Gun laws don't stop crazy sorry, I know many here think that is the answer.
Gun laws only keep responsible gun owners without
their rights intact.
All gun opponents want to do is take away guns from the law abiding.
Each time I ask what would you do to solve the problem the answer is removing rights to own guns.
Of course gun laws dont stop crazy..nobody has said that. Many of us just think things arent working very well as is, and perhaps we can reduce the carnage if some weapons were simply not so easily accessible. Isnt it worth a try? A tiny attempt to save people?
Save people? if we really care about that we would address the cause of these shootings. Why are people shooting?
Mental illness in all forms are hurting our society in so many ways.
The homeless left to the streets, many mentally ill, untreated.
The children left behind from young on, undiagnosed.
Those children that turn to crime because of this, turn to drugs.
The domestic violence founded in the root of mental illness.
I could go on and on.
Violence and crime will not go away until we address proper and easily available treatment for all.
Crazy is not because there are guns, crazy just uses guns, irresponsibly
the sane do too ... responsibly.
Let's really fix the problem and get help for the mentally ill.
RIP...Arnold Horshack....Oh Oh me, how are we in this country are going to address treatment for the sane or mentally ill when WE in this country can't even get BASIC health care just to get even a simple check up?

you speak as if no sane person has ever shot someone say out of anger/love/heat of the moment....
in USA I might shoot the guy who i find in bed with my wife... in Scotland, as much as I wanted to, I couldnt because we have good gun laws.
sane people shoot other people and to deny that you may as well be an ostrich.
anyway... I'm still awaiting the anti-gun lobby coming to me to use my snappy punchline for their poster campaigns.

The non "crazy" also use guns irresponsibly; in much higher numbers than the "crazy" in fact. The "crazy" are much more likely to be victims of crime than perpetrators. People living with mental illness are a vulnerable population and deserve more comprehensive treatment than what is currently available (including risk assessments), as well as to be treated with dignity and not to be stigmatized. The stigma is an obstacle to them obtaining proper diagnosis and treatment. Let's not add to that problem.

You are a funny person, actually here you might be considered temporarily insane

then those with a few screws loose all the way to the mentally incompetent.

Is that still by firearm? just bought illegally?

I'd like a matching cape as well to top off the superhero costume. I plan to make rounds to local movie theatres to protect the public (but I plan to flee like a little girl if the shit hits the fan

I think you and redrock would make a great team.
Maybe this is the answer...all guns produced shall now be pink. Who is gonna cap someone over a dime bag with a pink gun?

But let's for sure address it
like the situation of our shooter that this thread was started from.
Address the fact he was delusional and certainly can not be held accountable
and fried because he is mentally incompetent.
Address the fact that you yourself said depression can also lead to shootings like this,
not exclusively thought disorders.
That mental illness has a link to both violence and crime.
Our society could honor the rights of people by providing help for them
while avoiding removing the rights of others.
This by addressing why people are shooting.

I like purple... can I be purple (so people don't get us mixed up? No guns needed - I'll stick to the killer heels.

It's stopping the why not the how.
Being mentally incompetent and mentally ill are 2 very different things. Jared Loughner is mentally ill; he was deemed mentally competent.
We do not know if the Aurora shooter was delusional (particularly at the time of the shooting, because there is a gag order and the psychiatrist cannot release any information. We do not know this for sure. I did not say that depression leads to shootings like this; I said it may be the only form of mental illness a shooter has (not necessarily psychosis or an illness that results in a break with reality).
Again, those that are mentally ill are much more likely to be a victim of crime, not a perpetrator. Those living with mental illness absolutely need to have better access to care and sometimes protections from themselves and others (although the need for that protection is often only fleeting).

Fighting for the rights of the next James Holmes and such.
I would think that someone who boasts something such as you did would be front and center to the 'so badly needed it's pathetic' gun legislation movement. What has been presented preserves a way of life for the leigitimate gun owners and removes the ridiculously easy process for an inappropriate person to obtain a gun that is also inappropriate.
You are fighting for the rights of people who should not be owning guns or for people who want guns that should not be owned. Why not consider fighting for the rights of those who are going to bleed out at the hands of some asshole in the next few days or so?
Don't get me wrong, I think you have a big heart... I just think your intentions are misplaced. The few others that attempted to place an argument for the right to bear arms (with goofy analogies and forceful language like, 'it's my right') left 30 pages ago. You cannot win this debate on this forum; however... don't worry... ultimately you will win: 'From my cold, dead hands' is a threat that no politician wants to challenge. Which person wants to step into the crosshairs upon trying to implement sweeping gun reform changes?
One other thing... your 'let them eat cake' answer to the mental health problem is a little more complex than that don't you think? I'm repeating myself from... oh, page 30 or so where you never answered... but where exactly is the billions of dollars going to come from to handle the costs associated with your 'walk in mental health clinic accessible to all'? You understand that there would have to be tons of facilities and highly paid personnel to handle all the responsibilities attached to such an endeavour right? I think something is needed, but how about something more attainable?
