Oh really? You've fallen back on 'illegal = bad" in every post in this thread.
Illegal is bad. If it's against the law at the given time it's a no no. If someone wants to break the law...that's their choice...but there may be consequences. Asking people their fucking citizenship is not infringing on someone's rights. Please get off of your soapbox becasue it case you didn't realize it's already happening. You don't like it...fine/...go change it then. Until then, I suggest you don't visit too close to the borders.

My intention isn't to get into a discussion on civil disobedience with you. I think it would be another dead-end conversation, and it isn't what this thread is about anyway. There is no civil disobedience displayed in the OP.
Asking about citizenship isn't infringing on anyone's rights, no. Insisting on an answer, under threat of detention, is....unless there is a law im unaware of. Should I be able to do what I want, within the law, or not?
Or is this nazi Germany?
Where I live, DUI checkpoint s are the ONLY thing keeping thousands and thousands of drunk people from driving. I think it's ludicrous to be against them. I also think it is rather ludicrous to bitch about being asked if you are a citizen as though it is a violation of your freedom. Gimme a break. A question being asked you or having to stop your car briefly is not a violation of any rights. Makes you all sound like a bunch if spoiled brats(sorry).
sorry we're acting like brats, grandma...
.
I wonder, ONLY way, huh...?
I guess no DUI arrests were made prior to roadblocks...
What? That doesn't make sense. I said roadblocks are the oy thing keeping tons of people from runk driving. Not that they're the only way to keep people from doing it (but I am pretty sure it's the best deterrent by far) .... I see. Your method of debate is to twist what people say to suit you. I don't roll like that.
And why are you calling me grandma??
if the shoe fits...
I think you're being a bit dramatic...ONLY thing keep tons of people from runk driving...really...ONLY...?? tons...what does that even mean...?

I'm not about the drama...that's how I roll....
I'm not being dramatic at all. In Vancouver, anyway, the majority of people who drink would drive while over the legal limit if they weren't afraid of hitting a road check. I don't know about elsewhere, but I'm talking thousands and thousands of people. People drinka lot here, and the public transit system is really stupid and shuts down for the night way too early, and everyone commutes and wouldn't pay for such long cab rides. I live in a culture where driving drunk is a very tough habit for people to break, and where people drink a lot.
Still don't know why you called me grandma.
Speaking of being overly dramatic, did you check out the video from the first post in this thread? You should watch it. The guy in it is a total spaz!
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy. ~ Desiderata
Bottom line is the guy in the video is an asshole. He should just answer the question and move on with his "busy" life.
just because you can't ********* doesn't **** the point is wrong...
Another great post. :?
Oh well. Hoping they start with more roadblocks actually. If you don't do anything wrong, no one has anything to worry about.
Saying you are ok with stop and frisk laws is about all I need to know. there will be no middle ground here.
I think there should be more roadblocks everywhere too. I think they should start monitoring all phone calls and emails too...I mean if you aren't doing anything wrong, or talking about doing anything wrong you don't have anything to worry about. Maybe they can even come up with some pre-cogs to catch criminals when they THINK about committing a crime...oh the possibilities...I think there should be two justice systems...one for people who understand the bill of rights and one for those who think it doesn't mean shit because it was written 200+ years ago...They would be VASTLY different.
rights are a tricky thing...seems like they are only convenient to a person when it is their rights being violated, and yes, unlawful search and seizure violates the 4th, whether it is allowed by the SC or not... I don't think you would like to live in a world that you describe. If you do want to, they exist, you should find one...China comes to mind...

Well there are already roadblocks and your calls and emails are monitored. Anything else?

You forgot that you're being videotaped at every single damned intersection too.
You forgot that you're being videotaped at every single damned intersection too.
They only put those cameras up when they are hunting taxpayers. :geek:
Good one guys. Forgot about that. Some people really have a distortion in this country about their freedoms and what they'll "fight" for. I won't answer your question sir about my citizenship but here let me answer my cell phone...send some texts....send some emails...walk past all of these public cameras....do some banking at the ATM...use my credit card at the grocery store....walk past some more secutiry cameras...etc.

You really just don't get it do you?
Personally I also think that red light cameras or speed cameras (used by some cities) should be eliminated. Sure, I'm aware that people CAN track me when I use my cards, etc. What does that have to do with stopping me and "making me" answer some questions?

Yes I get it. People want to bitch just for the sake of bitching. These roadblocks happen in high drug and illegal immigrant corridors. They are there for a reason. Not to take away people's rights. You don't want to go through them, then avoid them. Holy fuck. SOme Americans are just so pricky with little shit like this it's frustrating. Sometimes a concession needs to be made by a few for the benefit of the country. I don't think answering a fucking question is so hard. :fp:

yeah, I think once a week people should have to go to jail and if they cannot prove they haven't done anything wrong that week they should be placed into custody until they can prove their innocence for the week...enough with innocent until proven guilty...fuck that...we should all have to prove our innocence at all times.
I realize you are very happy that there are road blocks...congratulations...

Using my cell phone - my choice to enter into a contract with a private business
Using my credit card - my choice to enter into a contract with a private business
Sending emails - my choice to enter into a contract with a private business
Being hassled by federal/state police simply walking on the street or driving my car = unacceptable level of police infringement on my life if one were to live in a country that gave a shit about the 4th amendment.
I realize that the NSA operates with impunity, doesn't mean that I am happy about it. Doesn't mean that I haven't done what I can do to fight things like the patriot act and the rest of it...I am not going to unplug from society. Again, if it's just answering a question than what service does it provide at all??????
I've looked a bit but only found the 2 extremes on this issue as to cost and benefits. Anyone have a decent link to show the cost/benefit of these types of activities?
I don't think answering a fucking question is so hard. :fp:
Awesome, then you shouldn't have a problem answering these questions..... If not, will you kindly pull over to station number 2 and wait for the officer there?
You are just a little selective when it comes to your analogies. You're right, it's different because one was a suggestion, one is enforced by a person with the abililty to seriously fuck up your life. If anything, the context makes your statement even more hypocritical. Should you be able to do what you want within the law or not? ..
Asking about citizenship isn't infringing on anyone's rights, no. Insisting on an answer, under threat of detention, is....unless there is a law im unaware of. Should I be able to do what I want, within the law, or not?

It's called a deterrent. Keep the illegals of the major highways coming north...flush them into the desert where we have the proper technolgy coupled with the brutal conditions to flush them out. Try watching Border Wars on NatGeo sometime. You'd be blown away.
where do you draw the line in terms of police contact with your life without probable cause?
This one always cracks me up. Probable cause?? I guess showing proof of your citizenship in high crime corridors by illegals isn't probable cause.
"Sir, you are driving in an area where alot of illegal drugs, guns, and immigrants travel...what is your citizenship"?
"US"
"thank you and have a good day".
That's so hard and such an infringemnt. :fp:  Guess they should wait until that van transporting 7 illegals, 30 guns, and a pound of coke to have a turn siganl burn out before they have probable cause.

They are looking for tells. In the video of this guy, the tell was that he was just an aggravated citizen. That is why they just let him rant and then drive off ... twice. No one doing anything illegal would have the guts to act like.
As for whether it is cost beneficial ... well, it's a government agency, so I'm going to have to say hell no. Especially since it isn't random.

So illegal immigration is slowing....but if you put enough resources into this, you might get lucky and see the number of deaths in the desert rise.
