Yeah worst case scenario happened for the Cubs...getting the Giants
Going to be a hell of a series that as a fan of a team that's not in it, this series will keep me glued

Rob, know that I'm only ever giving you shit in good fun! After all, we do agree on a lot of other sports things (BYU, Bonds, & designated hitters, for example).
Giants or Mets, it doesn't matter. There are +'s & -'s to both. Just as there are to the Cubs. It's the playoffs. You don't get that far by being mediocre, especially after 162 games! Once the postseason starts, the regular season means nothing. Everyone gives their all - some get hot, some get cold (historically our case).
I like the Giants, always have. Even in 89 when Will the Thrill kicked our asses. But you've had your share... we just want our turn! We just want ONE!
    Here's to a good series!

I'm already sick of hearing about "fearing the Giants rotation" when the Cubs had the best rotation in baseball wire-to-wire.

Exactly. These guys are professional pitchers. They're all good, and some are on a slightly different level.

However, if we lose to Samadzija, I might piss all over myself.

    good morning, cubs fans :coffee:

a little preemptive strike here...first of all, I hope I'm not quite the asshole many of you imagine me to be...lolobugg may be able to vouch for that (or not). I don't actually "hate" the cubs...at least not most of them.

I truly despise lackey (a piece of human garbage; I'd like to punch him in his ugly face).

arrieta has the look of an asshole but he's probably a fine guy. I have a bit of a dislike hangover for heyward but only because he's an ex-Brave (they had the Giants' number for years) and there was some support for him over Posey for ROY in 2010 (ridiculous).

other than those guys (and really only lackey), the cubs seem to be a fine group of talented players. I'm sure I will get irritated by the media's continued fawning over them and your "genius" manager, tho. but, no doubt, theo and maddon, have a good thing going. the cubbies should be good for a long while.

I'll try to tone down my rhetoric (no promises) but it's really just meant to bust your balls. after the Giants knocked out the Phillies in '10, a philly guy jumped on his computer and went nuclear in all caps, big, bold font, with "fuck" being every other word. but, you know what? we laugh about it now.

after seeing matz, de grom and harvey sitting on the bench, I'm pretty sure you guys did not want to see the Giants and their healthy rotation. all four have been pitching well as of late. our bullpen and hitting generally suck, tho. we'll see what happens. I'm off now....need to go pick up an XL bottle of Tums.

I can vouch for Rob........... he's an awesome dude!
we go back and forth about our sports teams all the time.
(WE) Cubs fan are a tough bunch, Wobbie. no need to apologize.

Here's the Vegas odds for the series.

San Francisco (+240) vs. Chicago (-280)

That tells me one of possibly two things. They expect heavy action on the Cubs and think they'll lose....or......they don't give the giants much of a chance and are begging for the action. I mean, +240 on the giants? Really? That's crazy. Even crazier when considering the line for everyone else....

    ALDS
    Toronto (EVEN) vs. Texas (-120)
    Cleveland (+130) vs. Boston (-150)

    NLDS
Washington (+145) vs. Los Angeles (-165)

there are a zillion ways to look at pitching and none are probably an accurate predictor of anything, since they measure what has happened and not what will happen. both teams have some pitching (mets would have been syndergaard, colon and pray for rain). one thing I do know is our four have been excellent lately (except for one Moore disaster) and, other than smardzija (whose cub history I don't know), have all pitched some stellar playoff games. the giants have won before, with less.

another guy I don't like is chapman. someone is going to give him too much money and too many years over the winter. I hope it's not the giants.

I also noticed no one defended lackey. I fucking hate that guy

I will say this about Samardzija's Cubs history: good fucking riddance. I'm happy to have Addison Russell & Aroldis Chapman in his place. (Samardzija traded to the A's for Russell & Billy McKinney, who was traded to the Yankees for Chapman).
Was never a big fan of Lackey, either. Always thought he was kind of a dickhead, but he's our dickhead this year so I tolerate him. Same with Chapman.
  • Well..
    My fellow Cub fans....
    This should be REAL INTERESTING...

Lester/Cueto is a HELL of a matchup in game 1.

On the topic of pitching rotations, you are correct. Stats only show what has happened and are not necessarily a predictor of what will happen. But all I've heard so far is how afraid the Cubs should be of the Giants staff. "This is the worst case scenario for the Cubs. The Cubs don't want to face the Giants staff. Look out Cubs. The Cubs are in for certain doom. The Cubs were hoping for the Mets." Etc, etc. Not a damn word being said about the Cubs staff. Like we're not getting any credit. Kyle Hendricks and Jon Lester were NL Pitchers of the Month for August & September, respectively. I'm not implying a series prediction, just making an observation. I'm pretty damn confident in our guys and there's absolutely no reason anyone shouldn't be!

Giants had to sweep LA to get to the Wild Card?
Then beat the Mets in a 1 game elimination...

Yeah Cub fans, this could get interesting.

And by the way, the Giants have not lost an elimination game in how many years?
I am pretty sure I heard 9-0 in elimination games since 2010? I think that is the stat I heard.

is this the same guy who compared these cubs to the '29 Yankees

I think the reason the cubs' rotation isn't being talked about is because the cubs were looking at an "either or" situation. the winner of the WC game was getting the cubs, period. your rotation is good....even if you don't have a mythical dude like Bum

I'm sure the cubs fans know the KWAY-To chant....I'm thinking Johnny can handle it now.

Bochy has won 11 straight series, to tie Joe Torre's record. for my money, Bochy is way better than Torre because he's not fielding an entire team of all-stars.

Remember when he said he wanted ace money and that aces get 7 yr deals? Well here is your "big boy" game to prove it. Perform and if not the Cubs, someone will back up the truck for you after your deals up next yr. Pitch poorly and I never wanna hear about an "ace" deal again.

Thay being said, unless we leave Chi up 2 0, I'm gonna be damn nervous.

so Cubs fans, more excited or more nervous at this point? my advice as a Phillies fan is enjoy every fucking moment though because it's awesome when your team is in the playoffs and has a legitimate chance.

i say Cubs in 4 this series.

Absolutely excited! Win or lose, I just want to see the Cubs play good baseball and not completely shit the bed like last year and '08.
