are watching the cubs and eating Popsicles I'd get from the ice cream truck. Harry Carey and ate Estonia were my favorites.

Would like a WS day game but only on a Sat or Sun, preferably Saturday. WS game could be at 3 or 1 and NFL push most of their games to the early or late window to not compete, although they never would since the nfl is a bunch of greedy bastards. This is why Sat makes more sense, yes you are competing with college fball, but the marquee college games are mostly at night, where the nfl only has 1 primetime game.

Also MLB does itse6no favors having playoff games fully completed while the majority of the country is at work. I get during the LDS you have 2 days of 4 games potentially and LCS 2 days of 2 games potentially. It'd be ok to have them overlap. If 4 games have a 5, 6, 7 and 8 start (central time) if 2 a 5 and 8 start. Games at 11 or 12 or 1 or 2 during the work wk is asinine. Was po'd cubs cards had mid afternoon weekday gms in last yrs playoffs. The Cubs are easily the biggest draw and will hopefully get primetime billing this yr.

Of all fanbases, this fucking jackwagon should know better than to go do something stupid like this. What with the talk of 108 years and curses and blah, blah, blah. (Not that I believe in curses, but still... don't yank the lion's tail!)
Fucker better be prepared to enter witness protection if they don't win.

funny so many of us have the same memories..... kids today get left out with the WS starting at 930 EST

Come home from school, watch the Cubs. When I was a kid every loss would eat me up, couldn't rest easy until the next game.
I take it a bit easier now that I've grown up
The worst of times..they don't phase me,
even if I look and act really crazy.
