Ahhh thanks guys, but anyone with this many shoes has to be a little vain ;) Sometimes when people feel hurt they want to hurt back, so if that's the worst thing that's said about me today, I'm still having a pretty good day. Just for the sake of clarity, since the question was asked, vanity is not the same as narcissism, however. Narcissism really has more to do with personalizing things and being easily injured. Most of us possess both qualities to a certain extent, and they're perfectly healthy...in small doses.

Now on to the guns! Have we resolved this issue yet?

 Unfortunately I think we'll have this issue to keep us busy for a long, long time. Just thinking about the question redrock posed in her thread about crime boggles my mind. So many factors involved, different forces at play with different types of crime...it makes me a little world weary.

Did you you see the laws in Colorado where we just had our last mass shooting that was posted earlier....do you think the CO laws are strict enough? Do you own a gun? From what I've read i don't think so yet you crusade on and on about how guns protect yet you yourself appear to not own one....walking the fence again. Practice what you preach if you don't own a gun.

    Peace

Do you think that was condescending towards me, presumptuous and insulting?
if I practiced what some preach do you think I should follow up with humiliation
    then?
I didn't put you down Pandora. I made an objective comment based on my observations about the dynamics on this thread. I'm sorry if you find those observations hurtful, but if you identify with them it might be helpful to explore that further. If you do t identify with them, dismiss them as not pertinent to you. This thread is filled with posts about my knowledge on the topic and my ability to resist responding to condescending comments.

    Back on topic...

I heard this about a million times today on news radio...

Here in Georgia, 5 children under the age of six and their Mothers were terrorized in a home invasion
last evening by masked gunman i.e. criminals with rifles and handguns
who broke in a locked door and no they did not knock first.

In front of the tiny ones the criminals pistol whipped and roughed up the women
sending the children into terrified screams.
All the women frightened for their lives and that of their children,
as one can imagine if they try.

The criminals demanded money from the helpless victims...

thankfully the homeowner came out from another room
brandishing a gun after calling but not waiting on police
the gun and the homeowner who meant business caused
the bad guys to flee. I have not heard if they were apprehended
or if they are free to terrorize some more.

Now for those who would be willing to wait for the police,
thinking that no one need protect themselves, the tiny children or mothers...

know that the average Georgia police response time is about eleven minutes...
which is not all that different from other areas.

    Narcissistic

    Symptoms of this disorder include:

Reacting to criticism with anger, shame, or humiliation... is that you know who? ;)

Taking advantage of others to reach their own goals ... I have never had goals

Exaggerating their own importance, achievements, and talents ... no I have few of all those things
sounds like someone I know though ;)

Imagining unrealistic fantasies of success, beauty, power, intelligence, or romance ...
I only imagine Eddie ;) thats only a joke!

Requiring constant attention and positive reinforcement from others ... must not ...I don't get that much

Becoming jealous easily ... JB doesn't test that or I might be ;)

Lacking empathy and disregarding the feelings of others ... think not but this fits some here

Being obsessed with oneself ... I'm obsessed with most but not myself

Pursuing mainly selfish goals ... no never selfish but maybe a martyr ;)

Trouble keeping healthy relationships ...... married 32 years :D Its healthy and fun!

Becoming easily hurt and rejected ... yes wear my heart on my sleeve

Setting goals that are unrealistic ... not for me but maybe for others

Wanting "the best" of everything... for everyone I love

Appearing unemotional ....:lol::lol: and I was called Histrionic... hmmmm

Now I look at that list, I see you are right that doesn't fit me at all except that I recognize when I am being humiliated
so were you so spot on to say it was not me? yes you were!

    Quite a therapist indeed

Hey maybe others want to take the test so we can find out who that culprit is
    you eluded to before ;)

But the real question remains why call out another poster at all about this
on a public forum? Who does this?
Then continue to mock. What kind of personality does this? I'll have to look and see
cause we got a few of them here :fp:

and they call this a debate forum all in a days work

no not done about more gun laws though nor working towards respecting the second amendment

a right that will be very much needed in the years to come

    Hey... look... a Kardashian!
You are right. That's exactly what happens...time and again. We saw a lot of changes come about after the VA Tech shootings with regard to campus safety. Notification systems were put in place, emergency operation teams frequently have active shooter drills, behavioral intervention/threat assessment teams were developed to try to identify potentially problematic behaviors. All of that and situations like the Colorado shooting still can't be prevented. As I've said, I'm really interested to know more about what the college knew and how they intervened, so that our team can learn from it, but there may be nothing more that they could actually have done. We'll talk about all of those things and make changes there, but ultimately nothing will be done with access to guns. Frustrating.

With each incidence it is not about taking away personal rights but learning and adapting.
Good things have come out of these horrific events and changes too.
Makes me wonder what is ahead.

The Colorado shooting is bringing awareness to the
holes in laws we do have and one's not being enforced properly.
More aware of mental illness and to look and act on signs before violence.

People will prepare themselves like the Run Hide Fight video, train themselves with a plan
for public places and call upon bravery when needed to save lives.
Others will arm themselves and do so responsibly,
with the intent to stop a madman in the future.

I am not frustrated, no more than by the many other ugly things in this world.
It is a process, one to prepare and hopefully to save us all.

That's always our solution... guns at schools... metal detectors at schools.
We should just be searched for guns where ever we go... movies, church, Chik-A-Fil... anyplace a crazy fuck with limitless access to legally obtain weapons and ammo might show up when his fear and paranoia switches flip and he decides to do something about us scumbags who don't fit in his expectations of who we should be and what we should be doing.
America is just a place where random gun violence will occur... we just have to accept mass murder as one of our national character traits. We need to get off of our high horses and quit gasping and petending we are shocked that shit like this happens... as we sit on our asses and don't do a thing to fix it.
To quote a great American: "I hope in the future Americans are thought of as a warlike, vicious people, because I bet a lot of high schools would pick 'Americans' as their mascot."

People are searched for guns because it is not legal to have them in public places
without a permit and some not at all...
well criminals do, they have them wherever cause they don't follow the laws
another very good reason to search.

Guns aren't going away but safety for guns can be expanded
and that is exactly what some are complaining about ... safety measures

I agree with the majority of the comments. That guy is a tool. When someone in public asks me a question - especially a question like "Have you been to the fair yet?", I answer them! This guy thinks he needs a gun to protect himself from... being talked to. Threatened my ass. It was probably two drunk guys asking them about the Calgary Stampede! Plus, the thinks he should be able to go to foreign countries and carry a concealed weapon? Are you kidding me?
I don't condone harassment of the guy though, or any anti-American sentiment just because of this one dude. But the specific story is kind of fucked up! ... It's also kind of fucked that it's news... But certainly on topic for this thread, so here you go! :)

Pandora you have repeated enforce the laws that we currently have. Ok fine, I just last week looked up buying a 22 caliber smallbore rifle for target shooting at my local gun club. I'm doing so just to see if can shoot as well as I once did back 30 years on my school's rifleteam. All I needed was my credit or debit card...no background check, no waiting period, no registration etc and it'll be at my door in 6 days.

I have 2 teens both 16 and they both have a debit cards they could make the very same order. Now if you had your 16 year old son or grandson he could also make the same order would you want him to have the same capability to order this rifle? I hope to order this from here in Florida...there's absolutely NOTHING, NOTHING to ENFORCE.

What would you do with your son possibly wanting to make this rifle order?

    Peace

Pandora are you ducking my question? Since you've taking a great stance that our gun laws are sufficient and we can just enforce them then please answer this question i asked. Thank you.

It's also pretty scary that a cop could be that twitchy!

It wasn't a confrontation. The idiot kept walking and the guys trying to talk to them didn't pursue them. what a douche bag. I just mentioned this to a coworker, and he knew about this story and he said it's thought that these guys were actually Stampede promoters and were walking around the city trying the give out free admission tickets! Ahh! That's what I was wondering... did the guy have to fight off these two guys who were going to rape his wife... did they demand that he turn over his wallet? What? The story just kind of ended.
Wow. I mean, I've asked for directions from people, before... you know how you get that really rude, 'No. Go away.' from time to time? I wonder if they wished they'd had their gun with them?

Seriously! And if someone who is trained is that twitchy, what's a general member of the public going to be like?

I suppose that's what all of that training and preparedness is about... you know, so you don't end up being a stupid victim. Just be prepared and whenever someone approaches you, consider them as evil and wanting to kill you, reach in your handbag and cock the hammer of the .38 revolver you carry everywhere and point it in their direction.
Then, tell them, "No! I don't want to buy a box of cookies from you! Go Away!".

It's scary because there's a whole lot of people who imagine danger when it's not even there.

Well we haven't been able to come up with a solution for mass shootings and gun control, but it appears we have solved the overpopulation issue

The solution America has chosen is the one where fear and paranoia living together in peace and harmony with death by semi-automatic gunfire.

Come on... there is some classic stuff in here. Old ladies choking on pretzels, Rambo coming to our rescue and the stupidity of the victims getting shot in a massacre because they weren't armed in preparation of being caught in a massacre... You can't this kind of entertainment on cable T.V.
