So is everyone calmed down for the time being? It seemed like a lot of people were going ape shit crazy because a team of half minor leaguers (and even worse Chris Coughlan) lost a few to the Brewers.

    Everyone okay right now?

Wild card currently in a 3 team tie. Hoe about they finish the season that way. Then the teams would have to use their top 2 or 3 starters just to make it to the Cubs in the NLDS.

I have been a fan long enough that I don't get too high or low anymore. sad but true

That'd be best case scenario for Cubs plus a possible 5 games in 6 days in 5 different cities for the WC winner.

  • I'm trying to enjoy the ride, I really am, but my goodness if they come up short of a title.

It won't take away from a great year, but we will have to hear all next year. Yep, nice team, but wait til October. Or god forbid they get off to a slow start.

I just want to fast forward a couple weeks and get this show on the road.

  • I am refusing to let the ghosts of the past haunt me this season. The past couple Christmases, I have watched the "5 Outs" documentary (on Combat Sports Net I think). It's obviously about the 2003 Cubs. I remember that time SO vividly. Impossibly vivid. Whenever I watch that program, it quite literally brings tears to my eyes and I feel like such a chump. I think of how awesome it felt up until Alex Gonzalez booted that double play 8th inning ending double play ball. Then the god awful feelings there after. However, everything leading up to that play was the best time of my life as a Cubs fan. Then the feeling of eternal Cubs fan doom. That was 13 years ago my friends. That's how rare these opportunities can be. Sure, for some teams, playoff runs are more frequent and others are more rare (I said playoff runs, not championship droughts) but the thing is, we never know.
I've waited 13 years to surpass the excitement and joy I felt in 2003 or any of the seasons before that. I have watched SOOOO many games for the sheer joy it brings me to watch the Chicago Cubs play baseball. I'm not going to at this point say the Cubs are 2016 WS Champions. But I will say: fuck 2003, fuck 84, fuck 69, fuck 45 and fuck the naysayers. I don't give a fuck about curses and goats and black cats (except my pet black cat). I will not let the stupid shit of years past hamper a possible World Series run. I'm not going to walk on eggshells throughout the playoffs. I believe I would be completely dissatisfied if the Cubs do go all the way and I spent the whole time worried about the old shit.

Keep sucking Hammel. Just assuring yourself no spot on the playoff roster.

Yep. He definitely won't be starting. I honestly don't know if I even want him in the playoff bullpen.

He shouldn't even make the playoff roster. After today he has 1 more start, then his Cubs career is over!

Someone here has got to explain the David Ross circle jerk. It makes little to no sense
  • I'm more worried about Grimm. He sucks right now in any pressure situation.....He just doesn't excel. That said, anyone with issues of this team not winning it this year, please do some research on the red wings circa early 90s. This is before the cups. 3-4 years of easily being the best team in the league, best prospects, best record. But as I thought then, as a fan, it wasn't a matter of IF they would win a cup....... It was WHEN. Sometimes talent doesn't always win out in a given season. But it always does over time. This team feels a hell of a lot like the Wings did when they got the Russians. This is a team of destiny. I'm going there... And haven't been able to until just now...we will see a WS championship in our lifetimes. ITS GONNA HAPPEN BABY!

The guy is retiring. The Cubs were giving him a nice sendoff in his final regular season home game. He's always been thought of as a great teammate, and a better person.....and he hit a dinger in his last official AB. I don't think it really goes any deeper than that.

Love Ross.......he is like an cheesy uncle to most of the players... but an excellent vet to have on the roster. Wrigley is just soaking in the love and I am glad fans and team alike are enjoying it....

but Hammel on the other hand :anguished:

  • Joe Madden told him when he came out he had never done this before and then pulled him so he could get one more ovation, pretty cool. When I saw he hit a home run, I'm like are you kidding me. (Not to stray off topic) Of course that was until a few hours later when Dodgers hit a walk off to win the division on Vin's last game. Baseball can be so darn beautiful at times.

Yeah, the Ross "send off" and ovation was really cool! It looked like Lester had the look of "Why is he coming out here?" at first....hahahaha!

Ha I guess that I just don't get the fact the Cubs gave a back up catcher who has played less than a full seasons worth of games for the team a Hero's send off. At first I thought it was cool then I got kinda confused when it kept happening. Haha.

And half serious, just found it kinda random.

  • I really hope Ross sticks around (or at the very least comes back in a couple years) in some sort of coaching capacity.

When the Dodgers players all came out and waved to Vin, that was one of the best baseball moments I've ever witnessed.
